Hallyu Heroine Returns With New Drama

Actress Choi Ji-woo (최지우 ), popular in Japan where she is affectionately called "Ji-woo Hime," (Princess Ji-woo), is coming back to her Korean fans.

She will perform in the MBC drama, "Air City" that will air in May and June, breaking a three-year hiatus.

Her last performance on television was in the SBS drama, "Stairway to Heaven" three years ago, in which she starred with actor Kwon Sang-woo.

She will play a heroine, "Han Do-kyong," an aspiring executive at an airport corporation who speaks five foreign languages. The heroine suffers a trauma involving her family.

"We've decided that Choi is appropriate for the role," said HB Entertainment, which is involved in the production.

The story revolves around various incidents at the airport such as drug smuggling and passport  
counterfeiting.

Actor Lee Jung-jae is a strong candidate to be Choi's counterpart, according to HB Entertainment.
Shooting will begin early this year and will be broadcast on weekends on MBC in May and June.

Choi has a large fanbase in Southeast Asia including Japan because she co-starred with actor Bae Yong-joon, better known as "Yonsama" to Japanese fans, in "Winter Sonata" in 2002, which was a smash hit in Asian countries.

Choi also starred in "Everybody Has Secrets," acting with Lee Byung-hun.
Her roles in "Beautiful Days" (2001), "Winter Sonata" (2002) and "Stairway to Heaven" (2003) boosted her popularity throughout Asia.

In my opinion, MBC would usually cater to (....how shall I say???)  audiences that's between the age group of mid 20's ~ 30's .  

We have different viewers ( different age groups) hence, different viewing interests and the mood also plays a particular part.

Arent we are lucky to have KBS / SBS & MBC ?

But then again, it's good to have Ji Woo Hime in this drama  & with MBC.  

I just came from MBC 's 90 days , the time for love (Starring Kang Ji Hwan & Kim Ha Neul) ........ loved the drama despite the low ratings ... it managed to make me cry and a lot too !


Let's all look forward to this drama.

최지우가 MBC 드라마 '에어시티'로 3년 만에 안방극장에 복귀한다.

'에어시티'는 2년 간의 기획 끝에 제작되는 대작드라마. 인천국제공항을 배경으로 공항에서 일어날 수 있는 다양한 에피소드를 실감나게 그려갈 예정.

최지우는 극 중 인천국제공항공사 운영본부 운영처 실장으로 5개 국어에 능통하며 일에는 철두철미한 한도경 역을 맡았다. 한도경은 한편으로는 평탄치 않은 가족사로 상처를 안고 살아온 인물이기도 하다.

최지우는 "대본을 읽고 극 중 한도경이란 캐릭터에 완전히 빠져들 정도로 매력을 느꼈다. 오랜만에 안방극장에 복귀하는 것인 만큼 그간 보여주지 못했던 새로운 모습을 시청자들께 선보이고 싶다. 벌써 기대감에 흥분된다"고 전했다.

'에어시티'는 '주몽'의 최완규 작가와 '거침없는 사랑'의 이선희 작가가 공동으로 극본을 집필 중이며, '제5공화국'의 임태우PD가 연출을 맡았다.

공동제작사인 HB엔터테인먼트 측은 "'에어시티'는 2년간의 기획 과정과 약 10개월여에 걸쳐 이루어진 사전취재를 바탕으로 한 대작이다"며 "이미 상당 부분 사전 작업이 완료된 상태이다. 올 초 크랭크인하여 상반기 중 방영을 목표로 제작 중이다"고 전했다.

Korean renowned actor and actress, Lee Jung Jae and Choi Ji Woo were selected to lead MBC's new drama "Air City".  

On 26 January, the production company announced that both of them have started rehearsing the scripts in the afternoon.

This is Choi Ji Woo's first drama after 3 years, her previous drama - "Stairways to Heaven" was produced in 2004. This is also Lee Jung Jae's return to the small screen after 8 years.  His last drama was "White Night 3.98

[OSEN=박미애 기자]'개콘' 스타 김준호가 최지우, 이정재 출연으로 화제를 모으고 있는 드라마 '에어시티' [이선희 극본, 임태우 연출 ]  에 전격 출연한다. 김준호의 드라마 출연은 '달콤한 스파이', '얼마나 좋길래'에 이어 세 번째.

김준호는 극중에서 태만이라는 이름의 환경관리 팀장 역을 연기, 공항운영실장 역을 맡은 최지우 [도경 역 ]와는 직장상사와 부하직원의 관계로 극의 감초 역할을 톡톡히 할 셈이다.

최근 전체 대본리딩에 참석했던 그는 "실제로 보니 이정재와 최지우는 정말 연예인 같더라. 이정재는 남자가 봐도 멋있었다"고 이정재와 최지우에 대한 첫인상을 말했다.

이어 "드라마와 코미디와 비슷한 것 같아도 다르다. 드라마는 템포가 느리고 감정 연기가 중요한 데 비해 코미디는 순발력과 재치를 필요로 하고 템포가 빠르다. 리딩연습을 할 때도 대사를 빨리 읽는다고 감독님께 지적받았다"며 그런 차이가 호흡이나 템포의 완급을 조절하는데 도움이 많이 된다고 덧붙였다.

'에어시티'는 인천국제공항 개항 6주년을 맞아 공항을 배경으로 제작되는 드라마로 국가정보요원 남자 주인공과 공항운영실장 여자주인공이 주축이 돼 이야기를 그려낼 예정. 여자주인공 역에 최지우가, 남자 주인공 역에는 8년 만에 안방극장으로 복귀하는 이정재가 맡아 눈길을 끌고 있으며, 올 상반기 MBC를 통해 방송될 예정이다.

Actor Lee Jung-jae and actress Choi Ji-woo have been named the face of Korea抯 Incheon International Airport.

Incheon International Airport抯 President Lee Jae-hee appointed the two stars as honorary ambassadors

at an Appointing Ceremony held at its headquarters

( Public Corporation Grand Hall, Incheon Airport ) on Monday - 5th Feb.2007






The airport said it appointed the two stars because it believes they can contribute to raising the brand value

of not only the airport but also the country itself as they have been cast to play

leading roles for the country抯 first airport drama, 揂ir City.

A NEW ADDITION IN THE CAST

           

The newly cast up-coming actor, Lee Jin Wook will star in Air City with top stars, Lee Jung Jae and Choi Ji Woo.

Lee Jin Wook will be playing the role of Kang Ha Joon who is Han Do Kyong's (Choi Ji Woo) childhood friend, holding a post of an office management team leader at Incheon Airport. Kang Ha Joon will get himself entangled in a love triangle with Han Do Kyong and Kim Ji Sung (Lee Jung Jae).

Lee Jin Wook who acted alongside with Son Yeh Jin in "Alone In Love" was a fresh K-actor who earned a recognition for his major debut and later went on to win the hearts of viewers (SBS Newstar).

Last year itself, he was involved in two dramas and after "Alone In Love", he got a role as a baseball player in "Smile Again", .....again collaborated with one of the top female K-stars, Kim Hee Sun.
