wujud siberian tiger ni (perhaps tak dijumpai di malaysia
tapi di siberia, china / korea) --  ianya ialah binatang yang
under protection  cuz it is an endangered animal --

lets look at this --

The Siberian Tiger

The Siberian tiger is an endangered animal. It is found in eastern Siberia and also in northern China and Korea. There may be as many Siberian tigers running free as there are in captivity. Estimates are that there are probably no more than 200 Siberian tigers left in the wild

The were 8 subspecies of tigers. Three of them are now extinct and the other 5 subspecies of tigers are endangered

Malayan Tiger

The Malayan Tiger (Panthera tigris jacksoni, Malay: Harimau Malaya), exclusively found in the southern part of the Malay Peninsula, until 2004 was not considered a subspecies in its own right. The new classification came about after a study by Luo S-J et al. from the Laboratory of Genomic Diversity, part of the U.S. National Cancer Institute.

Recent counts showed there are 600-800 Malayan tigers in the wild, making it the largest tiger population other than the Bengal and Indochinese tigers. It is, nevertheless, still an endangered sub-species

The Malayan tiger is perhaps the most majestic animal and also very endangered. There are probably not more than a few hundred left in the Peninsular (tigers do not occur in Borneo). In comparison with other tiger subspecies, the Malayan tiger is smaller in stature due to adaptations over the millennia to survive in this hot, humid environment.

Hawksbill back to Malacca shores
By MARSHA TAN

MALACCA: More of the critically endangered Hawksbill turtles have returned to the state to lay eggs over the past decade. And more than half of those eggs have hatched.

Fisheries Department director general Datuk Junaidi Che Ayub said that in 1996, a total of 297 nestings were recorded while in 2006, the total had increased to 388.

Rhinos in Royal Belum under threat

KUALA LUMPUR: The news is grim for Sumatran rhinos in the Belum forest of Perak.

The area has long been considered one of the last strongholds of the highly-endangered species, but a recent survey by WWF-Malaysia revealed that this might not be the case any more.

The survey from July 7 to 17 hinted at only a very small number of rhinos left in Royal Belum and revealed heavy human encroachment in the park.

The likelihood of hunting was high, with the survey team finding animal traps, bullet cartridges, abandoned campsites and evidence of illegal extraction of agarwood (gaharu) in many sites.

WWF-Malaysia executive director Dr Dionysius Sharma said further analysis was required to determine a final estimate of the rhino population.

揗ore time on the ground is needed to carefully assess the ecology and determine the presence of rhinos,

Turtle sanctuary needs funds

Cherating beach is being visited by more turtles than before to lay their
eggs, thanks to the role the Cherating Turtle Sanctuary (inset) plays in
ensuring hatchlings survive to be released into the sea

KUANTAN: More turtles have been sighted laying eggs on Cherating beach this year.

This points to the success of the conservation programme carried out by the Cherating Turtle Sanctuary and Information Centre.

As of yesterday, 288 penyu agar (green turtles) had laid eggs on Cherating beach this year, in contrast to the 160 turtles recorded for the whole of last year.

The success of the conservation programme is a cause for celebration, but the same cannot be said of the centre entrusted with running it.

Established by the Fisheries Department in 1988, the Cherating Turtle Sanctuary and Information Centre is short on staff and funds. Many of its facilities are in poor condition and there are fears that the worsening situation will affect the turtle conservation programme.

"Something has to be done as the future of the turtles in this area depends on the centre. Save the centre first if we want to save the turtles," said a former ranger at the centre.

Frequent visitor Mohd Ali Zakaria, 42, who is from Kemanan, said the dirty water could kill the hatchlings at the centre. "There were also cattle roaming near the hatchery when we visited recently."

Head of the Cherating Turtle Sanctuary and Information Centre Abdul Karim Mohd Shah said the lack of funds and staff had hampered efforts to improve the facilities at the turtle sanctuary.

Being the only permanent worker at the centre, Karim said he had to do most of the jobs himself, including gardening and cleaning the turtle pool.

He is assisted by a part-time worker and six rangers who help bring tourists to the turtle nesting areas at night.  "Although we change the water in the turtle pool every three days, its quality varies as we pump the water directly from the sea."

Karim said the sea water was not treated or filtered as the machine to do this would cost at least RM6,000 to install.  "Sometimes we dare not change the pool抯 water as the sea water is too murky or has traces of oil."

The private sector and the public should help the sanctuary because the allocation it receives from the federal and state governments is only sufficient for basic maintenance.

Karim said the sanctuary released thousands of hatchlings into the sea every year.

"It is also one of the main tourist attractions in Pahang, with more and more visitors coming here each year."

In 2005, more than 30,000 local and almost 10,000 foreign tourists visited the information centre. Visitor numbers increased to more than 40,000 locals and nearly 11,000 foreigners last year.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

i think it is pertinent to get the sanctuary funded cuz to ensure the
survival of these turtle  year after year ---

with more tourist come and visit the place  - this sanctuary should have better
facilities for these turtles  to get healthy hatchlings that will be released into
the sea each year --

if the place is not be kept nicely and lack of important facilities there'll be a
threatening for the life of those turtles -  especially if the water in the sanctuary
not keeping clean and polluted -
