At the opening of KW's clinic, Mrs. Jeong, DH, JA, aunt ES, and MH all show up and Mz. Kang compliments about JA's beauty and says how great she looks next to DH. Mrs. Jeong compliments Mz. Kang about the clinic saying it's great, but Mz. Kang says it's not as big as she'd like but what can she do, and KW stops her as Mrs. Jeong and ES look unhappy about it. Then later, as the guests arrive putting money envelops in the giant piggy bank, Mz. Kang goes on and about how it's not as big as she wanted. Mz. Kang rubs it in more by telling Mrs. Jeong that what she really wanted was a hospital but she couldn't afford it and now she's so embarrassed to be greeting such precious guests in such a humble place. Throughout the event, YE remains quiet as she replays what Mrs. Choi acted out earlier in the kitchen. When the Jeong's return home, MH says Mz. Kang is such a strange person and wonders if YE married into a wrong family, but Mrs. Jeong stops her from speaking more. Mr. Jeong asks about YE andn Mrs. Jeong says YE looked pale but there's nothing they can do now. YE returns home and asks Mrs. Choi about the congratutory money again and Mrs. Choi confesses the day after YE found out she was pregnant, Mz. Kang and Mrs. Jeong met and received congratutory money. YE asks if KW knows and Mrs. Choi says of course he does because she only overheard it when Mz. Kang was bragging to KW about it. YE is astonished and Mrs. Choi tells her more by saying the money was used to build the clinic for KW. Mrs. Choi is surprised YE doesn't know about it, and goes on more to say Mz. Kang is already scheming that she'll get a lot more when the baby is born, then when the baby turns 3 months old, then birthday, then so and so, and YE walks uptairs like a zombie, and goes to vomit in the bathroom as she shivers. When Mz. Kang and KW finally return home, KW tells YE to draw bath water for Mz. Kang, but Mz. Kang says YE needn't worry about that and tells YE to sit with them. Mz. Kang asks YE why Mr. Jeong didn't come and YE says he was busy. Mz. Kang gets upset and says he could've at least called, and KW says the man's busy and offers to draw bath water for her and says he'll massage her legs afterwards. Mz. Kang then asks YE if she got any money envelopes from the Jeong's and YE firmly states there's no such thing, and Mz. Kang says she got it and goes to her room. YE goes upstairs and waits for KW to come, and asks KW if he's sure Mz. Kang has changed because of the baby, and not because of money, and KW says of course not and he's not lying to her, but YE mentions the congratutory money saying he knew about it too, and KW is startled by it and runs off saying he'll ask his mom about it since he didn't know.

KW runs downstairs and panics to his mom saying YE found out about the money, but Mz. Kang says she didn't get anything from the Jeong's today, but KW says the money from last time, and Mz. Kang says that was so long ago and KW insists she should return it to the Jeong's but Mz. Kang says that was nothing. KW then pleads she should never talk about money anymore or else YE won't wanna live with him anymore and Mz. Kang says KW is such a moron and plays lip service saying she got it, and KW runs upstairs next and is nervous about seeing YE so he decides to go downstairs to have a drink intead. YE comes downstairs to get a drink of water and ignores KW there, while Mz. Kang is counting all the money from the giant pig, and writes down what everyone gave her. When she finds an envelop from Mr. Jang, with only 100k won (~ $100 usd), she calls him and asks him if perhaps he made a mistake since he was going to a wedding too and maybe he switched the envelopes by mistake, but when Mr. Jang says no, Mz. Kang starts yelling saying he shouldn't be so cheap when she bought him an ac unit when he opened his business.

In bed, KW sees YE crying, and KW apologizes saying his mom said it's not wrong to receive congratutory money and that is how everyone in the republic of korea lives.



YE: I don't have big ambitions. I just want to be a good wife, a good mother, and a good daughter-in-law. That is all I ambition for. That is how I wanted to live and that is how I've been living thinking that is happiness.
KW: I'm sorry.. I'm sorry.. sorry.. YE....



Next morning Mz. Kang is on the phone again telling her friends to go see her son in his new clinic and spend some money to fix their skin flaws. Mrs. Choi brings some water to her and leaves, and goes to the kitchen to complain about Mz. Kang's endurance saying the same thing over and over without breaking a smile. Next Mz. Kang is on the phone with Mrs. Jeong thanking her for coming and offers to buy her a meal some time, but Mrs. Jeong says there's no need. Aunt ES asks Mrs. Jeong who called and Mrs. Jeong says it was Mz. Kang to thank them for coming, but ES says that woman's up to no good again and wonders how YE can last in that household. Mrs. Jeong says YE is just living the life that is destined for her, and asks ES if she has thoughts of remarrying, but ES scoffs and says she was married for 9 years the first time, then divorced, then remarried a year and half later, and divorced again and if she'd be crazy to want to marry again, but Mrs. Jeong says the first two marriages were due to bad luck. MH comes downstairs and ES tells MH she can marry 3 times since her her mom's changed a lot and Mrs. Jeong is irked.

HJ's ex-boss comes with delivery of clothes and HJ says he should've just send it by carrier and he complains she should give him a cup of coffee at least, and says he'll be gone for 3-4 days for business and wonders how HJ will live since she'll miss him so much. HJ's phone rings and it's her mom who got hurt. HJ and her ex-boss both show up at the eatery, and HJ's mom is impressed by him who shows a lot of care for HJ's mom and offers to take her to the clinic in his car. HJ's mom says they should go to KW's clinic in that case so they can take a good look at YE's husband. At the clinic, HJ's mom tells KW YE is like a daughter to her and asks KW to take good care of YE. Meanwhile, Mz. Kang arrives and asks the receptionist how much business they've had so far today and when HJ's mom comes out she sees Mz. Kang there and asks her if she's the woman who sold rice cakes about 20 years ago. Mz. Kang gets embarrassed and says HJ's mom is a crazy pinkberry, and the two women start cussing at each other, and HJ and her ex-boss finally drag her mom out, when KW comes out to calm his mom down. Mz. Kang complains this isn't a psycho ward that crazy woman shouldn't be allowed to come by.

