AISHWARYA'S COMICAL ACT

Aishwarya Rai, the worldwide icon of feminine beauty enters a new league of her astonishing career. Ash is at her comical best in Boney Kapoor's 'Kyon Ho Gaya Na'. The film is certainly going to spark the silver screen, as this is the first film that will have the hottest pair Vivek-Ash in the lead role. Ash enjoys comedy as she feels that comedy is an integral and important of the acting. Her new experiment might turn new leafs in her careers as the perfect on screen chemistry might do wonders. This Sameer Karnik directed film is a fun loving comedy that is spiced up with the romantic shades of the hottest pair of the town. To add jewel to the crown Amitabh Bachchan plays important role in the film. Ash feels she has a tremendous sense of humor that helped her in the film.

After the male dominated drama in 'Khakee' 'Kyun Ho Gaya Na' comes as a breather as it has all the ingredients of a real entertainer. Besides being an international beauty personality the controversy of 'The Rising' dominated headlines. Ash clarifies her stand that she was too busy for the shooting of Gurinder Chaddha's 'Bride and Prejudice' in London for the past six months. Besides this she was also busy in some of the international concerts. She has adapted herself to the tunes of Bollywood as she believes in variety of roles. She was last better heard for her brilliant act in critically acclaimed Rituparno Ghosh's 'Choker Bali'. This adaptation of Rabindra Nath Tagore's greatest works has Ash in the role of a destitute and sexually repressive widow who craves for freedom. 'Kyon Ho Gaya Na' has painted world red and golden for her as she stems out a real comical and romantic entertainer.

Rekha dreams of Amitabh

The evergreen Rekha who dominated the silver screen in 70's and 80's with the legendary Amitabh Bachchan is now in hot pursuit of working with him. Rekha was there at the trial show of 'Khakee' and she acknowledged Amitabh's work. According to her he is still the emperor of box office and dominates the show. After the brilliant on screen chemistry with Hema Malini in 'Baghbaan' she dreams for a project with Amitabh.

Sushmita reaches 'Shanti Kutir'

Sushmita's flamboyance hasn't come to its true color, as her last release 'Paisa Vasool' was a washout. Nevertheless she is down but not out as she plans her destination to 'Shanti Kutir'. This is another horrifying crime thriller by the master craftsman Ram Gopal Verma that is directed by Saurabh Narang. 'Paisa Vasool' was the story of two women protagonists who find their way out in a cosmopolitan city. In this hot pursuit they share some hilarious and terrifying experiences. Ramu was inspired by her act, as this might be one reason that she is doing this film. The icing on the cake is her role in Shahrukh's home production 'Main Hoon Na',. With project like 'Shanti Kutir' she can hope for sunny days.

Bipasha gets a taste of star-struck Delhi

Star crazy fans vying with each other to have a 'dekko' of film star is nothing new for the inhabitants of 'tinselville'.

However, the mob hysteria witnessed on the arrival of Bipasha Basu to inaugurate a store in Delhi caught the Bollywood star unawares.

As Bipasha arrived to inaugurate a new store of P P Jewellers at Gurudwara road on Monday, she was greeted by a ''sea of humanity'' wanting to have a glimpse of the glamorous star, who has earned a huge fan following her portrayals in Jism and Raaz.

Utter chaos prevailed at the venue. In their eagerness to have a glimpse of Bipasha, fans pushed and shoved at her car, forcing the star to remain ensconced in her vehicle for close to half an hour.

Even when the security men cleared the crowd to let her get with the inauguration, the crowd headed for the stage, making the venue resemble some public rally. The state of affairs remained the same for a long time forcing Bipasha to cut her programme short and leave the venue.

In fact, as news that Bipasha was to inaugurate the store got around, hundreds of people began lining the streets of Gurudwara road since noon.

This is the second time in recent weeks that the arrival of Bollywood stars has witnessed a mob frenzy. Last month, a crowd fans had created utter chaos when film stars Anupam Kher, Urmila Matondkar and Parvin Dabas descended on Rajghat for the promotion of Kher's new film Maine Gandhi Ko Nahin Maara.

'KYONKI' FULFILS SALLU'S DREAM TO ACT WITH KAREENA!

Bollywood's two shining stars though belonging to different generations -- Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor -- may have joked some years back that they would like to act together. They had dreamt this when Salman was shooting with Kareena's elder sister Karisma Kapoor in Raj Kumar Santoshi's 'Andaaz Apna-Apna'. Salman used to tease Kareena in his leisure during the shoot by asking her to grow fast so that she could become his heroine. Who knew that it would come true one day . Both have acted together in 'Kyonki' that is going to release soon.

