MBC's "The Moon that Embraces the Sun" Expected to Make a Killing Overseas by: sherryxkimon Jan 25, 2012 [url=]Flag as inappropriate[/url]
MBC's Foreign Business Administration Headquarters discussed sending "The Moon That Embraces the Sun" to foreign countries after the first episode's airing. Previous MBC historical dramas such as "Queen Seon Duk," "Jumong," and "Jjak Pae" have all been successes. The viewer rate after the first episode, which was an impressive 18% according to AGB Nielsen Media Research, has added fuel to the discussion.
"The Moon that Embraces the Sun" is expected to have a profit of over $100,000 USD (per country). It's even been predicted to surpass those of "Queen Seon Duk" and "Jumong."
And just five episodes later, the viewer rate rose tremendously to 30%! This may not seem like a lot, but keep in mind that MBC's most famous historical drama, "Jewel in the Palace," averaged a 47% viewer rating. (Do you remember the craze over that one?)
A TMTETS ("The Moon that Embraces the Sun") drama representative said to Sports Korea via telephone conversation on January 25, "TMTETS is well made and has a high viewer rate that is more than sufficient enough to place it on the foreign market. It's expected to do even better than its predecessors."
Similar to MBC's "Jewel in the Palace," "Queen Seon Duk," "Damo," and the like, "The Moon that Embraces the Sun" is good as it was promised to be. It features a cast of actors who are new to the Hallyu world, but talented nonetheless. Kim Soo Hyun, who plays the role of King Lee Hwon, was already well known for his acting in KBS's popular "Dream High." He travelled to Singapore and Japan for promotions, making fans along the way. Jung Il Woo (plays the role of Prince Yang Myung, King Lee Hwon's half brother) has a few works on his acting resume, starting with the MBC sitcom "Unstoppable Highkick," KBS's "My Fair Lady," and tvN's "Flower Boy Ramen Shop." And don't forget actress Han Ga In (Yeon Woo), who acted in MBC's "Dr. Kkang," SBS's "Witch Yoo Hee," and "Bad Guy."
"The Moon that Embraces the Sun" is also garnering attention for the big bucks that it rakes in. It's an estimated $20 million USD so far, and is predicted to go over that number as the episodes progress. And just think about how much it would make if it went overseas! Countries like Japan, Singapore, Taiwan, and Vietnam would bring an added sum of $8 million dollars to that total. (This is an estimate calculated by 4 countries times 20 episodes times $100,000 USD per country.) Add in DVD's, OST soundtracks, and other various profit, and we've got us some serious cash.
An MBC representative said, "'The Moon that Embraces the Sun' is built on a strong script, as well as a talented cast. There is no doubt that it will surpass your expectations."

yang myung kan anak concubine raja tuh. w/pun dia lahir dulu...dia tak layak jadik CP sbb anak gundik jek. yg lee hwon lak anak queen yg sah. so harus lah di angkat jadik crown prince. sama bapak (raja)..lain2 mak
raja lak ikut ckp mak dia sbb kunun2 dia dpt jadik raja ats sokongan mak dia & the clan...sbb tuh raja wat plan slow2...cuba kurang kan power mak dia & the clan. salah satu contoh....dia try masukkan scholar dlm kabinet dia (bapak yeom) & lantik yeom jadik cikgu CP (bakal masuk kabinet CP bila dia jadik raja lak)

dia bkn sakit apa pun sebenarnya.....tp sbb bersedih hati so dia nya jantung tuh asik mcm sakit jek ingat kat yeon woo. bila mental dia sakit teringat kat yeon woo....dia nya physical health pun affected sama.

wol kena tangkap & di hantar ke istana...kan dia shaman so dorang ingat dia leh baik kan samdong. first time wol masuk bilik dia...dia tgh tido..lps tuh air mata mengalir...muka bekerut2 mimpi detik2 dia ngan yeon woo. wol letak tgn ats dahi dia...terus senyum jek hehe!! esok tuh sihat walafiat jek samdong...jalan dgn gagah nya....senyum2 lagik...happy gilers. ministers sume mcm kagum aaa..waaaa...baru satu mlm wol leh baikkan raja. 2nd time wol masuk bilik dia...pun gituk gak. letak tgn ats dahi. esok nya...samdong mcm pelik & rasa something & tnya woon (bodyguard dia tuh)...naper dia rasa masa dia tido ada org letak tgn ats dahi dia? lps tuh rasa mcm happy jek hehe!!
3rd time wol masuk.....wol letak tgn ats dahi tiba2 dia dpt ingat balik sikit2 detik dia ngan lee hwon masa kecik2. terus dia angkat tgn & konpius. samdong lak bukak mata.....terus pegang tgn wol & tolak wol ke ats tilam dia tuh. samdong ats dia ekekeke!! & tnya 'who are you?'..abis epi 8 ekekekeke!!

Kim Soo Hyun and Han Ga In’s heart-fluttering scene pushes ratings over 30%
‘The Moon That Embraces The Sun‘ is quickly becoming one of Korea’s top dramas this season!
The 8th episode that aired on January 26th gained 31.7% in viewer ratings, a number that’s hard to come by considering how networks are increasing the number of dramas broadcasted each year.
The last time a Wednesday/Thursday drama achieved over 30% in ratings was in 2010 with ‘Baker King Kim Tak Goo’. If all time slots are taken into account, then this is the first drama to achieve the 30% rating mark since ‘Giant’, which ended in December of 2010.
Although there are many memorable scenes in the drama, the one scene that stood out the most was in the last episode. The heated scene between Kim Soo Hyun and Han Ga In made the viewers’ hearts flutter, leaving many in a state of desperation for the next episode.
To recap, Han Ga In leaned over the sleeping Kim Soo Hyun and gently touched his forehead. At that moment, Kim Soo Hyun opens his eyes and impulsively pulls Han Ga In down, pinning her to the mattress. Although he was shouting “Who are you? Who are you supposed to be?”, viewers’ hearts raced at seeing the actors’ faces so close together. The drama froze on this scene as it ended, guaranteeing a strong turnout for the next episode. |