HJ's mom says Mz. Kang is the woman who used to sell stuff at the market and collect daily loans, but Mz. Kang denies and throws a fit and after their fight is broken up by HJ's ex-boss and KW, HJ scolds her mom saying she's making the situation very difficult for YE regardless of whether or not she is correct and HJ's mom gets worried, and indeed Mz. Kang goes home and tells YE she should hang out with people suitable for her status as the wife of a clinic director, and that she should stop seeing HJ. YE also gets a call from HJ who apologizes about her mom saying she made a mistake and falsely identified Mz. Kang as someone she knew from before. KW comes home that day and complains to YE about how embarrassing it was at the clinic and how HJ's mom is so uncultured. That night Mz. Kang suffers a case of high blood pressure and KW checks her status but says it's not too bad, and Mz. Kang says she's merely suffering from exhaustion. KW then offers to stay by his mom while YE goes upstairs. YE checks up on them when KW doesn't come up late into the night and she's about to go inside but overhears Mz. Kang telling KW not to confess anything about her past if YE asks about it, and says everyone has a past and the past isn't important and all the rich people have a shady past. YE decides not to go inside and goes upstairs to think in bed.



DH has to work a lot and JA brings him homemade bento and says this must be happiness, and DH looks surpised and comments he thought she were more ambitious, but JA says he is already a big ambition to her, and at this DH studies her for a moment without saying anything. Meanwhile aunt ES's son continues to be down about his life, and ES tells her to look at the brighter side and think about all the things he has that others don't, instead of dwelling in the things he lacks. Mr. Jeong is excersing in the front lawn when he suffers heart distress and though he says he's alright, he is taken to the hospital where he will be monitored, but for now he is okay. DH rushes there and Mrs. Jeong gets scolded by Mr. Jeong for making a fuss, but Mrs. Jeong said MH must have called instead. Then JA is about to go check on Mr. Jeong when she sees DH pass by YE, who is also there to see Mr. Jeong, after learning about his condition when she called the Jeong's home. DH tells YE Mr. Jeong is alright and YE rushes to go see Mr. Jeong, but as she passes DH, DH suddenly asks, "So, are you happy".. and YE is surprised by it but turns around with a smiling face and tries to brush it off.

YE: I wonder when you'd stop asking me such questions.
DH: Are you burdened by it?
YE: ---
DH: are you?
YE: To be honest, half half. I'm burdened by it but half of me likes it that you're concerned about me.
DH: ---
YE: If you become totally unconcerned then I'd be sad, right? But.. now it's your turn to be happy.
DH: As long as you're happy then it's enough. Go now...

YE goes to Mr. Jeong's room while he's absent and YE offers to tend to Mr. Jeong overnight so Mrs. Jeong can get some rest, but Mrs. Jeong says if YE did that she'd get in big trouble with Mz. Kang. Just then Mr. Jeong returns from another checkup and seeing YE there he scolds Mrs. Jeong for announcing it to everyone but YE quickly explains she found out from the maid at Jeong's household. Mr. Jeong keeps asking YE if he looks strange and YE says no and when the nurse comes in to give him a shot Mr. Jeong appears scared by it and Mrs. Jeong covers her mouth and laughs. YE leaves and runs into JA in the hospital hallway and JA asks YE to help her.



JA: I never imagined I'd ask for this kind of help but right now I'm gonna put away silly pride and ask. I want to know Do-Hyeon's true feelings.
YE: Why would you ask me that.
JA: Because you know him the best.
YE: But it's his heart.
JA: I know Do-Hyeon likes you. I also know that he's got no choice but to put away his feelings for you now that you're married. But a person's feelings aren't that simple. If it's so easy to coordinate one's mind and heart then I wouldn't be here asking for you help. I wish to marry Do-Hyeon. Can I marry him? May I?
YE: Isn't marriage something decided among the ones getting married? If you want to marry and Do-Hyeon wants to marry then you get married isn't it? This question is rather strange, Jinah-ssi.. What right do I have to say yes or no?
JA: I want to know Do-Hyeon's feelings toward you. You must know something.
YE: Jinah-ssi. If he marries you, it will be because he loves you. He is that type of person. He is not one who can marry someone with someone else in his heart, be it me or not.
JA: Really?
YE: I trust Do-Hyeon to be so.
JA: Alast you're asking me to wait.
YE: That is your choice. Not something I have a say over.
JA: I can't get a clear grasp of his heart. He seems responsive and meets me, but at the same time I am getting more and more anxious and I wonder if at the end I've just wasted my effort. I wasn't going to say this much..
YE: He won't hurt you, then marry another woman. You should believe it. (gets up) I wait for good news then.

KW continues to be busy with his practice, and gets a visit from YE on her way back from the hospital and YE tells KW Mr. Jeong is hospitalized for some checkups. KW then decides to take YE out for dinner and calls Mz. Kang who is upset by it, but when Mr. and Mrs. Choi explain that YE had called earlier to let them know and Mr. Jeong might be pretty sick, Mz. Kang seems okay by it. KW and YE arrive at a restaurant and YE says she feels anxious and KW calls Mz. Kang infront of YE to get the okay again. At the hospital, Mr. Jeong tells DH and Mrs. Jeong not to make a fuss over his health, but he then tells DH he's gonna have to marry soon or else he might not be able to see it ever. Later, DH runs into JA and when JA tells DH she knows why he'd like YE, it is because she is nicer and smarter than she lets off, and DH tells JA she is nice and smart too and JA is giddy by it.



