THE WEAPON
Real Life: “Rail-splitter,” a political nickname and the basis for Lincoln’s everyman appeal, was a nod to his humble roots and knack for splitting logs with an ax.
Reel: That ax gets some Bond-worthy updates for the film: The blade is coated with silver for vampire-slicing efficiency, and it can also turn into a gun.
THE TRAGEDY
Real Life: He lost many loved ones during his life but was especially shattered by the death of his 11-year-old son, Willie, from a mysterious illness, which historians believe was typhoid.
Reel: Willie is the victim of a vampire assassination plot. The filmmakers used the boy’s death to put their hero “in the deepest hole possible,” says Grahame-Smith.
THE INSPIRATION
Real Life: Lincoln’s antislavery sentiments were likely stoked by watching a slave auction during a trip to New Orleans at age 19.
Reel: While visiting the Big Easy, Lincoln discovers that many slave owners are vampires looking for an easy source of blood
Auntie dah gie tengok movie ni. Sbg seorg yg tak berapa gemar cerita hantu & such, cerita ni takder menakutkan tahap maxima. Lebih byk adegan berlawan2.
Terlalu byk adegan yg tak masuk akal - mcm aksi berlawan atas bumbung keretapi.Dan adegan keretapi masih boleh bergerak, walaupun tiang landasan yg terbakar. Sbb dari mula, cerita ni mmg ngarut gitu, auntie layan jer.
Fyi, bila en suami booked ticket online, auntie ingat cerita ni mcm historical movie. Bila sampai panggung, baru tau cerita vampire... Oh auntie tertipu tipah....
Went to watch this movie during the weekend and absolutely in love with it! yeahh Timor Bekmambetov amazed me again, just like what he did with Wanted..... came in to watch this with zero expectations, even felt like declining coz the runtime was not enough by my personal standard of 2 hrs plus for a wholesome cinematic experience...... but still i went and being satisfied......
being a sucker for vampire movies and lots of other fantasy and mythical creatures and genres, i found that it's easy for me to enjoy this movie without being too critical about the history and all.... after all, it is a different supernatural outtake of the actual history.... just think of it as pure entertainment and u'll be fine .........
but the movie does has its flaws..... one being the inconsistent make-up on Abe and his wife Mary.... sometimes they appeared being too old, but sometimes not! but that's ok coz i still love the superb action scenes... which is now of course Bekmambetov's signature style....
on to the actors .... Benjamin Walker as Abe Lincoln really amazes me... first thing I noticed was how he looks so much like the young Liam Neeson! I've never seen him in anything else before so I can't resist to check him out on IMDB.... it turned out that he did play Neeson's younger self in 2004's Kinsey. Wish that one day they will play father and son in a movie.... apart from his good looks and great tall n lean stature, Walker is quite an actor too...... looking forward to see more of him in the future......
Anthony Mackie as his bestie, William is quite good too.... first noticed this guy in The Hurt Locker and he's great.. Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Abe's wife is commendable, so was Jimmi Simpson as Speed...... the bad guys, lead by Rufus Sewell, were okay... the vampires were quite scary, and the funny thing was they can actually walk in the sun without being sparkly like those in Twilight! haha.... plus, vamps in this movie can't kill each other....
Dominic Cooper as Abe's mentor, deserves a special mention coz he's basically the scene stealer! yeap, to those not familiar, he's Tony Stark's father Howard ..... I tell u, if ever was a recasting of this character Henry Sturgess, I will suggest Robert Downey Jr... coz they do have the same swag and personality... so appropriate for them to be father n son in Iron Man! I kept on picturing RDJ whenever Cooper comes on screen! Anyway, Cooper as I said before, just stole every scenes he was in complete with style and grace.....
so overall, highly recommended to those who loves popcorn action flick ....just don't think too much and you'll enjoy it.......
