“Moon Lovers” Begins Production, to be Completely Filmed Before Broadcast
“Moon Lovers,” the Korean remake of the live-action Chinese drama “Bu Bu Jing Xin,” has already generated much buzz with its star-studded cast, and now pictures of their first gathering at a script reading are being released. “Moon Lovers” is directed by Kim Kyu Tae and written by Jo Yoon Young. It stars Lee Joon Gi, IU, Kang Ha Neul, Kim San Ho, Hong Jong Hyun, Yoon Sun Woo, EXO‘s Baekhyun, Nam Joo Hyuk, Ji Soo, Kang Han Na, Kim Sung Kyun, Park Ji Young, Woo Hee Hin, Park Shi Eun, and Jin Ki Joo. “Moon Lovers” will be a 100 percent pre-produced (filmed 100 percent before airing) historical fantasy drama, which means there will be none of the dreaded “live-shoots” that often ruin a drama’s quality. Lee Joon Gi takes on the male lead role of Wang So, the fourth imperial prince of Taejo Wang Geon of Goryeo, who was the founder of the Goryeo Dynasty. Lee Joon Gi expressed his happiness at being able to portray a king in a historical drama after starring in so many and with being able to work with so many young actors. IU takes on the female lead role of Hae Su, a “relentless” woman of the 21st century whose spirit is transported to the Goryeo Dynasty. She promised to play the many sides of Hae Su to her best, showing herself well-prepared at the script reading. In one of the images released, the princes of Taejo Wang Geon stand together, holding up the “secret number.” The first prince is played by Kim San Ho, third by Hong Jong Hyun, fourth by Lee Joon Gi, eighth by Kang Ha Neul, ninth by Yoon Sun Woo, 10th by Baekhyun, 13th by Nam Joo Hyuk, and 14th by Ji Soo. “Moon Lovers” is expected to premiere in the later half of this year.