YE and KW return home and Mz. Kang tells them to sit by her. Mz. Kang scolds YE and KW for not going to see Mr. Jeong together, instead of having fun by themselves, and YE says she didn't think it was necessary since she already went to see him earlier and if they went again she was afraid that Mr. Jeong might get angry for making a fuss. However Mz. Kang starts to shout and says at his age, Mr. Jeong could croak anyday and YE made a big mistake and wonders if an adopted daughter doesn't count as a real daughter afterall. Mz. Kang tells the two to go upstairs, and Mz. Kang whines about YE being dense, since this is the time to throw your face in in order to get something at the end. YE apologizes to KW about the situation and says it was her fault, and KW hugs her and thanks her. Next day, KW goes to see Mr. Jeong alone and Mr. Jeong says he didn't need to come and he should go back to his clinic at once. KW agrees and leaves, and Mrs. Jeong scolds Mr. Jeong afterwards. Just then the phone rings and it's Mz. Kang on the phone and tells Mrs. Jeong how worried she's been and Mrs. Jeong says thanks and hangs up and comments Mz. Kang seems nice afterall, but Mr. Jeong says Mrs. Jeong is smart enough to know why Mz. Kang is really calling.

JA then comes in to check on Mr. Jeong and gives him two fancy cookies and Mr. Jeong says he feels like a kid getting treats. JA then gives a cookie to Mrs. Jeong too and after JA leaves, Mrs. Jeong tells Mr. Jeong how great JA is. Meanwhile, Mz. Kang tells YE to bring some homemade porridge to Mr. Jeong and when YE brings it to Mr. Jeong saying Mz. Kang cooked it himself, Mrs. Jeong says she needn't do that. YE says it's because she wanted to send something but didn't know what to send. Mr. Jeong continues to be in a bad mood and tells YE to go and tell Mz. Kang that he'll eat it well and sends YE away. Afterwards, YE makes a stop to see HJ and HJ asks YE about her appetite and YE says it's gotten a lot better. HJ says then she'll buy something yummy for YE and the baby, and says she wishes she could see the baby real soon, and YE gets solemn and says she must not be a good mother, because she is not really excited about the baby. YE then tells HJ about the money that Mz. Kang received, and YE says she really thought that it was because of the baby, but when she found out about the money, things fell apart for her and she didn't know what to think anymore. HJ says not to think too complicated about it, since the Jeong's did it for YE's good, and YE says she knows but she can't understand why her husband pretended to not know about it. HJ consoles her more and says for the baby's sake she should just focus on the good thoughts. YE says she knows but she feels so lonely and frustrated, and angry about her life like crazy.



That evening, Mz. Kang comes home giddier than ever, and Mz. Kang shows YE and KW paperwork about a purchase of cottage she made by the water. KW says they don't have that kind of money, and Mz. Kang says she just reserved it because KW should have one like the Jeong's and Mz. Kang then asks YE if Mr. Jeong liked the porridge and when YE says yes, Mz. Kang says she should visit the Jeong's more often so they can know about their situation too and to see if KW's clinic needs something and YE is speechless. Mz. Kang then asks KW in private about Mr. Jeong's condition, and when KW says it doesn't seem too seriosu Mz. Kang seems unhappy. Then after KW leaves, Mz. Kang starts to calculate how much YE might get from the inheritance and wonders why the Jeong's didn't just register her under their family like a real daughter. Meanwhile, Mr. Jeong and DH have some one-on-one talk at the hospital, and Mr. Jeong gives him some advice on life, saying before business and money, there's no eternity; a friend can become a foe over money, and a foe can save you over money. Mr. Jeong then tells DH it is time for him to forget about YE altogether and DH says okay.



At home YE knits something for the baby and when KW seems happy by it, YE tells KW she doesn't really feel like the baby's real, but KW says he can already communicate with the baby, and goes to her tummy and puts his hand on it and tells the baby he will be a good dad because he didn't have a dad growing up and longed for one. YE seems touched by KW's gestures, and they continue to talk in bed. KW asks YE about her real parents, and YE says her father ran a Japanese restaurant and her mother woke up early to help him, and she was popular in school because she always had special bentos that were different from other kids. YE continues to talk about her dad how he was always easy on her and she starts to tear up and KW hugs her and promises her he'll be a good father. At the hospital, JA checks on Mr. Jeong while he's asleep, and finds DH asleep on the sofa and JA pulls his blanket higher and leaves, and after she leaves, DH opens his eyes.

Winter Bird (Ep. 17): Complete Farewell



HJ's mom discovers Yura lives above them and is appalled to find Kwangwook's stuff at YR's rooftop flat, and HJ's mom gathers her son and YR and HJ to talk. YR isn't apologetic and says she and Kwangwook already lept together, back when they were in junior high, before she went to America for a while, and now they're together again and plan to marry. MH and JA have drinks together and MH says JA was dumb to talk to YE about DH's feelings, and JA says she knows but she's not sure how she got this way. Then MH says she understands, and she too did some pride-less things in the name of love. Mrs. Jeong tells aunt ES after Mr. Jeong was hospitalized, he asked DH to speed up his marriage and DH agreed. Then Mrs. Jeong asks aunt ES to help her with JA and DH, and ES reluctantly agrees, though she complains they are just repeating the same mistake as they did with YE.



