InterContinental Develops Tallest Hotel
Towering more than 1,400 feet above Nanjing, China, the InterContinental Nanjing is poised to become the world's tallest hotel at its 2009 completion.
The 66-story, 450-room luxury hotel is further reinforcing InterContinental Hotels Group's position in China. In February alone, the company inked management contracts for a total of 10 hotels there. Four of the hotels were signed with Shanghai Greenland Group and will be located in Nanjing, Xi'an and Shanghai, including InterContinental Nanjing. The other six were signed with Chengdu International Exhibition & Convention Group and will be located in Sichuan. The hotels will include InterContinental brands Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express, and will add 6,000 rooms to the hotel group's China portfolio of 17,439 rooms in 51 hotels, which includes the Crowne Plaza brand. The company expects the portfolio to grow to 125 by 2008.
Several other United States-based companies have also been active in the China hotel market: Starwood Hotels & Resorts recently signed for a Sheraton in Guangzhou and a Westin in Beijing, and Hilton Hotel Corp. is planning hotels in Macau.
Steven Liu, director of research and advisory services for Cushman & Wakefield Asia Pacific Inc., said that there will be many factors positively affecting the hotel industry in China this year, including a robust demand for offices, China's World Trade Organization commitments, the approval for more direct flights between China and other countries and an increase of exhibitions and conferences in the country.
But one of the largest factors that will affect the hotel industry in the long run is China increasing its road infrastructure from its existing 1.2 million miles to 2 million miles by 2020. The country also has 19,000 miles of highways, with an annual growth of 20 percent over the past 10 years, Liu said. "Holiday Inn grew by the freeway system in America," noted Andrew Cosslett, InterContinental's CEO. The company foresees a similar future in China.

People's Tower (Shanghai World Abundant Culture Tower/??????? )
A new supertall in Shanghai has been proposed in the World Expo 2010 architectural competition for Plot Z3-2. The building, designed by Frederic Schwartz Architect will be 588m tall with 140 floors. It will be a mixed used tower and will be completed in 2010. The proposal won a international competition in Dubai in 2004, and is one of Shanghai world abundant tower planns.

tanda tanda yang sama juge dilihat berlaku semenjak perlumbaan membina bangunan tinggi era 1900 dahulu, by that time, teknologi skylines mule maju dgn pesatnye, then today prosesnya agak pantas dan ketinggian yang dicapai semakin hebat, towards the lower stratosphere perhaps, hehe, well thats great actually, nothing to be afraid of anyway, bukan nak bongkak tapi KIAMAT tu ketentuan yang ESA, DIA tahu bile kemusnahan tu jadi, macam la kalau kite stop building the megatowers boleh stop masa KIAMAT untuk sampai? or is it like that ka? me dunno la plak, setahu saye mende tu bley jadi anytime, even kejap lagi pun boleh, as for now, we r settle down bebeh, so let us built the largest and the tallest man made structure on this earth! its power of architecture and engineering! let us built to the limit!
