What I've Been Playing
Whilst it's a difficult time for those addicted to playing new games,the end of the avalanche of released does give us a bit of a chance totake care of our backlogs. With all the fuss about Assassin's Creed 2and how much better it is than the first game I thought I'd go back andfind out whether it was quite as bad as people are saying.

Assassin's Creed. I'm about a third of the way through and it'sone of those games that whilst compelling in short bursts does get dullif played for extended periods, due to the repetitive nature of it'skey gameplay elements. If you only played the main quest missions itwould probably be a pretty short experience, but the optional missionsmake it last much longer. The optional missions are limited to just afew types, but completing them does make the main quest easier invarious ways. For example, if you climb to the top of the varioustowers in each city, you'll get a clear view of the surrounding map.

So far the main story doesn't make any sense to me at all, but thatdoesn't prevent me from enjoying free running through the environments.The controls sometimes lead to some frustrating missteps, but on thewhole it makes moving on the rooftops a joy. The combat initiallyseemed really difficult, relying on careful timing and it is prettylimited, but the animations do ensure that you continue to enjoy allthat fighting.
