Mz. Park (the matchmaker) visits Kyeong-Woo (Yoon Sang-Hyeon)'s mother, Mz. Kang (Park Won-Suk), and Mz. Kang complains perhaps Yeong-Eun (Park Seon-Yeong) isn't interested in her son since she decline his invitation to meet when he called her, so Mz. Park goes to see Mrs. Jeong (Yoon Mira) and says if YE isn't interested she'll match KW with some other woman instead, and Mrs. Jeong gets anxious, especially when a package comes for YE from DH (Lee Tae-Gon). DH sends YE a sweater and when he calls YE laughs as she says it's way too big and asks him not to waste his time buying her stuff when he's already working so hard, but DH says it's what makes his business trips fun for him. Just then Mrs. Jeong comes to talk to YE and YE hurries to hang up, then opens the door for her, but Mrs. Jeong sees the sweater and looks unhappy, then tells YE not to trouble DH with these errands.



Jeong: Mz. Park told me the groom-to-be is very happy with you, so if he calls don't refuse him and meet him more.
YE: But I'd like to stop seeing him.
Jeong: That's not how you should be. Mz. Park was there last time and how can you determine anything with just one meeting.
YE: But I have no wish to marry him, so seeing him again would be..
Jeong: Is it because of that promise you made with Do-Hyeon?
YE: No.. not that.
Jeong: Are you going to lie to me now?
YE: (looks down)
Jeong: It's true that you and Do-Hyeon made some promise before he left, right?
YE: yes.. but you needn't worry about it. What you might worry about will not happen.
Jeong: with what? With what would I trust you? I want you to get married before Do-Hyeon comes back.
YE: Ma'am! That..
Jeong: You'll have to do that.
YE: (deep breath) I don't wish to marry yet.
Jeong: You may think that I'm being extreme, but from my stand point this is what I must do.
YE: --
Jeong: I didn't want to tell you this, but they say if Do-Hyeon marries you he'll have a short life.
YE: !
Jeong: If you really want the best for Do-Hyeon, then marry at once. I have nothing else to say.



YE spends the night weeping in her room, and next day she faints while at work, but KW happens to arrive looking for her, and treats her and takes her home. YE thanks him on the way, and KW says he's glad to be present just at the right time, and when they arrive, Mrs. Jeong tells the maid to invite KW in and Mrs. Jeong says she just wanted to thank him, and she believes YE is blessed to meet someone great like him, and how they look great together. Mrs. Jeong then goes on and brags about YE infront of KW, and YE feels sick to her stomach afterwards. KW goes home and tells Mz. Kang that the Jeong's seem to really cherish YE, and Mz. Kang says at least they don't think of YE as a burden or baggage. Next day, it's aunt ES's gallery opening, and Jinah shows up and congratulates YE for her pending marriage with Dr. Ju (KW), and both YE and ES appear shocked. ES says she didn't know things have progressed that far, but Mrs. Jeong cuts it short by saying there's nothing to decide on. Jinah then tells Mrs. Jeong infront of YE that she'll be going to Shanghai soon and will be spending some time with DH there and YE is bothered by the news. JN then asks YE if this means she'll quit about studying abroad since she's getting married, and YE declines to answer. That night YE chats with DH and tells him she's decided to stay put for a while. DH then calls.



DH: what happened?
YE: I just thought it would be lying to the mr. and mrs. otherwise.
DH: I thought we've already made a decision.
DH: did mom say something to you?
YE: no. I just think it's better to wait til you get back and we can be honest with them.
you're busy with work too right now..
DH: what you're saying makes sense, but why am I so mad?
YE: use that energy on work instead.
DH: heh.. fine I got it.



Thus, YE begins to see KW, and KW takes her to his home without telling her first, and YE tries to get out of it, but Mz. Kang comes out and YE has no choice but go in. Mz. Kang is happy by YE's presence and feels YE's hand and says it's cold, and she must bring YE to their home as soon as possible, so she can take better care of YE. Mz. Kang then says she feels like it's fate, and she feels like meeting YE is like finding a long-lost daughter, but Mz. Kang's maids appear unconvinced. At the Jeong's Mrs. Jeong hears news that YE went to the KW's home, and how Mz. Kang is really happy by YE, and wants to meet formally to talk about marriage preparations. Mrs. Jeong tells YE that the other side wants to marry soon, and YE is startled and says she doesn't know KW very much and asks for more time, but Mrs. Jeong says this method is the best for both YE and DH. YE asks if there's another method, but Mrs. Jeong says no, and pleads YE to go through with it. Afterwards, YE goes to her room and tries to call DH in Shanghai, but DH happens to be busy site-seeing with Jinah and does not answer. That night, Jinah confides in DH she didn't really have a work related trip to Shanghai, but she forced her way here just so she can see DH. Jinah wonders if DH has some hidden woman somewhere since he's disinterested in marriage. DH walks JN to the place she's staying and says goodnight, but JN throws herself into his embrace and asks him to allow her to be by his side, and that she won't ask him to come to her, but she wants to go into his heart and she doesn't want him to stop her. JN continues to hug him and DH remains quiet. Meanwhile, YE continues to try to call DH as she drinks alone in her room. At last DH goes home and picks up the phone.

DH: hello? I was about to call you. My battery was out. What's up?
YE: I just wanted to hear your voice.
DH: Did you drink?
YE: Yes.. a little.
DH: Where are you right now?
YE: Home.
DH: What happened?
YE: nothing. I just had one drink.
DH: Really? nothing happened for real, right?
YE: You needn't worry about such thing.
DH: But you seem angry about something.
YE: No.
DH: See. That's your angry voice.
YE: I said not to worry. I dislike myself more that I only make you worry all the time.
DH: (laughs) Fine. Okay.. but call me often to tell me nothing happened, okay?
YE: Okay.. I said I got it..

YE hangs up and says to herself, "Oppa, I feel that I'm a fool.. but I can't resent it.. This is all I can amount to.. so what am I to do..".. Next day, YE goes to the hospital and runs into Jinah who tells YE about her trip to Shanghai and how she spent the whole day with DH. KW arrives and says he's so surprised and delighted that she called. YE says she has something to say...