ES meets with DH and JA, and ES says DH is the problem, and if he is sure that he doesn't want to marry or if he wants to marry but not JA, he needs to make things clear instead of wasting time because it is harmful to JA as well. JA tells ES not to make it sound so scary, but ES continues to scold DH saying he's not that great anyway and JA laughs. ES keeps on going and DH tells her it's enough and ES says one more thing, that marriage isn't a dream thus he should face it realistically, and not to be so picky with JA. DH says he's not being picky, and ES then tells JA she should just ditch him already. After their meeting with ES, JA and DH talk by the beach, and JA says her mom wants to invite him over for dinner and DH tells her he can't tell her that he loves her, and JA smiles and says even though she loves him she's not crazily in love with him either, and DH says it's a good thing, because that is not the kind of love he can do. JA says she is the same way and in that sense they are alike and compatible who will live well together because they won't get in big break-ups, but JA says she is different from him because he is afraid of love but she isn't and DH agrees to go for dinner at her home. DH then draws her to his embrace as the two look out to the ocean, and JA looks at DH and says it feels surreal.



It's saturday and KW is almost done with his practice and calls YE to go out to the movies since his mom is busy with the cottage stuff, and YE says she'll just dress and meet him, but as soon as they hang up, Mz. Kang comes home wailing and gasping. Mr. Choi calls KW to come home immediately and Mz. Kang passes out just as YE comes to her room, and Mrs. Choi spits water on Mz. Kang's face to wake her up. Then as it turns out the land Mz. Kang purchased wasn't the waterfront property that they showed her, and it was instead a swamp nearby that you can't built on due to it being environmentally protected, and even if she tries to sell it she won't even get half of what she already put in. KW can't believe his mom would fall for such con-deal, but he tries to console his mom, by telling her at least she didn't suffer any physical harm. However Mz. Kang continues to lay in bed in distress and KW spends the night by herside. Next morning, Mz. Kang cries aloud about her misery and KW promises her he will earn a lotta money to make her rich again. Mrs. Choi and YE listen from outside the bedroom and Mrs. Choi tells YE it's not like Mz. Kang is poor she still has a lot of income from her buildings. KW goes to work and tells YE to console his mom for him. Mz. Kang asks YE to go and fetch some medicine for her from the oriental doctor, and she tells YE to get some medicines for her as well since she's pregnant. While YE is gone, Mz. Kang tells Mrs. Choi to go clean in the kitche, and Mz. Kang sneaks into YE's room and Mz. Kang finds YE's bank account book documenting over 52k (usd) worth of savings. Afterwards, Mz. Kang tells Mrs. Choi not to get groceries for a while and to cook and eat whatever is already in the fridge and freezer. KW then calls Mz. Kang and invites her out to a movie to cheer her up. Mz. Kang agrees and KW calls YE to let her know and says sorry about it, and YE says not a problem as long as his mom feels better.

Meanwhile, DH is busy with work and forgets about his dinner promise with JA's family, and JA is upset and DH says he'll try to make it, however JA says she's fine and they'll do it next time, and she'll just tell her mom he had an urgent work issue to resolve. Mrs. Jeong and JA's mom get on the phone and Mrs. Jeong apologizes for DH's behavior. Over at KW's, Mz. Kang puts some food in YE's bowl saying it's good for pregnant woman, and asks KW about the lazor machine he wanted, but KW says he's fine without it for now, and Mz. Kang stops eating sighing about their situation. YE goes to see Mz. Kang afterwards to tell her she'll go to the hospital for a checkup, and Mz. Kang tells YE to sit and gives her her diamond ring, telling YE to go and sell it to Mz. Park so she can buy the lazor machine for KW. YE tells her she shouldnt' do that since KW already said he can do without it and she should at least talk to KW first. Mz. Kang gets upset and says even if she says more stuff she wants to buy it for KW, but if YE is against it she won't do it for now.



HJ's ex-boss returns from his trip and brings 2 knockoff bags for HJ and her mom, and HJ throws him out. Just then YE arrives, and laughs at the situation between HJ and her ex-boss. HJ's mom feeds YE some spicy rice cakes and apologizes for what happened at KW's clinic, but YE asks her more info about Mz. Kang's background, and HJ's mom changes the subject saying she really made a mistake. That night, YE hands her bank accounts and seal to KW, saying it is money she saved up which KW should use for buying his machine. KW says he can't take it and he'll resolved it, but he will accept her heart, and says YE shouldn't tell his mom about the money. KW says they are more well-off then she thinks, and right now they are just going through a shortage of cash is all. Next day KW gets the machine he needs on lease purchase, and Mz. Kang gets furious when she finds out saying he'll end up paying for lots of interest money only. Mz. Kang asks YE if she knew it beforehand and YE says no. Then Mz. Kang says from tomorrow, they will have no more than 3 side dishes for meals.



Next morning, when Mz. Kang sees YE coming downstairs early in the morning, Mz. Kang comments YE should take it easy as she is told, but Mz. Kang then says but then again it's probably good for YE to move around too since that might benefit the baby too. YE is confused, and Mrs. Choi says it sounds like Mz. Kang is telling YE to start doing some chores now. Mz. Kang then tells YE she has reduced their family budget, until they have more cash on hand. YE says okay and leaves, but just as she's leaving, Mz. Kang says if she were YE she wouldn't sit back doing nothing and YE is surprised by the comment. When YE goes up she opens the monthly budget money, and is more surprised to find only 5 hundred dollars worth of cashiers check. At the hospital, DH visits JA and gives her a warm cup of coffee, and apologizes for forgetting about the dinner invitation. JA says she forgives him and says the coffee is yummy, and DH then says he can promise her to give her a lifetime of good coffee. JA is surpised and DH says he's having a hard time putting away his feelings for YE cleanly and he can't promise he'll forget in the future for sure either, since he can't erase his memories, but if JA can accept him as is, he wants to marry her, and if they marry he will do his best to be a good husband and partner in life, as long as JA can accept him as is. JA says she has to think about it and says she'd rather that he'd just lie to her and says he's already forgotten everything about YE, but for not doing so he's showing no concern for her feelings. DH apologizes but says he'd rather be honest with her, and JA says he's not proposing to her right now, he's merely trying to escape from YE. JA says she has to think about whether or not she will wage her entire life in the hands of a man who says he cannot forget his old lover.

