Actor Uhm Tae-woong Steps Out of Pop Singer Sister's Shadow

To some, Uhm Tae-woong is known as one of 2005's most promising new talents who saw his career take off with a supporting role in ``Sassy Girl Chunhyang,'' the television drama that was a modern take on the traditional folk tale, followed by a title role in the KBS miniseries ``Life Again.''
Such efforts bring us to the present, when Uhm is starring alongside Eric in the recently premiered MBC miniseries ``Wolf.''
Many of his casual fans will know that he is the younger brother of pop singer and actress Uhm Jung-hwa. However, to those who have followed his career more closely know that the younger sibling is in fact no newcomer to the scene, with his debut tracing back to a small part in the movie ``The Happenings'' in 1998.
A string of performances that went unnoticed followed. Then, Uhm's career took a turn for the better when he gained recognition for his portrayal of a member of a suicide commando unit trained to kill Kim Il-sung in the 1960s in the 2003 blockbuster ``Silmido.''
Even then, it often took the mentioning of his older sister's name for audiences to recognize him, Uhm has said in numerous interviews over the years.
But at the launching party of ``Premium,'' his official fan club, which took place when ``Life Again'' was airing last fall, he said that he finally feels he is no longer seen as just ``Uhm Jung-hwa's kid brother.''
``I think I can say that I'm now free of that label,'' he said before a crowd made up of some 800 fans. Also on hand was his big sister, whom he later addressed as his ideal girlfriend type.
In ``Wolf'' Uhm takes on the role of Yoon Sung-mo, a pompous yet hilariously sweet department store executive and son of a rich politician. Yoon is competing with Eric to win the love of Han Ji-min.
The role is something entirely new for Uhm, who has almost always played the bad guy.
In a recent interview with Yonhap News Agency, Uhm said as the role was very different from his characters in ``Sassy Girl Chunhyang'' and ``Life Again,'' it had him worried.
``The acting was a challenge as I didn't know how the audience would react seeing me whining and acting so childish,'' he said.
While he considers ``Chunhyang'' to be a piece in which he held back some ``Life Again'' was one where he felt he bared all.
``Having gone through that I feel more at ease now when acting,'' he said.
``Looking back on 2005, it is a year that I will remember fondly,'' he said. He added that he hopes to do a love story in the near future, his ultimate goal growing old and being able to carry out the father-role.
``Wolf'' airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 9:50 p.m. on MBC.

Moon Jung-Hyuk Suffers Serious Injury
People facing health problems in TV Dramas is nothing new, sadly. We reported about Lee Bo-Young's several little accidents on the set of 서동요 (The Ballad of Seo Dong), and recently two young stars faced similar situations. Kim Ah-Joong fainted twice, while shooting 별난여자 별난남자 (The Bizarre Bunch), and Kim Ok-Bin had the same problem while working on the interesting new KBS Drama 안녕하세요, 하느님 (Hello God). Now even Moon Jung-Hyuk and Han Ji-Min were added to the list.
The Shinhwa member-turned actor and young star were shooting a stunt scene for the 3rd Episode of MBC's 늑대 (Wolf), in the neighborhood of Jong-Ro. Moon was shooting a scene where his character tries to protect Han from an incoming car by covering her. But at the end, because the car lost control, he was hit strongly by the impact. People from MBC commented they're still not sure how this will affect the shooting of the show, but it seems Moon hurt himself more than expected (neck, back and knees in particular). After undergoing MRI, Moon will probably have to go through surgery, and there's a big chance he'll have to rest a lot longer than expected. Han hit her head, and suffered no serious injuries, but she's receiving treatment as a result of the big shock. Of course the Drama is the smallest of concerns now, but as 6 scenes for Episode 3, and the majority of Episode 4 still have to be shot, there's a good chance next week they'll show repeats or something else entirely. MBC commented that, since the health of the actors is the most important thing, they'll have to look at that first, and then decide.
If this accident doesn't show Drama producers have to start shooting the ENTIRE show before broadcast, I don't know what will. Between super-pro Kim Jung-Eun going crazy over 루루공주 (Princess Lulu)'s schedule, the various little fainting accidents on several Daily and Weekly TV Dramas, and something a little more serious like this, it's the health of the actors they should care about. Of course, Drama producers tend to shoot shows 'on the fly', so that they can make little chances based on the show's response (add or take off episodes based on popularity, change endings, etc.). We wish a speedy recovery to Han and Moon, and hopefully this bad day will bring 'Wolf' some luck in the future. It certainly needs it. Maybe MBC needs a shaman? How can a station be so unlucky...