YE: There's something I didn't tell you, but I think I should tell you first before we have our formal marriage meeting. I once got out of a marriage promise, and it was only 3 months before the wedding too.
KW: --
YE: And meeting you was only a month after the incident.
KW: so?
YE: Is that alright?
KW: I'm sorry. Was that why you asked to meet?
YE: I felt like you should know. I felt like you were deceived, and...
KW: It's alright. I already know. I don't care about what happened to you before you met me.
YE: ---
KW: I should fess up too in that case. I told you that I went on matchdate once before you, right?
YE: ---
KW: Actually, I met her a few times afterwards with intention for marriage, but we broke up due to differences. Is that alright with you? What difference is there between yours and my past? The important thing is that you and I are here like this right now.
YE: --
KW: I want to marry you, and I hope you feel the same.
YE: --
KW: Oh. I wasn't planning on saying it like this.. I'm sorry.



KW and YE then go see a musical, and during the performance KW grabs her hand, and afterwards, he thanks her for showing him a place like this since this is his first time coming. Just then YE sees her ex-fiance Ji-Hong with a new woman and YE tries to walk away, but JH runs up and says hi to her, and says YE moves faster then he thought. KW asks JH who he is, but JH says to ask YE about him, and JH then says now he understands YE was two-timing and dumped him to be with KW. YE is startled by it and JH leaves saying he's scared of getting beat up by YE's family, but YE is left shaken. KW escorts her to this car and asks her to get in, but YE apologizes and KW asks if he was that guy, and YE nods.



KW: I can tell what kind of a guy he is already. (puts hands on her shoulder) Look at me. You don't need to apologize again. Let's just think about us. Can you promise me that?
YE: (nods)
KW: (hugs her)
YE: thank you.
KW: and you don't need to say thank you. Just be by my side like this..



Next, KW and Mz. Kang meets with Mrs. Jeong and YE, and Mz. Kang goes on about how pleased they are with YE, and when YE doesn't say much, Mrs. Jeong speaks for her, and says YE doesn't talk much, but she is most kind-hearted. Mz.Kang then asks if they could have the wedding before the year end, and Mrs. Jeong says that's a great idea and that they can arrange all the preparations in time. Afterwards, Mz. Kang complains to KW about Mr. Jeong not being there and she wonders if there's a story behind it. KW says he went abroad, but Mz. Kang says if they really think of YE as a daughter that wouldn't happen, but KW continues to say it's because they didn't have much time. Mrs. Jeong tells YE she is blessed to meet such a nice guy and mother-in-law, and Mrs. Jeong reminds YE all she needs to do is to keep her mouth shut, and YE says she understands. YE continues to work at her job, and finds herself aching in her heart, and YE says to herself, "I wish for my heart to harden.. so one day I will no longer feel my heart ache"... Just then DH calls and YE gathers herself and answers the phone, and tells DH everything's fine. DH asks if the ring he gave her is too big for her since he had a dream about her and it was so clear that it didn't feel like a dream, and the dream had her and another man sitting in a 70s looking cafe, and there were others around them too, and DH was there but YE threw her ring at him and says it was too big. YE cries silently as she listens but tells DH that's just a silly dream, and DH is comforted, and tells YE he loves her. YE feels herself gasping, and DH asks her to say 'I love you' too, but YE says there are ppl around her and DH hangs up after telling her to eat well and sleep well. YE hangs up as well and falls to her knees as she trumbles and shakes.... Later, YE brings Mr. Jeong some tea, and Mr. Jeong asks YE if she needs anything else, but YE says she's thankful and she doesn't need anything and Mr. Jeong says she needn't be thankful..



Mr. Jeong: Does DH call you?
YE: sometimes.
Jeong: he's been very busy he won't be able to come back for your wedding I'm told.
YE: yes.
Jeong: Yeong-Eun.. I think if you don't want this marriage then you don't need to go through with it.
YE: --
Jeong: You can go and study in Milan like you wanted. I'll send you.
YE: No it's okay.
Jeong: Are you sure?
YE: Yes. You don't need to worry about me.



YE then meets with HJ (heejin) and HJ is shocked at how fast things are progressed, and YE says this is how things work in promiment familes. HJ asks when DH is coming back, and YE says in a couple of months he'll be back, and she needs to marry before that. HJ is speechless, but YE continues to put on her smiley face and tells HJ she's not pretending to be a fool, rather she is really a food, and she's envious of smart ppl who say what they want, but she's not like that, and the world isn't all full of smart ppl only. HJ asks her if she'll be alright, and YE says she will be, since her heart is hardening and soon when it becomes a rock she'll really feel nothing.  At this HJ says nothing and next day she tags along when YE and KW get their wedding photos taken at the studio. HJ goes to her mom's eatery and tells her mom and brother YE will marry soon. HJ's mom asks HJ if YE is getting back together with her ex, but HJ keeps on drinking and says YE has gone nuts. HJ then says it's a different guy, and this time it's a doctor. HJ says YE is paying back the debt she feels she owes to the Jeong's by getting married.  



Next, Mz. Kang takes YE to the jewelry store to buy a new necklace and Mz. Kang gets out a ring from her mother-in-law and gives it to YE. The two go and have some tea together, and Mz. Kang tests YE by asking if YE wants to live with her too or if she wants to move out with KW, and when YE says she wants to move into the family Mz. Kang appears overwhelmed and grabs YE's hands and thanks YE for treating her so nicely...