Since many of Salman's movies with Karisma like 'Jeet', 'Judwaa', and 'Bibi No One' have hit the box office, it is wondered if Sallu will hit the box office with Kareena too in 'Kyonki'. Sallu regrets that his dream of acting with Kareena could not be fulfilled earlier because Ketan Mehta replaced Kareena with Amisha Patel in his 'Jalwa'. Similarly, Rakesh Roshan had planned to launch his son Hrithik with Kareena in his 'Kaho Na Pyaar Hai'. Here again, Roshan changed Kareena for Amisha Patel. We are keeping our fingers crossed about the success of Sallu-Kareena starrer 'Kyonki'. Our good wishes are with both of them though.

SHAAHID: DON'T COMPARE ME WITH SRK

Shaahid Kapoor has shot to fame in Bollywood in a short stint. However, his comparison with the Hindi movies' super star Shah Rukh Khan has neither suited him nor to the industry. After all, Shaahid belongs to the third generation of Hindi movies-the eras of Dilip Kumar, Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh. However, Shaahid is moving faster than his contemporaries. And, he has proved this by signing Sooraj Barjatya's movie recently. In spite of it he is quite far away from stardom. Shaahid admits this, and clarifies that he had only said that he wanted to reach where SRK has already reached.

"Shah Rukh has moved there after a very long struggle and I have just begun. I am still looking for an opportunity. Moreover, I need luck to help me." After his entry in movies, Shaahid has almost given up his earlier hobbies of dancing and playing cricket. At one time, he was a regular at Shyamak Davar's troupe dances. But, he doesn't like visiting discos or parties. He is unable to continue with his hobbies due to his popularity and preoccupation with shooting. But , whenever possible he watches movies. His favorite stars are the leaders of three generations-Dilip, Amitabh and Shah Rukh.

MANISHA : AGE HAS MATURED ME

The viewers of Bollywood have taken a serious note of the absence of the favorite actress Manisha Koirala in movies these days . We met with Manisha recently soon after her visit to Dharmshala in Himachal Pradesh . She had been there to meet Dalai Lama to acquaint herself with more knowledge of Buddhism.

She says she has been cherishing a desire to meet him since long as she has studied many a book on the teachings of Buddha. Thereafter she went to the market for shopping but had to retreat following a large gathering of her fans. We had a brief tete-e-tete with her.

Is your age coming in the way of your career?

No, it's not so. I am 34 only. This is the right age for matured acting.

Haven't you shifted to 'B' grade movies?

I am for a good script and a strong role. These elements make a film either 'A' or 'B' grade.

What's your achievement in the recent years?

I have changed my priorities. I am no more enamored of my relationships as in the past. I don't go with my friendship any more. I decide to act on the basis of the strength of a role.

Do you like any director in particular ?

Yes, I wait for Ram Gopal Verma's movies since I worked with him in his 'Company'.

What are you doing at present?

I am acting in Verma's two movies -- 'Darwaza Band Rakho' and the other is unnamed . The shooting for the first film is almost over.

Any plan to enter direction in the near future?

Yes, I am waiting for a good script. I am ready to take it up.

PREETI SPARKLES

The touch-me-not girl of Rajshri's Video "Chui Mui Se" has come a long way. Now she is a hot spot in Bollywood. She had the much-needed break in Yash Chopra's 'Mohabbatein'. She has reasons to smile as she moved one step ahead with Bollywood's war brigade in 'L.o.C-Kargil'. Her cute and cuddly smile has had mesmerizing effect on the audience. Not much can be said about this cute daffodil that shines bright in broad sunlight against all odds. She prefers to chill out in her favorite nightclub "Athens" as she freaks out in theatres to watch her favorite movie. There is a long silence as she is charging for her next release 'Jaane Kya Hoga' opposite Aftab Shivdasni. Preeti plays a romantic lead while Aftab and Bipasha act in negative shades. To add to her list there are films like 'Chehra' and Firoz Nadiadwala's 'Aan'. The latter is a cop story starring Shatrughan Sinha and Akshay Kumar.