DH thinks about JA's words when he proposed, and DH tells his father JA asked for some time to think, and that he probably hurt her feelings. Mrs. Jeong and aunt ES visit the temple to pray, and Mrs. Jeong tells ES she prayed for her family's safety and health but most importantly for DH to get married soon. ES says she prayed for her son Seung-Min that he'd be able to come back to Korea and live with her, and ES says if DH gets married he'll probably still live at home so maybe it's time for her to move out, and Mrs. Jeong says Mr. Jeong won't agree to it, and she won't keep DH and his bride at home for too long, and she'll send them to live on their own after a while. ES says that's good cuz she dreads having to live alone and shows recent picture of her son to her. Mrs. Jeong goes home and finds out from Mr. Jeong about JA wanting to think over marriage with DH, and Mrs. Jeong cannot believe it and wonders what happened for JA to behave this way. Mr. Jeong says to leave it alone, but Mrs. Jeong tells MH to go and ask about it, and MH says they should give JA some time, but MH goes and calls JA and JA doesn't pick up.



MH then goes to see DH and says DH is too cold toward JA, and he should've been warm and caring like he is with YE. DH says he got it, and wants to push MH out, but MH goes on and says whenver she mentions YE he gets all sensitive, and YE's life isn't so bad, there are many ppl living much harsher lives, and DH's biggest problem is he has YE up on a pedestal and he can't see anyone else because of it. MH then tells DH to call JA and MH leaves. Meanwhile, Mz. Kang gives YE a bunch of bills and tells YE to pay for them for now, and Mz. Kang tells YE to fetch a bag she ordered at the department store, and to go shopping for some pricey food as well. YE takes the bills upstairs and looks at the high amounts and wonders what to do. When YE goes to fetch the designer bag she realizes Mz. Kang hasn't paid for it and YE tries to call Mz. Kang at the gym but her call is ignored. The bag costs over 3 thousand bucks and YE asks if she could get it next time but the lady says there's a long wait for it thus they can't put it on hold, and YE gets out her credit card to pay for it. YE finally returns home with all the errands and Mrs. Choi says maybe Mz. Kang found some money she lost seeing how lavish she's spending again. When Mz. Kang comes home she says she forgot that she didn't pay for the bag yet, but she'll pay YE back later since she doesn't have the cash right now. YE says okay, but Mz. Kang then says soon it'll be her birthday so maybe they can just say it's YE's gift for her, and it's like she solved YE trouble of having to find a right gift. YE is speechless and when KW comes home, YE tells KW about all this, and KW says she should've said something sooner and gives YE three thousand bucks right away.

KW then goes to his mom's room and gives her the money he earned today, and Mz. Kang says it's so little and asks what happened. KW says he gave some to YE since she didn't give YE budget money this month, and Mz. Kang pretends to be appalled and looks at her budget book and tells KW to call YE down. KW goes to the kitchen and tells YE she's going to have to get the money he gave her and come downstairs. Infront of KW, Mz. Kang puts on an apologetic tone of voice and tells YE she forgot about it due to all the trauma she's experienced lately, and Mz. Kang gives YE some money and tells her from now if there's money issue YE should come see her directly instead of going through KW in trying to ruin their mother and son relationship. KW and YE both argue that wasnt' the case, and Mz. Kang says fine and tells them to leave, however YE leaves and KW stays behind as Mz. Kang complains they should sent YE to some class to learn some charms. KW goes upstairs and YE asks him if he got scolded by his mom and KW says no and if YE is short on cash she should let him know so he can give her some here and there. KW then says his mom is actually a very affectionate person and YE should try to develop a closer relationship with her like going to see the movies together. Next morning, Mz. Kang scolds YE for not washing the shirt good enough and Mz. Kang orders YE to do her chores better and to iron everything down to underwear. Mz. Kang then asks YE for a thousand bucks saying she gave all her money to YE already and now she needs some money to spend, and YE goes up to get it. Then after Mz. Kang leaves, YE offers to clean the freezer in lieu of Mrs. Choi, and Mrs. Choi starts to complain about Mz. Kang working them like dogs. Mrs. Choi asks YE if it's possible for the Jeong's to send a maid over to help, and YE says she doesn't want to trouble the Jeong's with these things. Mrs. Choi says YE should at least take care of her own body and rest when she needs to. Mrs. Choi then does an imitation of Mz. Kang which makes YE laugh.