Expensive jewelry is sent to the Jeong's for YE, from KW's mother, Mz. Kang, and the Jeong's are impressed while YE sighs quietly. After thinking back and forth, Hee-Jin calls DH and tells him she's calling because she fears he doesn't know about YE getting married and she can't answer any questions nor does she want DH to tell YE it was she who called, but she feels uneasy letting YE marry without DH finding out first thus she's decided to call. HJ hangs up and DH tries to call but she doesn't answer. DH is left puzzled and upset, and calls aunt ES and asks whether it is true that YE is getting married, and ES says she has nothing to say and asks DH to call his mom instead. Meanwhile, YE gets a facial and turns on the phone and hears DH's message asking her to call him immediately and to explain about her getting married. YE hears it and gasps but does nothing except to turn off her phone because she does not know how to lie to him anymore, while DH rushes back to Korea and shows up at the gallery as soon as he arrives. YE isn't there today, and the aunt tells DH it is true that YE is getting married, and DH insists on finding out where YE is. Aunt ES says she doesn't know exactly where but she could be at the massage studio. As DH leaves, the aunt says YE had no choice, and DH asks her to keep his presence in Korea a secret and ES agrees. DH finds YE as she leaves and he grabs her and takes her to the riverside.



YE: because I thought this was for the best.
DH: best of what?
YE: I can't hurt others just to please myself.
DH: say it so I can understand.
YE: I said to you last time too, we cannot be together.
DH: I don't need anything else. Just our promise.
YE: You have too much to lose.
DH: did I tell you to worry about that? why are you so full of fears? Why won't you have any confidence?
YE: I fear someone dying more than anything else. Even my parents I believe it was my fault.
DH: Why are you making nonsense? Did someone say I was going to die?
YE: !
DH: did Mom say that?
YE: I don't want others to be in pain because of me.
DH: but it's okay if I am? and you're alright even so?
YE: I'm fine, oppa. I'm alright.. almost.. so now all there's to do is for you to endure it. no, I wish you'd understand me.
DH: how?
YE: it's already an impossibility.
DH: you.. are a scary person.
YE: I might be.... Won't you go home?
DH: No. no one knows I'm back, except aunt.
YE: I'm sorry.
DH: tomorrow come to me. it's alright even if you don't have a visa. We're gonna get on a plane no matter what it's headed. come to me at the hotel tomorrow.
YE: that's nonsense.
DH: you're the one who started to talk nonsense first.
YE: oppa!
DH: I'll call you with my hotel info.
YE: it won't happen.
DH: tomorrow at 11'o clock.



DH checks himself in a hotel and calls YE with his hotel info. YE answers and DH tells her he's in room 503, and tomorrow at 11 he will be waiting and she should only pack lightly so no one catches on. YE says there's no need but DH hangs up. YE then goes and drinks tea alone to think through, and that night YE packs a suitcase and looks at her passport, when the aunt comes and asks YE if anything happened. YE says the aunt needn't worry, and DH will be leaving tomorrow. ES asks if that's it, and YE says yes, and ES says she won't ask anymore, but tells YE to keep it a secret that DH was back. Next day around 10am, YE head out and Mrs. Jeong tells YE to stop by the company on her way to massage, since Mr. Jeong asked to see YE. YE goes to Mr. Jeong, who hands her an account book worth about 400k usd (4 eok won) which came from investment of original money from YE's dad's assets that were left at his death. Mr. Jeong asks YE if she agrees to let him continue to manage her funds, and YE agrees. Mr. Jeong then gives her an envelope of money for her to use for her wedding, saying they will decline gift money at the wedding. YE says no one will give her money at the wedding anyway and tries to refuse the money from Mr. Jeong but he insists and YE accepts. Mr. Jeong then says with her wedding tomorrow, she will be leaving his home, but she is to promise her that if something difficult ever happens to her she must come tell him. YE nods and heads up and sends the driver away, saying she will go and meet with a friend. DH waits at his hotel, and it's past 11:30 already and he's getting worried, but YE calls and says she's waiting at the coffee shop downstairs and asks him to come down, but DH orders her to come to his room instead.


DH: I thought you wouldn't come. Here, sit down...
YE: (sits)
DH: It's been hard for you. Would you like some water? Wait a bit..
YE: (tense)
DH: here.. drink. (smiles) why? you're not drinking.
YE: (drinks)
DH: ah. would you like to eat something?
YE: no it's okay.
DH: I haven't ate either. we should eat something before we go.
YE: oppa..
DH: Oh we should check for seats first. or we could go to the airport and do it.
YE: oppa. I'm not going.
DH: --
YE: (returns the ring) I'll live well this time. Oppa, you should put an end to it too and forget it.
DH: no! I can't do that.
YE: Don't be like that.
DH: we have to go together.
YE: I can't. Do you really want me? Do you really want to be with me forever?
DH: Are you joking right now? Why do you.. hurt me so much?
YE: Do you hurt as much as I do? Have you thought of what you will lose because of me? If you must leave with me I can go, since I have nothing to lose, but can you lose your parents and the company?
DH: What are you talking about?
YE: Can you throw everything you have? If so then I can go. At once.
DH: You can think so extreme if you choose.
YE: This is what must become of us. This is the best I can do.
DH: What do you think you know?
YE: Think about it clearly. It's the reality that both you and I already know.

With these firm words, YE leaves DH, and after a moment DH goes after her, storming frantically down the stairs to catch up to her, then grabbing her hand and pulling her into his car. YE asks where he's taking her, and DH replies home, and YE pleads not to.

DH: If I must I can give up everything. I can start over with bare hands if it's with you. Is that enough?
YE: tomorrow is the wedding.
DH: I will try to persuade mom and dad first. If I can't then I'll give up everything.
YE: but what am I.. I'm blocking your future. No I might cause you misfortuned.
DH: What are you saying really?
YE: if that happens then not only you but all those around you will be misfortuned. I can't follow you to make you so.
DH: Are you really a moron a fool?
YE: I wish I were a moron a fool who can't think. I thought and thought til my head's about to explode. but it just can't be.
DH: Don't make it complicated. Just think of me. of us!
YE: I can't. So don't torment me anymore and just send me off.. for me.. (weeping). Tomorrow I must marry (nods). I must.. I have to. I must.
DH: (grabs her) Why are you like this? Look at me.
YE: Send me off peacefully. I.. am in hell..
DH: Yeong-Eun!
YE: just send me away..



