MALAYSIANS are slurping down 1.2 billion servings of instant noodles a year, or over 40 packets per person. That's more than 2,200 packets every minute.

What's also remarkable is that Nestle Malaysia sells 1.3 million packets of Maggi instant noodles a day. The market share for its most popular flavour -- Maggi Mee Curry -- alone is bigger than that of its two competitors combined.

Last year, the world consumed some 94 billion servings of instant noodles -- that's about 13 packets or cups for every person on the planet. Malaysians ate more than what the world did per capita.

Malaysia is one of the top instant noodle consumers in the world -- number 13 -- with China, Indonesia, Japan, Vietnam and the United States leading the way. China's intake was almost half the world's.

It comes as no surprise, therefore, that Malaysia is host to the World Instant Noodle Summit this Tuesday, for the first time.

The seventh biennial summit will see over 300 delegates from the World Instant Noodles Association (WINA) member countries come together to discuss, over two days, the economic, environmental, dietary, technical and social impact of instant noodles.

The second day of the event at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre is open to the public.

WINA members sold 70 per cent of the total global servings last year.

Nestle Malaysia, as the biggest instant noodle producer in the country, is the local host.

"It's an honour for us, as the summit also coincides with the centenary of the birth of the inventor of instant noodles and founder of WINA, the late Momofuku Ando," said Izham Mohamed, executive director of food business unit, Nestle Products Sdn Bhd.

sebulan sekali ok lagi. aku tiap2 minggu. kurang2 2 peket. feveret kari sama tomyam. mosti mau ada tulur sama sayur dlm tu.

me meggi kalo dah makan, cuba ko tinggalkan tak basuh 2,3 hari..
di punya bau, macam nak muntah aku..
dia punya lemak tak boleh bla..

setart dari tu wa tukar try makan mee cintan kari..
tinggalkan la mangkuk tak basuh 8 hari sekalipun..
dia punya bau n lemak tak macam mee maggi..

wa bukan agen mee cintan..
tapi boleh try eksperimen ni kat umah..