Rani shakes a leg with Saif

Yash Chopra has been one of the most treasured directors in the film industry. No matter who leads the cast one can expect beautiful scenes in the film. Saif Ali Khan and Rani Mukherjee were shooting in beautiful locations of Amsterdam and Paris. They were singing and dancing for a song sequence for Yash Chopra's 'Hum Tum'. Kunal Kohli directs this romantic film. Kiran Kher plays an important role. Yash Chopra's 'Silsila' was also shot in the beautiful tulips gardens of Amsterdam and one expects this to be another stunner. The musical duo Jatin Lalit has rendered the music. Earlier, Kunal Kohli directed Yash Chopra's 'Mujhse Dosti Karoge' starring Hrithik Roshan, Rani Mukherjee and Kareena Kapoor.

Well-done Amisha

In the tinsel town of Bollywood when every new starlet is adhering to body exposure Amisha Patel believes in clean entertainment. Amisha has been a promising actress right from the day one as she has blockbusters like 'Kaho Na Pyar Hai' and 'Gadar' to her credit. All eyes are set on his magnanimous project 'The Rising' opposite Aamir Khan that will be released by the end of the year. Amisha does not believe in the guidelines of Bipasha, Priyanka and Celina as she relies heavily on her looks and acting talent. Amisha has strong objection against skin show. She says she believes in family values. Generally, she prefers girl next-door roles, which portray ordinary Indian girl. This is certainly a positive move as this might set good example for others to follow. Well done Amisha, you deserve applause.

Govinda relieved

After a string of flops and disappointments, Govinda might be having a sigh of relief as his home production 'Sukh' is completed. The film has the hit pair Govinda-Chunky Pandey of the 'Aankhen' fame. Kirti Kumar, the cousin of Govinda, has directed this film. It was completed in 27 days, flat from start to finish. Isn't it incredible! Govinda has lost couple of kilos to look fit and fine. In the film, he plays a simple guy "Chandraprakash" who believes in simple life and high thinking. Chunky Pandey is excited about his role in the film as he plays a photographer. Besides Chunky and Govinda, Aarti Chabbria and Priti Jhangiani, play their love interest. Aarti and Priti have already played romantic lead opposite Govinda. Kamini, Govinda's sister, has written a couple of lyrics for it. Govinda's luck might take u-turn with this movie.

SALMAN VERSUS VIVEK

Is it the beginning of an on -screen war between the two Ash's love- struck or just a coincident? Salman and Vivek were at mobile war some time back. There seems to be a clash of ideas this time as both actors are doing films with an identical theme and title. One believes these films are highly inspired from Oscar nominated 'Lagaan' as the backdrop of both the films is rural India. Showman Subhash Ghai's ambitious project 'Kisna' has Vivek Oberoi in the lead role, whereas Sohail Khan's home production 'Kisan' has Salman Khan. Punit Sira directs 'Kisan' and the film revolves around the lifestyles of peasants. Punit who directed Sohail's 'I - proud to be Indian' believes that his film is action-packed high voltage in which Salman will be giving deadly performance. 'I -proud to be Indian' will be hitting theatres soon. Sohail Khan will play the second lead and the rest of the cast is yet to be decided. This will be the first occasion when Salman and Sohail will team together in a film. 'Kisan' will be shot extensively in Rajasthan. The movie will raise the burning issues of the farmers.

Subhash Ghai's 'Kisna' was officially launched in January 2004 and has two new heroines in the lead roles. Ghai's film is a period saga of a protagonist fighting against the evils of society. The film will be simultaneously shot in English to make it commercially viable in the overseas market. Let's hope that the acting prowess of Salman and Vivek matches with Aamir Khan's perfection and genius.

MANISHA'S HOT AND SPICY WAYS

The most controversial actresses of our times Manisha Koirala returns once gain with yet another bold theme oriented film 'Tum-A Dangerous Obsession'. After the invasion by small screen in the entertainment market and uncontrollable video piracy, Bollywood filmmakers are turning towards bold subjects that should give them reasons for skin shows and thus achieve success on celluloid. If these films are going to draw audiences then we shall see more of it in future. Manisha's yet another bold act 'Tum' is a presentation of illegitimate relationship that transforms into deadly obsession. Aruna Raje's 'Tum' is closely inspired from Hollywood film 'Unfaithful' and shows Manisha as an isolated housewife who falls for the charm of a man much younger to her age. The film has explicit scenes that have Manisha in bed with Rajat Kapoor and Karan Nath.