Thus YE gets out of the car and walks in the pouring rain almost into the passing car, but DH stops her and calls her, but YE asks him to let her go and walks away, leaving DH standing still in the rain. YE shows up HJ's soaking wet and HJ makes her tea and gets her a change of clothes and asks about what happened but YE says she doesn't want to say anything today only she nods when HJ asks if it has to do with DH. HJ then confesses she's the one who called DH and YE though surprised says she understands. Meanwhile, furnitures for the newlyweds are delivered to KW's, and Mz. Kang carefully examines each item and calls around town to find out the price of each item just to calculate how much the Jeong's spent. DH shows up at the Jeong company and finds out Mrs. Jeong is in Jeju island for golf but will return the same night in order to make to YE's wedding tomorrow and DH then goes to the hospital and passes by the office that KW works from. Jinah passes by and wonders how DH is there and goes out for a drink with him later but DH remains solemn heavy in thought. Jinah lets Min-Hee know about DH being in Korea and MH then tells Mrs. Jeong who becomes frantic and anxious especially since DH isn't home. Next morning, DH shows up at the Jeong residence early and asks to speak to Mr. Jeong, but Mrs. Jeong says to have breakfast first and DH sits down with everyone and eats one or two bites and goes to Mr. Jeong's study and waits. Mr. Jeong comes in and DH says YE's marriage is not right. Mrs. Jeong rushes in and is frantic, and when DH reveals he and YE already promised each other for marriage Mr. Jeong calls YE in and asks her if she feels the same, and YE says no, and Mr. Jeong asks YE if she loves DH.

Winter Bird (Ep. 7) - Getting Married

When Mr. Jeong asks YE if DH is the one she loves, YE says no, and that she loves KW instead, and at this Mr. Jeong tells DH and YE the matter is finished and DH is to give his blessing toward YE's wedding. Then, Mrs. Jeong goes to DH's room and talks to him alone...



mom: yes, it's me who made things turn out this way.. and I know how much you're hurting and angry, but it's all for you.
DH: what's for me? for the sake of our family's honor? how is our family so great? or.. what do we lack that you wish for a daughter-in-law that outshines us?
mom: i know you resent me. i don't care if you think i'm materialistic because to me you are the most important person.
DH: then you should wish for me and Yeong-Eun together even more so. is there a reason why you don't want to see me with Yeong-Eun?
mom: yes.
DH: what?
mom: she's not suitable for you.
DH: is that yet?
mom: yes.
DH: how do you know if she's suitable for me?
mom: because i know! i'm not just saying this. she doesn't suit you! she's bad omen.
DH: stop!! you have killed me, mother, your son whom you cherish so much. do you understand?



DH storms out and next day he begins to pack up his suitcase to leave, while YE gets married to KW. During the ceremony, HJ's mom notices KW's mom, and afterwars tells HJ she's sure she saw Mz. Kang somewhere from before. DH comes by and watches from behind the crowd, and aunt ES spots him out and chases after him asking him to stay for a while, but DH says he'll just go and leaves. Jinah runs after DH who ignores her, but Jinah follows him to the bar and says she'll take him to the airport but DH says he'll take care of it himself and asks her to leave while he drinks alone. After the wedding, Mrs. Jeong tells Mr. Jeong it doesn't feel real and wonders if YE will live well, and Mr. Jeong says she has to. HJ's mom cries at home and says it's regrettable that YE's parents didn't get to see their daughter getting married, and HJ's mom keeps saying she saw YE's mother-in-law from before for sure.



Mz. Kang returns home and weeps nonstop about losing KW after all these years of raising him alone, but her chauffer and distant relative, Mr. Choi and his wife, Mrs. Choi who works in the kitchen try to cheer her up saying KW isn't gone she's gaining a daughter instead. Then suddenly Mz. Kang stops crying and asks about the wedding gift money and starts counting the money in te envelopes. KW and YE arrive at their honeymoon suit, and while KW waits, YE goes into the bathroom and cries alone. Meanwhile, DH spends the night alone in the cottage on the farm. Next day, at the airport, YE and KW are about to board a plane to go on their honeymoon, and DH stand behind them watching the two leave together.

Mr. Jeong tells Mrs. Jeong he wonders if he's made a mistake since DH is their only son and he's stubborn, but Mrs. Jeong says next month when DH comes back from China they'll marry him off with Jinah fast so he can forget it all, but Mr. Jeong says not to bring that up for a while. YE and KW return from their honeymoon and visit the Jeong's. Mr. Jeong talks to KW alone and says even though YE isn't his real daughter he raised her like his own, however YE probably doesn't see them as her real parents, thus her married home might feel like her real home in a long time, and Mr. Jeong asks KW to take good care of YE. Mrs. Jeong prepares lots of food gifts for KW's family and YE is touched and thanks her, and Mrs. Jeong says YE must live well. The newlywed then goes to KW's home and Mz. Kang asks YE if she dreamed anything while on honeymoon, and YE says no, and Mz. Kang says in that case YE must not be pregnant with a honeymoon baby, and YE looks startled, and Mz. Kang then says she was just joking seeing that YE isn't at ease. YE asks her to lower her speech but Mz. Kang says she talks politely to everyone always, however the Choi's and the maid don't look convinced.



KW is eager to spend time alone with YE giving her footmassage and being affectionate with her, but he is pulled away by his mother who is upset to hear that Mr. Jeong said nothing else besides asking KW to take good care of YE, and when KW comes home from work he is eager to be with YE and Mz. Kang who eavesdrops is overwhelmed with jealousy. Next morning, YE brings tea for Mz. Kang who asks to see YE's hands, and Mz. Kang appears to be greatly concerned that YE's hands are cold and says she will prepare ginseng medicines for YE soon. Mz. Kang then asks YE how much money the Jeong's gave her, and YE says she didn't get anything, since she already received plentiful having lived there all these years and going through education and all. Mz. Kang says there's no way that the Jeong's didn't give YE anything even if YE isn't their real daughter, and YE is taken back and says she was given a 10 million won (~ 10k usd) for spending money and Mz. Kang is surprised by the small amount and dismisses YE. YE is startled by the conversation, and replays Mz. Kang's words in her mind... a week passes by and KW asks his mom when she's gonna tell YE she can get out of her hanbok since YE isn't comfortable wearing it, and Mz. Kang looks upset but tells YE she should've said something sooner and tells YE she can get out of her hanbok.



