Produced by the Imagine Group and The Group Entertainment, under supervision of the World Muaythai Council (WMC), the world’s governing body for the sport of muaythai, the reality competition series is set and shot in Malaysia. Whether for glory or gain, 16 world-class fighters will fight it out to win the ultimate title of Muaythai World Champion and the grand prize of US$100,000! The fighters have been hand picked from a selection of international professional fighters from the WMC 128 member countries.
From Malaysia, Thailand, to Israel and South Africa, the motley crew of fighters trail blaze an impressive track record both in their countries and in the international arena, with numerous championship titles under their belts. With ages ranging from 18 to 35, the calibre of fighters is certainly unparalleled. Some have started their training since the tender age of seven, while others have fought The Contender Asia champion Yodsanklai and even won. With intimidating monikers like ‘The Cheetah’, ‘The Sniper’ and ‘Black Dynamite’, it is clear that the boys are not in town to play. With such high stakes, each and every fighter will not go down without a fight!
Each week, the fighters will be subjected to a rigorous bout of training from their two trainers Hanarong and Nugget, revolving around the ‘weapon of the week’. These include spiritual ideals such as respect and fearlessness, as well as focusing on each component of their body, their natural weapon in the context of Muaythai.
The Challenger Muay Thai started to air on AXN on the 15th September 2011 bringing the heat of the fight back to TV screens, and in high definition no less!.

Biography

Meet our hometown hero from Malaysia, Mohd Faisal Bin Ramli, also known as “Golden Elbow”. Faisal came from a relatively less privileged background growing up in a village with a religious family with ten other siblings!

What might be surprising to some is that Faisal is by nature a peace-loving person. He dislikes fights without reason and is a gregarious social butterfly who desires a life surrounded by friends and loved ones.

Faisal began his path in fighting at the young age of 12 and went on to become a full-time Muay Thai fighter when he turned 18. Coming from a religious family, Faisal always prays before a fight and makes it as a priority along with hours of tough work and training. His “train hard and play smart” mentality paid off when he won a gold medal in the Arafura Games in Australia.

Episod 1 - 15/9/11

VS

The first fight of the Challenger Muay Thai sure didnt disappoint with sparks flying between Vuvisile Colossa (SOUTH AFRICA) vs Michael Chase Corley (AMERICA).

Vuvisile started off fast from the opening bell and it initially looked like Michael was out of his depth. However during the 2nd round Michael composed himself and came back strong only to be dropped to the canvas with a knee and then again with a right hand from Vuvisile. Not to be dishearted Michael yet again came out strong against Vuvisile with a flurry of elbows, but with an onslaught of punches followed by some pounding leg kicks from Vuvisile the referee called a TKO victory against the brave Michael Chase Corley in round 3.

Result: Vuvisile Colossa wins by TKO in round 3.

Episod 2 - 22/09/11

VS

The second fight of the Challenger Muay Thai saw a hard fought battle between Cedric Muller (FRANCE) and Fadi Merza (AUSTRIA) leaving the judges with a bout that only had 1 point in it for the victor.

Cedric Muller came out strong in the 1st round with powerful kicks and sweeping Fadi Merza to the canvas. Fadi realizing that he was in a war settled himself into the fight and successfully worked his jab and low kick damaging the leg of Cedric in the 2nd round. Fadi ended the round with a nice holding elbow to Cedric’s side of the head leaving him with a new level of confidence entering round 3.

Cedric began strong again in round 3 having received a well-timed elbow from Faid in the previous round; his boxing and kicking causing Fadi problems and an elbow narrowing missing the face of Fadi would of ended the match if it connected. Round 4 was tit for tat. However a furious downwards elbow from Fadi saw a cut on Cedric’s forehead. Cedric not phased by the cut came out confident in round 5, but Fadi confidence in cutting Cedric in the previous round first saw Fadi catching a kick from Cedric and following up with a left hook to the chin of Cedric. Fadi then proceeded with a barrage of elbows, but Cedric defended and came back well.

The final bell rang and both fighters raised their arms in victory having put in a performance of their lifes. The judges took a while to deliberate before award the fight to Cedric.

Result: Cedric Muller wins on points

Episod 3 - 29/09/11

VS
The third fight of the Challenger Muay Thai left some of viewers in a heated debate about the result having watched an aggressive Ilya Grad (ISRAEL) against a technical Antoine Pinto (FRANCE).

Ilya Grad came out aggressive from the get-go against Antoine Pinto cutting Antoine early on the fight. Rounds 2, 3 and 4 saw the aggressive Ilya continue on his war path against Antoine with Antoine skillful evading a lot of the techniques and countering with high scoring body kicks and knees. The final round was the deciding round with Antoine scoring with well-timed body kicks again and finishing the round with a flying knee to Ilya’s solar plexus.

After a slight delay in the results from the judges they awarded the fight to Antoine Pinto. Some of the crowd was in disbelief having watched Ilya Grad dominate the fight with his aggressive fighting style. However it should be noted that whilst points are awarded for aggression Antoine scored more clearly with higher scoring techniques.

Result: Antoine Pinto wins on points.

Episod 4 - 06/10/11

VS

The fourth fight of the Challenger Muay Thai saw a veteran pro Pidsanu Kunchat (THAILAND) against a young Rhyse Saliba (AUSTRALIA).

It was clear to see from the opening bell that Pidsanu Kunchat was there to teach the youngest fighter in the competition Rhyse Saliba a lesson in Muay Thai. Pidsanu came out strong with a whole array of Muay Thai techniques against Rhyse. Rhyse did well to stand his ground and even landed with an elbow to Pidsanu’s head at the close of round 1.

The 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th rounds were packed with clinch work. Both fighters putting in good techniques, but Pidsanu always seemed to come out slightly on top. The heart shown from Rhyse Saliba in this fight was incredible, but the judges were quick to give the victory to Pidsanu after the sound of the final bell.

Result: Pidsanu Kunchat won on points.
