'No canteen food for the Kapoor girls'

Like most kids, we were only allowed to eat home-cooked food because my mother was very particular about our health. Even french fries, which anybody will tell you is my single most-favourite meal in the whole world, was made from scratch in my mom's kitchen.

My regular routine after school was sitting with my plate of fries and ketchup in front of the TV, watching Dynasty or a good Hindi movie.

Our school tiffins were jam or marmalade sandwiches with an apple. No canteen food for the Kapoor girls!

But of course, whenever I got the chance, I'd sneak out to the crushed-ice-gola stall or the roadside paani puri wala on Pali Hill. The sev puris were my favourite, and he knew how to make them exactly like I wanted them: extra spicy. I never told my mother, but I guess I didn't have to.

She always found out because I would always fall sick the very next day, and get a 'serves you right' from her.

When I look back at that time, I'm so grateful to my parents for making sure that I grew up as a normal kid. I got to enjoy the best of both worlds, and I wouldn't change a minute of it.

'Karisma bought me my first piece of designer clothing ever!'

Though I have to say Lolo is undoubtedly the coolest elder sister anyone could have. She never ignored me or treated me like the annoying kid-sister who wanted to follow her everywhere.

In fact, she indulged me quite a bit, taking me around and letting me hang out with her friends. Since she was already earning her own money, I was the beneficiary.

She was probably the person who introduced me to the beautiful world of fashion that I would soon fall completely in love with. She bought me my first piece of designer clothing ever! It was this gorgeous Jean Paul Gaultier newspaper print see-through top.

My friends were even more excited than I once they saw the label. Any special occasion and I would wear my Gaultier top and feel like an absolute star!

'I would blush from head to toe whenever Akshaye Khanna was around'

Because of our six-year age gap, I was still a child when Lolo joined the movies. But I'd accompany her to the sets as often as I could. Which basically meant as often as my mom would allow me!

I couldn't wait to get a chance to visit the set and watch all the drama and fun that went on behind the scenes.

Lolo was the sexy new actress being romanced by all the hottest male stars of that time, always the centre of attention. We'd go absolutely crazy spotting all our favourite heroes.

I had a huge crush on Akshaye Khanna at the time, and would literally blush from head to toe whenever he was around.

I was so starry-eyed at that time, but the famous Kareena confidence gene didn't stop me from telling anyone who'd listen that I was also going to be as famous an actress one day.

Report Card, 2012: How Kat, Kareena, Deepika performed

Raja Sen in Mumbai

Let's get this straight, this is not about reviews. Or about how good these particular actresses are as, well, actresses. This is a rating based on the 10 most bankable women in the country and how bankable they've remained after 2012. This is about box office, yes, but also about public perception and image.

Here, then, are the women making the megabudgets possible:

Anushka Sharma

We only saw Sharma in one film this year, the much-hyped and highly successful Jab Tak Hai Jaan. However, the film will undoubtedly be remembered more for being Yash Chopra's swansong than for its own merits, and Sharma -- in a role that dialed her natural effervescence up to shrieky levels -- didn't really make much of an impact.

Grade: B-

Asin

Asin had two hits this year in Bol Bachchan and Housefull 2, but neither film had enough for the actress to do, and she continues to be A-lister arm candy.

Still, like Katrina Kaif was a few years ago, Asin is considered lucky by the producers, and that should keep her career on the upswing. Despite the flaccidity of Khiladi 786's box office performance.

Grade: B+

Deepika Padukone

Padukone had the one release this year, Cocktail, which performed adequately at the box office, but earned her lots of critical raves. I'm not one who agrees, but clearly Padukone -- who is admittedly taking risks with her choice of films, relatively speaking -- is being heralded as a stunning girl who can also act.
Grade: A

Kareena Kapoor

Kareena's had a sensational year, with hits in Ek Main Aur Ek Tu and Talaash, an item number in Dabanng 2 (that invariably went viral) and the industry's biggest wedding, with her Agent Vinod co-star Saif Ali Khan.

Clearly the actress is in the mood to dazzle, and she's won both critical plaudits and distributor raves. If she gallops on like this, she'll put an end to the sad but true married-heroine archetype.

Grade: A+

Katrina Kaif

She's been pretty solid too. Ek Tha Tiger, opposite Salman Khan, was one of the year's biggest hits, as was Jab Tak Hai Jaan, where she starred opposite Shah Rukh. Then there was Agneepath, the year's first hit, in which more people remembered her Chikni Chameli than the heroine. With Dhoom 3 next year, where she stars opposite Aamir, Kat is likely to stay our most bankable woman.