That night Mz. Kang refuses to eat and YE watches as KW goes to lengths to cheer up his mom and YE begins to get a strange vibe about the dynamics of her new family. Next day Mz. Kang calls Mz. Park the machmaker to meet and hints YE isn't as great as she might turn out but Mz. Park tells her to wait and see. As Mz. Kang returns home she sees a new car delievered from the Jeong's and thinking it's for her she runs in and calls Mrs. Jeong to say thanks but when she realizes the car is for YE and not her or KW she is upset and says to YE she should drive the car since the car isn't suitable for KW. When KW returns home he is happy for YE about the nice new car, but Mz. Kang says they should change KW"s car too or else ppl might say they're not suitable to be inlaws with the Jeong's, and YE wonders what this all means.



Meanwhile, Mrs. Jeong tells Mr. Jeong YE's mother in law seem real nice, but Mr. Jeong says only time will tell since they can't know for sure what a person is thinking privately, while YE lays awake in bed wondering what she's walked into...

Mz. Kang continues to be upset about YE alone getting the car from the Jeong's and suggest YE is too high and mighty for their humble family, so much that she refuses to get massaged by YE while agrees to let DH do it, and YE is feeling uneased.  Meanwhile, DH returns to Korea and goes to the resort for a day or two, where he runs into Jinah. YE accompanies Mz. Kang to the car shop where Mz. Kang picks out a nice car for DH and tells the dealership she'll think about it and will call soon. Mz. Kang then gives the paperwork to YE and tells her to have a good time with the Jeongs. YE meets with Mrs. Jeong, aunt ES, and MH for lunch and YE tells them she was delayed because she was at the car shop picking out a new car for KW, and ES wonders if Mz. Kang is hinting they should buy the car for him, but Mrs. Jeong dismisses it and says Mz. Kang isn't that kind of person and she is plenty rich. Mz. Kang decides to pay Mr. Jeong a visist at his company and asks him to lend her 3 million bucks and says she'll pay back with interest, but needs the money right now to buy a new building, but since her two buildings are already used in a collatoral to purchase a farm she couldn't get a loan at the bank.  Mr. Jeong politely declines saying he doesn't even deal money with his own siblings to keep things straight, and Mz. Kang leaves, and later when she's in the car she is pissed.  At the resort, Jinah tells DH how she's upset over her 8 year old patient dying from terminal cancer, and DH comforts her by telling her a story written by a poet, in which a woman who is poor loses her husband while she is pregnant, and she becomes resentful toward God wondering why he would take away her good husband, but when the woman went to visit her husband's tomb, her husband's father was there and took her to a garden and asked her to pick a beautiful flower, thus she picked the prettiest rose and put it in a vase, and the father-in-law then told her like so, God wanted to decorate his kingdom with beautiful people and he picked among the people her husband who was the prettiest human. Jinah listens and tells DH now she really can't live without him.



Mrs. Jeong arranges for YE to take cooking lessons on Saturdays. Mr. Jeong who finds out through investigation that Mz. Kang lied about putting her buildings under collatoral and about wanting to buy a new building, becomes worried a bit about YE and calls her to ask her out for lunch, but YE says thanks and she has cooking class, so they agree on YE and KW going over to the Jeong's tomorrow night for dinner. Now that YE has started cooking classes, Mz. Kang used the oppotunity and sends Mrs. Choi the cook away, telling her to go and take care of her sick mother in the country. Then, Mz. Kang tells YE to make soft tofu stew, but when YE is done she tastes it and says it doesn't taste good and she detests soft tofu stew the most of all foods, and YE is left puzzled.  That night YE has a nightmare and cries in her sleep, and KW wakes her to comfort her and YE says she dreamed again the nightmare she always has, which is she is lost and cannot find her way home, and sometimes the dream has her waiting at the bus stop but the bus doesn't show, or she'll get on a wrong bus, or her home disappeares when she gets off the bus. At the Jeong's,  KW and YE eat with the family, including newly returned DH, and DH watches as KW takes extra care of YE. During dinner, Mr. Jeong asks KW if he thinks YE might be too bored at home, and Aunt ES uses the opportunity to suggest YE should come out and work again, but Mrs. Jeong says YE must be busy learning to be a homemaker. Then afterwards, Mr. Jeong talks to KW alone and asks him to take good care of YE, meanwhile downstairs YE is with Mrs. Jeong, who is in awe of the expensive gift of mountain ginseng that Mz. Kang sent with them. YE goes upstairs to take a look at her old room, and runs into DH on his way out.

DH: You look well.
YE: You too.
DH: Yup. Then I'd be going.



After the short exchange, YE goes to her old room and looks at her old stuff. On the way home, KW notices YE is in a solemn mood, and asks YE if DH is always so quiet, and YE says he's more quiet then not, and KW then says DH has a way of making people feel uneasy, but YE says he's not like that. Mrs. Jeong calls Mz. Kang and thanks her about the precious gift, but Mz. Kang says no such thing since YE is such a great daughter to them, and these days most girls won't want to live with their mother-in laws, but YE is different and thus she always tells her son KW to be good to YE so that YE will be good to her too.  Mrs. Jeong hangs up and tells Mr. Jeong how great YE's mother-in-law is, but Mr. Jeong says that is yet to be seen, and sighs then leaves the room to get a drink in the kitchen. Mrs. Jeong follows him and asks him if something unpleasant happened but Mr. Jeong says nothing.  When YE and KW return home Mz. Kang is in a jittery mood and asks about their visit, and asks if the Jeong's said anything and when YE says not much, Mz. Kang suddenly becomes glooomy and looks at the present from Mrs. Jeong and afterwards scoffs at the barley tea she got, when she sent mountain ginsengs.  Next day, while YE is out, Mz. Kang gives Mi-Jeong a envelope of money and fires her immediately. Mi-Jeong is startled and says she should at least give her a chance to find a new job first, but Mz. Kang tells her to leave immediately. Then, Mz. Kang finds out from her chauffer that the barley tea is actually a rare tea that is hard to find, and Mz. Kang calls Mrs. Jeong to thank her for the gift.  HJ gets a call from YE to meet and HJ rushes out but her mom asks her to ask YE about her mother in law and says she is sure she saw her before and reminds HJ to make sure ask YE where Mz. Kang used to live. HJ meets with YE, and YE gives HJ a bank account book and tells HJ to use it toward opening of her new store. HJ hesitates but YE pleads her and asks her to think of it as an investment.