YE continues to work on the chores and calls HJ to say hi, and HJ asks if something's wrong, but YE says nothing and asks about HJ. HJ says her work is busy and she likes her studies but her brain isn't cooperating. YE asks about Mr. Kim, the ex-boss, and HJ says not to mention him even. HJ and YR then start working on developing new looks for their internet clothing line, and YR says she'll work for HJ for free as long as HJ feeds her since she hates cooking, and just then a delivery of bouquet flowers and a cake arrives for HJ. DH continues to do well at work and speaks to Mr. Jeong after a presentation when YE calls Mr. Jeong. Mr. Jeong tells YE to come meet for a while, and YE tells Mz. Kang she's on her way to see Mr. Jeong, but Mz. Kang is unhappy to hear KW wasn't invited, and Mz. Kang then offers to give YE a ride to Mr. Jeong's company. As Mz. Kang drops YE off, Mz. Kang goes on and on about how YE should tell Mr. Jeong about how they got conned when they tried to buy a cottage and how they're not doing well financially and how Mr. Jeong should come visit KW at his practice too. YE realizes Mz. Kang wants money from the Jeong's and feels cold suddenly, and when she gets off she sees DH there waiting for her, saying he wanted to see her face on his way to a business errand.



YE and DH say hi briefly and DH leaves patting her once on the shoulder. YE goes to see Mr. Jeong and Mr. Jeong asks her if there's anything she wishes to say to him. YE asks Mr. Jeong why he gave congratutory money to Mz. Kang, and Mr. Jeong asks if she heard it from KW and YE says no from elsewhere. Mr. Jeong says it just turned out that way, and YE says he shouldn't have wasted his money but Mr. Jeong says when one lives there are times you waste money too. YE says she doesn't want comfort that is bought with money, and Mr. Jeong asks if the effect of the money is already gone. YE asks if he will give more if that's the case, and Mr. Jeong says in that case he'll take her out from that home. Mr. Jeong then gives YE some money to use as spending money and YE declines but Mr. Jeong insists that she takes it.

Meanwhile, Mz. Kang has lunch with KW and throws a fit when she learns YE didnt' even call KW about her going to see Mr. Jeong. In the next room at the same resturant, Mrs. Jeong and JA meet as well and JA returns the ring to her saying it's too burdensome for her to keep it, but Mrs. Jeong says not to be burdened by it since it's only a gift from her. Mz. Kang sees the two together and she remembers JA as the hospital owner's daughter, and Mz. Kang realizes Mrs. Jeong is trying to have JA as her daughter-in-law, and Mz. Kang says the rich ones are scary. When YE comes home, Mz. Kang asks YE if she told Mr. Jeong about how they got conned buying land or if they had to buy the lazor machine on lease, and YE says no. Mz. Kang says YE shouldn't be embarrassed to tell the Jeong's about these things, and Mz. Kang then says she's short on cash and asks YE if she could lend her some 50-60k bucks, saying she will write a contract and give YE interest money. YE says she doesn't have that kinda of money, and Mz. Kang is surprised by it. YE says she let her friend borrow the money and now all she has left is some spending money. Mz. Kang says fine and starts to pick on Mrs. Choi about how dirty the rag is, and Mz. Kang shouts since they had a new family member (YE), everything's gone downhill. YE listens and rushes upstairs, and hides her bank account books and seal. That night, Mz. Kang feels indigestion, and when KW and YE bring her some medicine, Mz. Kang takes it and tells YE to leave. YE leaves, and Mz. Kang says YE is not likeable at all, never says anything sweet, and she's useless on top of it all. KW asks his mom to be more gentle with YE saying that will soften YE as well, but Mz. Kang then says the Jeong's are so cheap for only giving them money once, but KW says to stop and distracts her with a card game.



DH and aunt Es talk over some drinks and ES says JA is a woman afterall and DH says he's not sure what to do about it, and ES says DH should try harder to grab JA's heart. After spending some time with his mom, KW goes upstairs and asks YE to spend more time with his mom alone since his mom's a pitiful woman. YE asks if she's being held as a hostage here for money and KW says that's nonsense, but YE goes on to say she's not even Mr. Jeong's real daughter, and she's tired of Mz. Kang always telling her to tell the Jeong's about how broke they are. Mz. Kang eavesdrops from outside the room and KW continues to defend his mom saying YE is misunderstanding his mom, but YE says she can't handle his mom anymore, and KW starts to get desperate as he cries and pleads YE to treat his mom like her own mother. Mz. Kang then calls for KW to come outside and as soon as KW goes out, Mz. Kang grabs his hand and asks him to sleep with her downstairs since she's too scared to sleep alone due to her high blood pressure. Next morning, YE sends KW off to work with a warm scarf, and afterwards, Mz. Kang tells YE to come into her room. Mz. Kang accuses YE of trying to part KW from her, and YE says she never did so and she's really trying hard to be part of the family but Mz. Kang is pushing her away. Mz. Kang says she did no such thing, and tells YE to think of these as misunderstandings, and now these misunderstandings are resolved. YE says fine and Mz. Kang sends her away, but afterwards Mz. Kang throws a fit wondering how YE got so brazen.



Mz. Kang decides to check herself in at the emergency room and starts to put on a big act, by pretending to be dying, and Mz. Kang tells Mr. Choi not to tell YE about it or else he's dead meat. Mr. Choi calls Mrs. Choi to come and asks her not to say anything to YE no matter what. Mrs. Choi comes and when she finds out Mz. Kang was fine until she walked herself in the hospital, Mrs. Choi says Mz. Kang is putting on a big show to torment her son and YE. Mrs. Choi says he should call KW at once, and when KW arrives Mz. Kang is asleep and KW asks the Choi's what's going on, but Mrs. Choi says the doctor says she's merely high in blood pressure and there's nothing else wrong with her. KW is still upset and asks about YE, and Mrs. Choi says YE was asleep so she didn't call. KW goes back to his mom's bedside and tells his mom to open her eyes already since he knows she's not asleep. Mz. Kang starts to wail and says KW doesn't know how much YE is making her suffer. HJ and Mr. Kim arrive outside of YE's home and HJ calls YE asking her to come outside for a moment since she's passing by. YE comes out and HJ says she came to deliver some baby clothes, and YE invites them come inside, but HJ says she's in a hurry, and YE then asks HJ to wait just a sec while she goes home to get something. YE then rushes to her room and gets her bank acount books, and runs out to give them to HJ to keep for her, saying one of the account book is the money she wants to invest in HJ's business and the only one she needs HJ to keep for her. Just then KW comes and tells YE in a harsh voice to come inside the home at once. When they go inside, KW shouts at YE saying his mom's at the hospital but she's playing with her friends, and that YE is a scary woman. YE says she didn't know but KW tells her to shut up and to go and beg for forgiveness from his mom immediately.