nasib baik eric tak kena bedah.... cuma dia kena tahan 4 minggu....
UPDATE 1/22! Eric's waist and ankle joint have a problem. The disks of the 3rd, 4th, and 5th lumbar vertebrae move out of position. Surgery is not need, but 4-week physical therapy and drug treatment are required.

Moon Hospitalized After Car Accident

Moon Jung-hyuk, actor and member of the boy band Shinhwa, was hospitalized after a car accident Sunday but ``is going to be fine,'' according to his management company Monday.
Good Entertainment said the 26-year-old actor and singer injured his spine and ankle. He will have to be in a cast for four weeks and receive physical therapy for the following four weeks, the company said.
The accident occurred on the set of the MBC miniseries ``Wolf.'' Moon was shooting a scene with actress Han Ji-min when a stunt car hit him. According to witnesses he embraced Han in an effort to protect her.
Moon, who is also known as Eric when performing with Shinhwa, was rushed to Seoul Baik Hospital in downtown Seoul.
With Moon unable to take part in productions, MBC said that it would not be able to broadcast the show抯 fourth episode that was scheduled to air tonight.

Eric Hurt in Gallant Attempt to Save Han Ji-min
K-pop singer-cum-actor Eric and actress Han Ji-min, both starring in "Wolves", were slightly injured when they were hit by a stunt car while shooting the MBC TV drama near Namdaemun in Seoul on Sunday. The two stars were treated at a nearby hospital.
Eric's agency Good Entertainment Group said the driver of the car, which was supposed to run toward Eric and Han Ji-min and stop in front of them, presumably misunderstood the signals and ran at them at a speed of 40 km/h without stopping. Eric performed a gallant fling-yourself-at-the-girl-and-fall-out-of-the-car抯-way maneuver, according to the agency -- which was indeed what he was supposed to do in the scene. Eric plays Han抯 secretary.
Due to the accident, MBC-TV will break the Monday and Tuesday schedule for the soap. The third episode will be aired on Monday as scheduled but the fourth episode on Tuesday will not. MBC said it will substitute the fourth episode with another show, while the episodes on Jan. 30 and 31 will also be replaced with special programs for Lunar New Year's holidays.

Stars of TV drama 'Wolf' injured in car accident
Moon Jung-hyuck and Han Ji-min, the main actors of a new MBC drama, "Neukdae (Wolf)," were injured yesterday in a car accident during the filming of the series.
According to Moon's manager Lee Jong-hyuk, the two were acting in a scene where Bae Dae-chul (Moon) saves Han Ji-su (Han) from a car accident, but the car that was supposed to stop right in front of them failed to stop and hit them.
They were thrown up in the air before hitting the ground. They were immediately carried away to nearby Inje University Seoul Paik Hospital, where they are both being treated.
According to the hospital, Moon, also known as Eric from popular boy band "Shinhwa," doesn't need immediate surgery, but has to rest at least for four weeks as his right ankle and spine are damaged.

Han, a promising young actress, is said to be unable to move her head and it is painful for her to eat or drink. "She doesn't need an operation, but she seems to need a thorough examination as she says that she has double vision," said a hospital official. The injuries caused by the accident are expected to have an effect on the popular drama which airs every Monday and Tuesday night. MBC consequently has decided to have "Best Theater" and other programs fill in "Wolf" for two weeks.