Then afterwards, YE shops for groceries and returns home, when Mz. Kang puts on an act and says Mijeong suddenly left since her lover showed up and now she's so upset and worried about YE, and she really begged Mijeong to stick around until YE is ready to take things over, but Mijeong wouldn't stay. YE doesn't say anything, and Mz. Kang says she'll find someone soon and asks YE to be patient.  Mz. Kang then says she's going out for a while and asks YE to cook dinner. YE goes to the kitchen and finds a sinkful of dirty dishes and brings out her cookbook to plan dinner. Meanwhile, Mz. Kang goes to the spa to eat and to receive massage treatment. Later that night, Mz. Kang returns home late and says she's been busy but she's ready to try YE's cooking, and when YE presents her soybean paste stew, Mz. Kang tries it and says it's too salty and the tofu pieces are too large, and YE will have to learn to cook. That night, KW finds out the maid is gone, and KW says he'll talk to his mom about hiring day-laborers until they find permanent help, but YE says he should let his mom take care of it, and KW suddenly talks in a childish tone and says if he tells his mommy something then she's sure to listen, and YE is taken back and comments KW is like a baby at times. That night, KW goes to see his mom and asks her if she could hire a temp to help out with household chores and Mz. Kang gets pissed and slaps him across the head.

Mz. Kang slaps KW and shoots him out telling him to splash cold water on himself so he can a get clear mind. KW goes to the kitchen and drinks some alcohol, and goes back to the room and asks YE to stay still while he hugs her, saying he is only red on the face because he drank and nothing else. Meanwhile, Jinah and DH talk over drinks and Jinah guesses that the woman DH loves must be YE, and Jinah says though she is disappointed that she's not the one in his heart she can plenty understand why DH would love someone beautiful and graceful like YE, and DH doesn't want to talk more, but Jinah says she is only saying this to comfort him, and continues by telling him to her she treats all things that have happened in her life as good things that will only make her life better and tells DH he should try that, and DH says she's a strong woman. Next morning, Mz. Kang complains to YE about the dust on the TV set and instructs YE to wipe the dust everyday as well as cleaning the windows and the bathrooms and the guestroom, and not to forget to give the dog his food in the mornings, and also to make rib stew at night, and to make sure it's rid of all blood first. Then outside, Mz. Kang goes on about all the things YE is doing wrong with the laundry and not to use the machine but to wash by hand and to iron everything including the underwear. YE listens to each order and nods as she says yes. That night KW eats the ribs made by YE and says it's good and YE says it's all done according to Mz. Kang's instruction. Mz. Kang puts on a smile and tries the food and says YE is a great cook. KW asks about hiring someone and Mz. Kang says she's taking care of it and KW says yes then offers to do the dishes, but Mz. Kang says there are two women in the household and even if she has to do it herself KW needn't do so. KW says okay and Mz. Kang says how happy YE must be to have a husband who looks out for her, and YE says nothing, while KW laughs, oblivious to the sarcasm. YE is sleepless and KW tries to ease her tension by holding her to sleep and telling her nothing is wrong.



Then, next morning Mz. Kang goes to see Mr. Jeong again and asks him to lend her 2 million dollars instead since she really must buy that construction she wants, and Mr. Jeong asks why and Mz. Kang says it's for her son, and she already signed the contract but suddenly she is short on cash thus she came. Mr. Jeong sighs and says if she insists, then he will take one of her buildings as collatoral to lend her money, since he is a businessman afterall, and needs something concrete as security. Mz. Kang says she understands and wants to do so but since both of her buildings are already with the bank she couldnt' do so right now, and Mr. Jeong apologizes and says from his stance he couldnt' agree and asks her to understand. Mz. Kang says she understands and leaves, telling him she fully knows that there's nothing free in life. Mz. Kang storms out and DH who arrives sees her and asks Mr. Jeong why Mz. Kang came, and Mr. Jeong says not to be bothered by it and orders DH to focus on his work instead. DH goes back to his office and tries to call YE but decides against it soon after. Mz. Kang returns home in a mad frantic and begins to break all the stuff in her room, and YE who rushes to her from the noise is startled to find her in that state with broken glass and all, but Mz. Kang is out of breath but yells at YE to leave as she points toward the door. YE is shaken from it and rushes to the kitchen to get a drink of water but finds her fingers bloody from touching the broken glass. YE then goes to Mr. Choi and asks about what happened, and Mr. Choi the chauffer tells YE the truth about Mz. Kang going to meet Mr. Jeong. Then, Mr. Choi tells YE she should complain and get Mz. Kang to hire some help instead of suffering like this. YE goes to her room and wonders what in the world is happening.

Meanwhile, DH is at the gym trying to figure out what's going on with YE, and at the Jeong's, Mr. Jeong tells Mrs. Jeong she should check on YE. Mrs. Jeong says YE calls every 3-4 days and says she's doing fine, but Mr. Jeong says he feels they made a mistake. At KW's, Mz. Kang refuses to eat dinner, and infront of YE, she goes on about how she wanted to get a 5-story building for KW to start his own practice but it's not going well, and sites so and so's son already got a huge practice, but KW says he doesn't need that, and Mz. Kang looks at YE and says her son has no ambition. Then when KW and YE is alone KW says he doesn't know why his mom would put a hot mug on glass table causing it to break and says he wanted to help YE do the dishes but was scared of his mom watching so he didn't do it, and YE says not to offer that ever again. KW then offers to fetch some water for YE and runs out but is met by Mz. Kang at the door who's been eavesdropping and Mz. Kang drags him downstairs and complains but KW tries to cheer her up by watching a comedy show with her and by the time YE comes down the mother and son are giggling together, however as soon as YE arrives Mz. Kang turns sour and when YE offers to make her some tea Mz. Kang gives her the cold shoulders and says no, and KW quickly joins in saying he doesn't want any either in that case and YE gets another strange vibe.

