Pas fumes over provocative billboards, challenges owners to go public

KUALA KANGSAR: Pas today challenged those who put up billboards which accused the party of cooperating with Umno to make their stand publicly so that legal action can be taken against them.
Pas vice-president Idris Ahmad said the provocative billboards were uncalled for and immature. "Pas members and I are working hard to fight Umno in the by-election.
"If we behaved like what was being claimed by the irresponsible parties, we are cheating ourselves. "We are challenging the responsible parties to make their statement publicly so that we can take legal action against them," he told a press conference today.
Idris said the irresponsible parties had planned to put up six billboards here but were stopped by the Election Commission (EC) monitoring team. "They already put up three billboards in town but were not able to install the remainder after intervention from the EC," he said.
He said the installed billboards had also been removed by the monitoring team after Pas informed the EC.

'DAP admitted it put up provocative billboards'

SEKINCHAN: Parti Amanah Negara (PAN) today said that it was their Pakatan Harapan ally, DAP, which had crafted the inflammatory campaign billboards in Sekinchan town.
PAN communications director Khalid Samad said they were kept in the dark over the matter before finding out it was DAP that had erected the billboards on Wednesday.
Khalid said he had spoken to Selangor DAP chairman Tony Pua to clarify matters.
"Tony (Pua) explained that this was a situation where the Chinese community in particular have bottled up their feelings because of what Jamal (Sungai Besar Umno chief Datuk Jamal Yunos) had said about them.
"They are disappointed that Jamal had not retracted his hurtful racial statements and had not apologised to the Chinese community. Those were the bottled up feelings that they needed to express (through the billboards).
"We have discussed and agreed that we would not put up billboards like that as it can be provocative and should not happen anymore. We will have closer coordination between us to ensure that the messages on Pakatan Harapan billboards are the same," said Khalid.
Yesterday, police tore down six billboards with messages targeting Barisan Nasional and Pas leaders afer receiving a report from the public.
The messages include allegations against 1Malaysia Development Berhad and picture of Jamal allegedly uttering racist quotes. |
