Zulfadli pemain ke-3 terbaik negara mangsa kebodohan BAM akan tumpu Terbuka KL

P ETALING JAYA: Independent shuttler Zulfadli Zulkiffli will seek to put the Thomas Cup snub behind with a worthy show at the Kuala Lumpur Open.
The 23-year-old former world junior champion is the men’s singles top seed in the first leg of the National Grand Prix Circuit, which starts on Tuesday at the Juara Stadium in Bukit Kiara.
It’s a chance for Zulfadli to prove a point with Goh Soon Huat, the second seed, and third-seeded Chong Wei Feng also in the fray.
Despite being the third best ranked singles shuttler to Lee Chong Wei and Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin, world No. 39 Zulfadli was left out of the Thomas Cup squad. Lower-ranked Soon Huat and Wei Feng were included instead and they helped Malaysia reach the semi-finals in Kunshan, China, recently.
For Zulfadli, he has put the exclusion behind him.
“I don’t have to prove anything this week. I was the national champion in 2014. It will be just another tournament for me,” said Zulfadli.
“Still, I’m not going to take it easy. I need match practice in my run-up to the two upcoming Superseries events (Indonesian Open from May 30-June 5 and Australian Open from June 7-12).
“I have not set any target but I certainly hope to do well this week.”
Zulfadli has a first-round bye and will open his campaign against Chong Yee Han on Wednesday.
Barring any upsets, Zulfadli should face fourth seed Soong Joo Ven in the last four. Soon Huat and Wei Feng are expected to meet in the other semi-final.
Former internationals Liew Daren and Tan Chun Seang are also expected to challenge for the crown.
In the women’s singles, Goh Jin Wei will be defending the title. Jin Wei created history last year when she became the youngest-ever shuttler – at 15 – to win a local Open title.
Jin Wei’s biggest threat is national champion Tee Jing Yi.
Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong (men’s doubles), Joyce Choong Wai Chi-Yap Cheng Wen (women’s doubles) and Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing (mixed doubles) are the top seeds in their respective events.

Kalah dengan pemain yg ranking lebih tinggi tak heran lah. Itu sebabnya pemilihan perlu dibuat bersandarkan ranking. Sikit punya senang nak pilih. Itu pun geng sotong bam tak boleh buat |