MH sends tickets to a show to Jinah pretending it's from DH and DH runs into Jinah and is surprised but Jinah says it must have been MH's doing, then at dinner DH tells Jinah honestly that she should know that he has no intention to marry her at all and she should know that but Jinah says as long as DH doesn't have someone else by his side she's not leaving and he shouldn't be burdened by it but DH says he is and he doesn't want to see her hurt, but Jinah says she's already been hurt and so now it doesn't matter and asks him not to push her away, and DH should forget YE for YE's sake. DH goes home and tells his family not to set him up with Jinah anymore since he doesn't wish to marry her, but MH says according to Jinah over the phone she seems to think she and DH will continue to meet. DH goes up to his room and leans against his closet as he trembles over his feelings for YE.



Meanwhile at YE's, it's almost midnight and KW is still in his mom's room playing card games and laughing loudly, then when KW finally comes up to their room he affectionately apologizes saying his mom is too lonely and she's pitiful, but YE says everyday when KW comes home he spends the whole evening with his mom and must they live like this forever, but KW says in that case YE should join them instead and YE says he knows full well that his mom doesn't like it when she gets involved but KW says YE is wrong to think so low of his mom when she loves her so much like a daughter and YE is speechless. Then Mz. Kang knocks on the door and tells KW there's a wedding she wants to attend with him tomorrow since Mr. Choi is in the country visiting his wife, and YE can stay home and wait for an important package to arrive in the meantime.  Next morning as they are about to leave, Mz. Kang tells KW to go and bring the car to the front, and while he's gone, Mz. Kang drags a large sac of garlic and tells YE to peel them all so she's not bored and orders her to do a list of chores while they're gone. Then later that night YE is finally done with all her chores and watches as Mz. Kang spoonfeeds KW as the two watch TV, and YE goes up and textmessages KW to come up to talk. KW tells his mom YE asked to speak to him so he leaves her and Mz. Kang looks upset again.

In their bedroom, YE complains to KW that it's been a month but still no maid is hired, and KW says he feels bad too but YE should be patient and wait since his mom's taking care of it. Next morning, KW brings it up to Mz. Kang and she throws a fit saying she works hard too and yells at YE for putting a rice bowl out for Mr. Choi since he's not part of the family and YE is taken back by the loud yelling. Meanwhile, Mr. Choi's wife refuses to come back and work for Mz. Kang but Mr. Choi begs her to reconsider. When no one is around, Mz. Kang tells YE she lied to both her and KW about her past and accuses YE of having intimate relations with her ex-fiance and not telling them about it and YE is startled by it and says she's innocent but Mz. Kang refuses to believe it and threatens to tell her son about it.



Over at Hee-Jin's, HJ's mom suddenly remembers who Mz. Kang is and tells HJ she's the evil woman who forced HJ's dad out of business, and the stress killed him, and HJ's mom says YE is no different then being sent to a butcher house under that ruthless mother-in-law. That night, when KW comes home, Mz. Kang says she has to talk to him immediately and tells YE not to come near the room while they talk. Mz. Kang tells KW that YE's ex-fiance is spreading rumors about his and her intimate affairs and she's so embarrassed to meet people. As the two talk, YE is left alone in the room and as she sits infront of the vanity she stares at herself and tells herself to wake up and that this isn't a nightmare and she must face it without being a fool. But KW gets pissed and goes to the room and takes a pillow and blanket to sleep in the study, and YE pleads to talk but KW ignores him, and YE falls asleep on the bed exhausted. Next morning she greets Mz. Kang but Mz. Kang ignores her, and KW also ignores YE and goes to work without breakfast. YE goes to the hospital around lunch time and calls KW to talk but KW refuses, and just then YE gets a call from DH to meet.



DH: Did you know your mother in law went to see father twice? Did you know?
YE: I heard about she seeing him once, but what is it for?
DH: I don't know but I was worried so I called you. If there's something making you difficult I thought it might be related. Do you have any idea?
YE: I don't know.
DH: I can't know? What it is that's making things hard for you?
YE: There's no such thing.
DH: Tell me. Your face says you're lying and you're trying hard to not look so.
YE: I don't want to.
DH: Is it because of your pride?
YE: I'm gonna endure it.
DH: Endure what?
YE: It's nothing big.
DH: But your face tells me it's very hard.
YE: (smiles) Oppa, I think for me human to human relations are the most difficult things. Especially with new people. I wonder if there's something wrong with me. I knew that but I didn't know it was this severe.
DH: You're not that way. WHy did you become so unsure about yourself.
YE: Do you really think so?
DH: Tell me what's the problem first.
YE: Just pretend like you don't know! It's my problem so I'm gonna solve it. I'm gonna think of it as a trial I must go through in my new environment.
DH: --
YE: The coffee is good.. From now on I'm gonna solve everything with my own strength. You can't help me anymore.

DH walks YE to her car and tells her if she's at a loss for strength then she can borrow his and his is always hers to use, but YE says that's not right, for KW or for the woman who will be by DH's side. DH says he understood and YE leaves, as he tells her to drive safely, and as soon as YE gets on the road she remembers DH's words that if she's out of strength she can use his.

Mz. Kang gets YE to do an insane amount of chores, incluing pickling of winter kimchees and canning of seafoods, and YE calls HJ's mom to ask for instructions but doesn't complain about anything. Mrs. Choi finally comes up from the countryside and gasps seeing how hard Mz. Kang is working YE and notices YE is burning a fever, and Mrs. Choi urges YE to go and rest. When KW returns home from work Mz. Kang sits him down for dinner immediately and Mrs. Choi uses the opportunity when a phone call comes through, to tell KW that YE is ill, and KW goes up and apologizes to YE and promises he will take care of things.



