Synopsis
Jang Bo-go (Choi Soo Jong) was a peasant from Shilla (a Korean dynasty that lasted from 57 B.C. until 935 A.D.) He goes to Tang (a Chinese dynasty) to train his martial arts skills. There, he sees his people being kidnapped and killed by Tang pirates. He comes back to Shilla and asks the king permission to clean out the Tang pirates. Jang Bo-go seizes control of the seas and returns peace to his people again. Pirates fled at the name of Jang Bo-go, giving him the name 慔ae Shin? meaning 慡ea God? During this time, Shilla抯 royal house was in tumult because kings were being kicked out after only a few years of ruling. One royal family member comes to Jang Bo-go for aid to kick out the current king. He takes the offer and kicks out the king and enthrones the royal family member. In return, he was promised that his daughter would be married to the new king抯 son. However, the king dies after several months and the prince tries to keep his promise to Jang Bo-go. But, due to opposition by the royal officials that the daughter of a peasant cannot be queen, the promise was broken. Furious, Jang Bo-go starts a rebellion, but is killed by an assassin sent out by the king. He and his family name were condemned forever.

Choi Soo-jong
Jang Bo-go lost both parents when he was young. He was born as a slave. Thanks to his farther who worked as a carpenter slave of the police office, he knows very well about the sea and has the knack of building ships. Faced with challenges, he becomes calmer and bolder. Such character has helped him to rise from gladiator to a security guard, military head of Muryong-gun and then ambassador of Cheong-Hae-Jin.

Madam Jami is highest class Gingol novel. She is also beautiful and smart. She is also good at making strategies to win what she wants and sometimes she pursues for her lust regardless of the means. She is longing for wealth and power. She decides to take care of Jeong-hwa (Soo-ae), who lost her father to pirates. But she tries to use Jeong-hwa to fulfill her ambition.Madam Jami accepts Jang Bo-go as her private solder after Jang escaped his salve position after winning a fight at Bangmajang, but plans to put him at trouble when Jang gets help from Seol-pyeong (Park Yeong-gyu), who is a rival to her.

Song Il Gook
Yeum Moon. When young, he was raised by pirates. He lives a rough life. Yeomjang is capable of using short knives in a remarkable skill. He is a charismatic figure. But he has one-side love toward Jeong-hwa (Soo-ae), who lives only Jang Bo-go. In the end, he betrays Jang Bo-go and kills him.