Parineeti Chopra

Ishaqzaade was a regressive mess and is unanimously looked on as a letdown after a crackling first half, but young Chopra proved herself defiantly and impressively in the film as a firebrand character with rustic authenticity.

As a follow-up to a highly praised first performance in a bad film, this girl seems to be on the right track.

Grade: B+

Priyanka Chopra

Chopra's first release this year, Agneepath, saw her robbed of screen presence. Teri Meri Kahaani, joining the fate of movies with multiple-Priyankas, was one of the year's biggest duds.

But then came Barfi, a runaway hit and one where several people seem to have genuinely loved and been impressed by Priyanka's performance.

She's also had a very generic sounding song released, but let's wait and watch if she turns into Mariah or Whitney.

Grade: B

Rani Mukherji

It's been a while since Mukherji has had two releases in the same year, and while her striking, understated and raw performance in Talaash is enough to win her several rounds of applause, her choice to have signed on a film as daft as Aiyyaa pulls her down several, several notches.

It's going to take a while for us to forget that monstrosity, Miss Mukherji.

Grade: B-

Sonakshi Sinha

Sinha starred in one of the year's biggest flops, Joker, but soon regained her hit-only status with blockbusters like Son Of Sardaar and Dabanng 2. Like Asin, she's a heroine looked on as big-movie filler, but that should serve her well enough.

Grade: B+

Vidya Balan

The indefatigable Vidya had but one release this year, and what a release it was. The only heroine-driven film in Hindi cinema history to ever breach the 100-crore ribbon, Kahaani was all Vidya, all the way.

Audiences love her, critics love her and judging by how tastefully she handled her wedding, we're justified in doing so. A class act, this.

Grade: A+

Best Introduction Scenes of our Bollywood Actresses

Listed some introduction shots of our Bollywood actress. Depends on the director and the movie how actresses are introduced in the movie. Below are some which according me is some of the best introduction shots.

Share your fav intro scenes........

P.S Am not comparing the scenes, its not a who's best battle. Saying this is some of their best intro scenes. Keep comments clean

Kareena Kapoor Khan
Bodyguard – I absolutely loved her intro scene in Bodyguard. Beautifully shot, looks amazing. Second on my list is the introduction of her character in Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan
Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam – Man Mohini one of my fav songs from the song. Sanjay Leela Bas did full justice to this beautiful actress. Paro comes next on my list, yet another great introduction to her character in Devdas.

Priyanka Chopra
Dostana I guess has to be Priyanka best intro scene which introduced Priyanka with a new look. Barsaat also had a good introduction scene of PC. Loved the Indian beauty touch.

Vidya Balan
Parineeta no doubt. Am sure she got everyone thinking, who is this beautiful actress?

Katrina Kaif
Mere Brother ki Dulhan – We had a little intro scene before cut to Dhunki which explained her character. Second on list is probably Jab Tak Hain Jaan.

Bipasha Basu
Loved both her intro scenes in Dhoom 2. Bips also looked pretty Fab in her intro scene in Race.

Deepika Padukone
Om shanti Om - Nothing gets better than Dreamy Girl herself.

Anushka Sharma
Introduction of Taani ji was pretty fab in Rab ne Bane De Jodi.
P.S this not her introduction scene in the movie.

Sonam Kapoor
Loved the introduction of her character in Saawariya , second would be Aisha.

Kajol
Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham – India winning cricket, Anjali & her sweet shop, Rahul and his promises to his dad, scene is so beautifully shot and the whole ‘Mazaaki’ scene that followed it. Kajol introduction in the second half of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai is another beautiful intro scene for Kajol.

Karisma Kapoor
Will go with the Main Albeli song in Zubeidaa. She had a few secs intro before this song but this took her character forward. Second would be Dil Toh Pagal Hai.

Rani Mukerji
Kuch Hota Hai for sure. Loved it! Also loved her intro scene in Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna.

Preity Zinta
Veer Zaara nothing gets better than being a Yash Chopra heroine. PZ looked beautiful in every scene of VZ. Also used to love that Piya Piya o Piya song from Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega.

Madhuri Dixit & Sridevi
I don't think its right for me to judge Madhuri or Sridevi's intro scenes as I haven't some of their movies but will go with Devdas for Madhuri Dixit. Lamhe/ Chandni for Sridevi. Some of my Favs.