DH has been stopping at the bar everynight on the way home, and Jinah finds him there and tells him about the story that her 8 year old cancer patient told her. In the story, a little girl with bare foot is standing on the street outside a shoestore on a cold day, and a woman passes by and asks her why she's there and the girl says she's praying to God for a pair of shoes, and the woman who pities her goes into the store and buys the girl some socks and shoes, and afterwards the girl asks the woman if she is Mrs. God, as she holds her hand. JA tells DH this story and says at times everyone needs a warm hand to hold onto and says whenever DH is in need of her she will be that Mrs. God for him. Then JA drives him home and kisses him on the cheek and says that is for the cab ride. Meanwhile at YE's, KW stays by YE's bedside and blames her illness on him saying he was insensitive and hugs YE, but YE says she is unsure how KW truly feels, and KW says it's all because he has a hard time controling his emotions at times, but just then Mz. Kang interrupts them. KW sens her away in an angry voice and Mz. Kang gets pissed and horrified again.



DH asks aunt ES about YE and ES says YE calls regularly and she must be fine and DH should just forget about it and not care about it anymore, but DH says it's one thing if YE is happy but if she's unhappy then he is responbile for it since it is because of him that she had to marry like that, and ES says DH has some complex and urges him to forget it all. YE finds some solace in Mrs. Choi's presence and help around the house, and she asks Mrs. Choi if she could sneak out for a while and goes to meet DH, and asks DH if he could help her find out if her ex-fiance JH (Ji-Hong/ Jo Dong-Hyeok) is really spreading rumors about her.

YE: I'm not certain, but according to mother and KW it seems so.
DH: That can be verified if we look into it.
YE: If he's really doing that, please tell him to stop. I was going to tell Mr. Jeong, but I didn't want to bother him with such an issue..
DH: You did well.
YE: Once you find him tell him to be quiet, he's resonable to understand.
DH: (smiles) You worry about everything.
YE: (smiles) But I said I wasn't going to trouble you, that I was gonna take care of my own problems...
DH: See! You shouldn't talk ahead of yourself!
YE: I know. I could only think of you when I was trying to solve this.
DH: Is everything okay between you and him?
YE: ---
DH: I mean, does Kyeong-Woo give you trouble over this issue?
YE: No. There's nothing for you to worry over. It's just that it's not for the rumors to go around.
DH: I hope that's all.
YE: That's all.



Mrs. Jeong and Jinah run into DH and YE as the two walk out from the cafe, and Mrs. Jeong is shocked to see the two together and immediately pulls over and asks YE why she's meeting DH, but DH says they just happen to be in the same area at the same time and brushes it off as nothing, and YE greets them and leaves, as DH watches her leave. Meanwhile, at aunt ES's store, Aunt ES's spots her son Seung-Min (SM) who came back from Boston, and ES stops him and tries to show her concern for him, but SM seems bitter and remains aloof, but ES pleads his dad hid him from her, and she was not allowed to see him. SM says it doesn't matter and asks if he could work at her store.



After YE's sick incident, KW decides to take her to eat and calls her to come meet him at 5pm and the two go to a restaurant and KW calls his mom to tell her where they are, but Mz. Kang explodes and orders them to come home immediatley and the two return at once. Mz. Kang hits KW again and tells him she wasn't going to tell him this but his wife YE is a tainted bride who only pretends to be innocent. KW then gets in his madness and goes up to the room to argue with YE.

KW: How can you do this to me?
YE: What is it now?
KW: You deceived me.
YE: I didn't deceive you. Anything else? Don't accuse me of anything, I did no wrong.
KW: How can I be betrayed like hell. I had never been with a woman before marriage, do you know?
YE: --

Mz. Kang acts all concerned and tries to console KW but KW says she should know that he is sickly obsessive about cleanliness. YE rushes out to the car before KW takes off and YE tries to undo their misunerstanding but KW says there's no such thing and he was simply conned. Later, Mr. Jeong calls YE to check on her and YE lies and says everyone treats her nicely here and everything's great. Mz. Kang eavesdrops and is happy by the answers. Mr. Jeong asks DH about marrying Jinah, and DH says he wants to live with someone whom he loves, and Mr. Jeong says he understands but DH should put more effort into Jinah. Then, DH finds out from the company executive secretary about Ji-Hong, and how he's already out of the country. At lunch time YE comes to KW's at the hospital to talk over lunch, but KW doesn't want to see her, and YE says she'll wait at the lobby til he comes. KW hangs up, then Jinah passes by and says how nice that YE and KW can meet for lunch, but when she sees KW eating alone at the hospital cafeteria she senses something must be happening. JA then discloses it to MJ, who then tells her mom Mrs. Jeong that YE and KW might be having some issues, and DH who happens to walk by overhears it.

After getting stood up YE visits HJ and HJ's mom at the eatery, and HJ's mom says YE should move out with KW instead of living with KW's mom who must be difficult to deal with. When YE returns home, Mz. Kang suggests perhaps YE could go and talk to Mr. Jeong if she's so at a loss about how to make KW happy again. Then during YE's cooking class, YE gets call from DH, and when they meet DH tells her JH is already in the U.S. because he met a woman who is an American citizen. and thus JH couldn't have spread the rumors. DH becomes very concerned saying Mz. Kang and KW are making things up, but YE says it's nothing big.



DH: Should I meet Kyeong-Wu?
YE: No. Please. I'll take care of it. It's nothing.
DH: Then why are the rumors about your past an issue? Is he giving you trouble over it?
YE: No. It was an unavoidable situation. Let me take care of it myself.
DH: --- Are you happy?
YE: I am alive. Since I'm alive, I can have hope. I'm healthy and I have family now. I don't know about happiness yet, but I'm going to try hard. I can't force it but I can try hard at it.
