A drama based on the novel "Toji" ("Land"), one of the masterpieces of Korean literature.

The drama is the first production of "Toji" since 1995, when famous Korean novelist Park Kyung-ree finished the 21-volume novel after writing for 26 years. The novel was made into a movie in 1974 and television dramas in 1979 and 1987.

SBS said it invested 15 billion won (US$13.6 million) to produce the 50-episode drama, and will air its first installment on Nov. 27.

Starring Kim Hyun-joo and Yoo Jun-sang as the main characters Choi Seo-hi and Kim Gil-sang, the new drama was directed by SBS TV producer Lee Chong-han of "Wonderful Days."
The saga follows the turbulent history and hardships of the Korean people between the late 19th century and 1945, when the 36-year Japanese colonial rule of the Korean Peninsula ended, by depicting the rise and fall of a wealthy family in a rural area over several generations.

It also deals with the 1894 Donghak uprising, during which farmers across the country took to the streets to demand fair distribution of wealth and respect for human dignity.

To heighten the realism of the historical drama, the broadcaster spent 7.5 billion won to build different sets in Hadong, South Gyeongsang Province, and Hoengseong, Gangwon Province.

The sets have 40 "hanok" (traditional Korean houses) from the 19th century, and 80 Chinese and Japanese buildings from the Japanese colonial era.

"I will make the new drama different from previous ones by focusing more on people rather than the development of incidents that trigger discord," Lee said.

Production on the first 18 episodes of the drama, in which more than 80 actors and actresses appear, has already been completed, the producer said.

Literature critics said the changing fortunes of the Choi family in "Toji" reflect the fall and reconstruction of Korea.      The novel was translated into English, French and Japanese.

Park, 78, is one of the top authors in Korean literary history.

Hehehe....pinjam ler... Yang tu pon kebetulan jek East jumpa... East tengok kejap jek crite nie semalam.... kureng minat arr cite lama2 nia.... apa2 selamat menonton la buat yang berhajat nak tengok tu... ^^