Rajat Kapoor plays on screen husband and the film has two long bedroom sequences that last for more than five minutes. The film ran into trouble with censors as the film was certified with "A" certificate. The film was cleared later as director Aruna Raje justified them as the need of the script. She has directed bold films like 'Rihaee' and 'Bhairavi', which explored the man-woman relationship explicitly. In a marquee of bold films the film stands tall with the directorial genius of Aruna Raje. She expresses this as a genuine attempt as the changing face of Indian society. Raje had to cope with the pressure of woman director as she has picturised sex scenes with modesty. Manisha's last bold act in 'Ek Choti Si Love Story' ran into controversy as the film had objectionable scenes shot with the body double. Manisha created upsurge and raged a war against the director K. Shashilal Nair but this time she is satisfied with Aruna Raje. She is rather excited about the project and believes this might open a new page in her sagging career.

AAMIR IN 5 AVTAARS IN CAR AD

Aamir Khan is usually only seen once a year on big screen. But in the recent past we have been seeing the actor on television endorsing a few products. And now, Aamir Khan has outdone himself. The actor will be seen in five of his much-loved avtaars in a car commercial. We have tried to find out the details for you. He's famous for working on the look of every character he plays. For Aamir Khan, those efforts have paid off. In a spanking new car commercial, five different avtaars of the actor, hitch a ride with the original.

Sidharth Marathe from 'Ghulam', 'Dil Chahta Hai's Aakash, Munna of 'Rangeela', 'Lagaan's Bhuvan, and ACP Ajay Singh Rathode from 'Sarfarosh' are brought back to life by the versatile actor in this ad-film directed by Prasoon Pandey.

As selective about his endorsements as he is about his films, Aamir has previously lent his name to a cola brand, and a watch company. The car, he has said, holds a special place in his heart. "When I was 14 years old I used to try and drive my dad's Fiat Car. I used to whack the car keys and go for a drive. Though only at 18 I was allowed to drive that is when I got my license. But I enjoy driving. And since then of course I have bought my own cars. And now, that I am doing a few commercials. Doing a car ad was really called for. I got the right car to endorse. And the way the commercial has turned out, it holds two of my passions, acting and driving," says Aamir Khan.

Since five of his favorite characters appear in the commercial, we try to get that one favorite out of him. " You have put me in a very tight spot. It's difficult to choose. Akash of 'Dil Chahta Hai' is very urban - someone like me. Bhuwan of 'Lagaan' is innocent and sincere, ACP Ajay Rathod is excellent at his work, and Munna and Siddharth Marathe are also very close to my heart. I can't pick one. All I can say is that every film I do, try to portray something new, which I can enjoy working on and my audience would love to see me in," says Aamir Khan.

Filmed in Mumbai and Lonavala, the new commercial will be on air shortly. Quite a tough shoot for bringing out the 5 avtaars of the actor but the team behind the ad says Aamir's involvement in its making, was more than that of just an actor. " Aamir is of course very passionate about his work. So, whether it's a film or an ad-film, he gives you enough time to shoot. There is absolutely no rush with him to shoot. Also apart from acting, he also comes up with ideas, which make production easy, and in turn shooting for it becomes really smooth. It's really fun working with him," says ad filmmaker Prasoon Pandey.

Recently embroiled in a controversy over an alleged love child, rumors of impending nuptials with girlfriend Kiran Rao, and the cold shoulder to his last release 'Mangal Pandey' may have made a substantial dent in his popularity, but at the moment, the actor seems to be keeping his eyes fixed firmly on the road.

Akshaye and Tara don't deny

Tara Sharma is bold enough to admit her special relations with actor Akshaye Khanna unlike her colleagues who go on denying it until the affair takes the legal shape. When asked about it she says why should she disclose it to the media? She doesn't deny it though she refuses to say yes. Interestingly, Akshaye smiles whenever he is confronted with his relationship with Tara. But both of them have expressed their keen desire to work together, but no director or the producer is coming forward with such a proposal. Meanwhile Tara has already started signing B grade movies.

Shaahid annoys Ghosh

Director Ken Ghosh is very sad these days. The reason is that Shaahid Kapoor who rose to stardom in his 'Ishq Vishq' is not paying any heed to the director. Ghosh has offered him another movie, and its script to read. However, Shaahid is evading to read Ghosh' script on one or the other pretext. Shaahid is perhaps keeping a distance from Ghosh because the latter's movie 'Fida' starring Shaahid had flopped at box office. Shaahid is busy in Raj Productions' movie , and is hopeful of bagging some offers from Subhash Ghai and Harry Baweja.

Esha waiting to play Razia Sultan

Esha Deol is anxiously waiting for her next 'Shaadi No One' that's going to release on Diwali. But she is very impatient to play the character of Razia Sultan. Yes, she is fully aware that her mother Hema Malini did play this role and the movie proved a flop. Still, she is cherishing a desire to act as Razia Sultan, a historical personality.
