Jerebu kembali landa ibu negara

BACAAN Indeks Pencemaran Udara (IPU), 16 Ogos 2016, 12 tengah hari. - Sumber apims.doe.gov.my
KUALA LUMPUR: Jerebu yang kerap melanda negara pada pertengahan tahun, dikesan berulang mulai tengah hari ini. Tinjauan BH kira-kira jam 12.30 tengah hari tadi mendapati, jarak penglihatan di sekitar bandar raya agak kabur dan berasap.
Semakan di laman web Jabatan Alam Sekitar mendapati sehingga jam 10 pagi ini, bacaan Indeks Pencemaran Udara (IPU) di seluruh negara menunjukkan bacaan sederhana iaitu kurang daripada 100. Petaling Jaya dan Shah Alam masing-masing mencatatkan bacaan IPU 54 dan 60 manakala bacaan tertinggi ialah di Kemaman, Terengganu iaitu 70.
IPU terendah dicatat di Sandakan, Sabah dan ILP Miri, Sarawak iaitu 27. Bacaan IPU antara 0-50 dikategorikan sebagai baik, 51-100 (sederhana), 101-200 (tidak sihat); 201-300 (sangat tidak sihat) dan 301-400 sebagai berbahaya.

Indonesian agency warns regional haze crisis may reoccur

JAKARTA: Indonesia's neighbouring states will encounter haze problems similar to those previously if all related stakeholders do not implement tougher measures to extinguish land fires affecting several areas across the Riau province immediately.
"Currently, the wind tends to blow to the southeast. If smoke haze occurs, there is a significant chance it will be brought by the wind to our neighbouring countries," its meteorology, climatology and geophysics agency (BMKG) head Sugarin said in Pekanbaru, Riau Monday.
Based on data released by the agency, Terra and Aqua satellites detected 54 hotspots in Rokan Hilir on Monday morning, making it the area with the highest number of hotspots in Riau.
Meanwhile, Dumai detected 15 hotspots, followed by Bengkalis (eight), Rokan Hulu (five), and Meranti Islands, Indragiri Hulu and Siak, which recorded three hotspots each. Kampar reported only one hotspot.
"In total, 92 hotspots were detected in Riau this morning, 84 of which were in coastal areas with a significant amount of peatland," said Sugirin.
"The number of hotspots in the province has increased significantly, as only 66 hotspots were detected on Sunday. This is because of the dry weather, which makes the land a lot more flammable."
Residents in Duri, Mandau district, Bengkalis regency, claimed they could smell smoke since early Monday.
Several areas in Tanah Putih district, Rokan Hilir regency, have been blanketed with thick smoke since Monday morning. The smoke came from land fires in Putat village in Tanah Putih district and Siarang Arang village in Pujud district. – The Jakarta Post/Asia News Network |