Mz. Kang asks Mrs. Choi where KW is and Mrs. Choi is synical and says KW probably went to make that money Mz. Kang loves so much, since money is medicine for her, and Mz. Kang gets upset and throws a pillow at her telling her to leave. KW drags YE to the hospital and orders her to beg and apologize for forgiveness. YE says she didn't even do anything wrong and it's not fair for him to tell her what to do without hearing her side of the story but KW doesn't care and says YE should beg or else she's responsible if anything goes wrong with his mom. YE goes before Mz. Kang and says sorry saying she thought they had already resolved their misunderstanding, but Mz. Kang pretends that never happened and says YE is the one who accused her of being mean to her and when YE tries to argue about it KW continues to shout telling YE to stop talking just to beg for forgiveness. YE fights back and says it's true what she said to his mom but she only said that because she wanted to be part of the family, like a real daughter. Mz. Kang is caught speechless but KW says even so YE was harsh, and just then Mz. Kang pulls another fake episode of passing out from trauma however just as the doctor arrives Mz. Kang opens her eyes again. HJ continues to give Mr. Kim the cold shoulder over the knockoff bag, but Mr. Kim promises her when he earns money he'll really buy her a genuine purse.



YR or HJ gets a flower bouquet and wine delivered with a card that says 'marry me', and YR goes to see HJ's brother and says she'll marry him, but HJ's brother says it's not from him. Then YR says it must be HJ's and HJ's mom asks HJ if it's from Mr. Kim, and HJ says no way. YR then asks HJ's mom if she has a lover too and HJ's mom says no way and HJ says there's nothing wrong if she did. YR says they should drink the wine anyway since it's here, and just then HJ's mom sneaks out to the kitchen and calls someone asking why he sent those things but the other person denies doing such thing. Meanwhile JA and MH meet and MH says their whole family is waiting for JA's decision, and JA tells MH about running into YE at the hospital. JA also says YE looked really sad, and MH says JA is falling so easily for YE's tactics, but JA says YE looked really sad. MH asks JA if she's rejecting DH because of YE, and just then DH arrives at the bar as well.

MH leaves the two to talk, and DH says he thought a lot about what she said, and he's not the irresponsible kind of guy she sees him, but regardless he only thought about his perspective so it's his fault and he is sorry. JA asks what he'd do if they didnt' run into each other today like this, if she didn't contact him, and DH says he'd probably wait til she called, and JA asks for how long, and DH says actually he wanted to call her many times but he wasn't sure what to say so he didn't call. DH also says he was insenstive to her and only remembered as the cute and jolly girl, and never thought hard about the wounds she may have received from him. JA laughs and says DH surely repented a lot, but JA says she became unsure whether she could understand and accept everything about him now and in the future, however she was immature and still wanted him to contact her first. DH says thanks and says they still have 3 out of 10 dates left and he asks if those dates are still available. JA is happy to hear that he still remembers their dates and the two start drinking together. MH goes home and tells her mom and aunt about DH and JA at the bar, and spills the beans about Mz. Kang being hospitalized and YE looking sad over it. YE is sent home and when Mrs. Choi comes home as well she tells YE to her Mz. Kang seems just fine and a year or two ago Mz. Kang did the same thing just to get her way across.



That night HJ textmessages YE to check on her and YE says it's nothing big. YE then grabs her tummy and apologizes to her unborn child and YE promises her child no matter what she will make him/her happy and YE weeps. Next morning YE starts to make porridge to bring to Mz. Kang at the hospital and Mrs. Choi says YE's life is tough but she's pregnant and must live thus she's going to have to endure these things, and KW is too weak-hearted but he's good to YE overall. YE gets the food ready and brings it all to Mz. Kang but Mz. Kang gives YE the cold shoulders and tells YE to leave the food on the table and leave since she's not needed here. KW then shows up and tells his mom he brought the beef stew she wanted and Mz. Kang says she doesnt' want to eat, and tells KW to send YE home. KW walks YE out to the hallway and KW tells YE to go back in and get his mom to eat, and that is the least useful thing YE could do, and YE asks KW to undo the misunderstanding between then, but KW says he's busy and it's YE who got into this and she's gotta come out of it herself. Meanwhile, Mz. Kang is told by the nurse that the doctor wants her to be discharged from the hospital today, but Mz. Kang whines and says she wants to stay another day, and asks the nurse to put a sign outside the door to say not to upset the patient, and the nurse is surprised but says she will. As soon the nurse leaves, Mz. Kang devours some food brought by YE, and she then grabs her purse and jacket and runs outside of the hospital to devour some bbq and rice at the nearby eatery. YE comes back to Mz. Kang's room and finds her gone but Mz. Kang returns and YE smells bbq smell from Mz. Kang. Mz. Kang tells YE to leave cuz she's scared that the Jeong's might scold her.

