The main cast has now been revealed for the upcoming manga-to-drama adaptation "Tomehane! Suzuri Koukou Shodoubu." The show was earlier discovered via an advertisement for extras, but at the time it had not yet been officially announced.

The drama's lead actress will be 17-year-old Aki Asakura, who made her showbiz debut in 2007. She has appeared in dramas such as "Puzzle" and "God Hand Teru," as well as films like "Kanki no Uta," but this will be her first starring role.

The drama will focus on the character of Yuki Mochizuki (Asakura), unlike the manga. Yuki is the nation's top judo athlete at the high school level, but she somehow ends up as part of her school's calligraphy club. Asakura began training in both judo and calligraphy back in March to prepare for the role. Her supporting cast includes Sosuke Ikematsu (18) and Hideki Takahashi (65).

Kitamura plays the role of Takashi Arikawa, an elite financial bureaucrat who is also the son of the head of one of Japan's largest medical corporations. With his intelligence, looks, and wealth, he has been destined for power in the political arena. Although the show starts out in the present day, it also looks far back into the past of Arikawa and his family.

Masaru Nagai (31) will once again be playing the title character of "Salaryman Kintaro." TV Asahi has announced a second season for its drama series, which aired in 2008.

The original "Salaryman Kintaro" manga was previously adapted as a popular drama by TBS, running for four seasons between 1999 and 2004 with Katsunori Takahashi as the star. Last year, TV Asahi produced its own adaptation of the manga with Nagai as the lead, and the 11.8% ratings average was enough to support the decision for a second season.

The main cast of the first season will return for the new one, including Waka Inoue (28) and Ken Utsui (78). The new theme song was also revealed to be "long time no see," a new tune by the band B'z that appears on their latest album.