Mrs. Jeong comes to visit at the hospital and notices the sign outside Mz. Kang's door, but she knocks gently and goes in, and Mz. Kang puts on her goodie act again and goes on and about how she's worried that she's adding too much stress to YE. Afterwards YE and Mrs. Jeong talk and YE tells Mrs. Jeong Mz. Kang collapsed because of her and because of money, but Mrs. Jeong says YE shouldnt' think so badly of people, and if Mz. Kang was in money trouble she should've given her some money to help out. YE is surprised and Mrs. Jeong says Mz. Kang might have issues, but YE has issues too and she should try to understand Mz. Kang's perspective and develop affection through it, instead of making everything so black and white. JA and DH eat steak together and DH watches as JA eats in a hurry and JA says she's been starving and this is the best tasting steak ever. DH says he'll buy her all the yummy food she wants, and JA says she wishes DH would eat everything well infront of her and to be happy through everything before her. DH says that will happen since JA has that talent and JA says it's true that many men have tried to steal her heart because she's such a great catch. DH then suggests they should go see a movie. Infront of KW and YE, Mz. Kang goes on about how she wanted to be discharged from the hospital so she wouldn't worry them but the doctor insisted on her staying another day. YE says she'll be by Mz. Kang's side tonight and KW says he will instead, but when Mz. Kang says Mrs. Choi will be here KW then suggests he and YE wait til she comes and go home together. Mz. Kang becomes upset that KW is concerned about YE and out of nowhere she says she wants to live apart from KW and YE so she doesn't have to worry about YE anymore. KW shouts and orders YE to do something about it but YE just sits and tears up, and Mz. Kang says her life's so low now a days. YE leaves, and Mz. Kang shouts from behind YE, complaining about YE's attitude.



DH walks JA into the hospital and JA says she can see DH's heart opened up already and she thanks DH for giving her strength. JA leaves, and DH is about to leave but he catches glimpse of YE walking by crying. YE quickly wipes away her tears, but DH is already watching her intently. DH then gives her a ride and they make a stop by the river since YE can't stop crying.



YE: Don't ask me why.
DH: Say it here kid so you can feel better.
YE: I think I must become a mean wretch. Above all else I am doing my best but the toughest thing is that my sincerity won't be accepted. I really detest caught between her and her son's physochological stress war. To say it bluntly I feel like just giving her her son who can't be part from her.
DH: what does KW do?
YE: He is strengthless. When his mom says one thing he moves toward it without any thought. Oppa, did I really do wrong?
DH: Don't I know you? At the least you are not one who will step over someone and hurt them for your own ambition. So don't hold any useless guilt. It's useless. It's not your fault. If you're hurt you should make a noise about it too. Don't try to take it all.
YE: I wanted to live well. I wanted to show that I'm living well. This is so upsetting..
DH: Do you want me to meet KW once?
YE: No! You can't. I can't take that.. Don't do it..

DH drives YE home, and as YE gets off, DH asks her if there's something he could help her with and YE says he already did and she already feels much better, and YE thanks him. DH asks if she's really going to be okay, and YE says yes and asks DH not to tell the Jeong's about it. DH says okay and to call him whenever she needs him. DH then says even though she's married, he is still her oppa and she shouldn't erase his place, and to complain to him if she has no where to complain to. Next day, Mz. Kang comes home, and KW tells YE to go and kneel to beg for forgiveness. YE says she didn't do anything wrong to deserve this and his mom is misunderstanding things. KW says she should've been careful not to cause the misunderstanding but YE says that's not fair and reminds him that he promised her he would take her side. KW sighs but YE grabs his hand and says he mustn't forget because he is her husband and the head of their household, however KW says he can't do it if it means betraying his mom, and YE says it doesn't mean betraying her, but KW says he can't handle seeing his mom dying or anything like that and KW says YE should try harder instead. YE says she's willing to kneel if that's what it takes but in doing so he must accpet her sincerity. KW then says YE is precious but his mom is precious too and his mom's a person who gave up her life for him, and KW asks YE to be patient infront of his mom and to know that what he says may not be from his heart. YE cries and goes down with KW to see Mz. Kang. YE kneels with KW and YE apologizes to Mz. Kang and asks her for forgiveness. KW says anyone can make a mistake, and Mz. Kang yells at KW for getting involved. KW then starts to shout at YE telling her to beg. Mz. Kang tells YE she's not trying to be picky but what YE did was hurtful to her, but she will treat it as forgotten, and YE must not let it repeat. KW shouts again and tells YE to remember these words and if she does it again he won't forgive her either. Mz. Kang tells KW not to scare the baby and that KW should go to work. Mrs. Choi listens from outside the room and says it's such a live show you can't even buy with money.

After KW leaves Mz. Kang gloats to YE.



Kang: You saw it clearly didn't you?
YE: --
Kang: Nevermind that you're pregnant, to my son, above you or the child, I am always the priority.
YE: --!
Kang: He cherishes me the most. You don't know how I raised him. If I tell him to break up with you, you can be kicked out of here immediately, did you know?

Episode 20: "Terms of Happiness"



JA: what are you curious most about me?
DH: why do you like me?
JA: why did you like Yeong-Eun?
DH: Jin-ah..
JA: Love doesn't need explanation. Your proposal is still effective, right?
DH: Yup.

DH's dad tells DH to make clear about his wish to marry JA, and they can then later cultivate their love.




JA: After I rejected your proposal, I thought I did good for about a day, but the next day I . I'm going to trust you. To be honest, I am bothered by your feelings toward Yeong-Eun, but like you said you can't erase your memory. I'm going to accept your promise that you will do your best for me, for us. After some thoughts, I realized I wasn't willing to accept you the way you are. But I will slowly turn your heart mine. I'm confident. But instead, please propose to me the right way.
DH: Jin-Ah ya, Let's get married.
JA: Yes, Oppa.
