Malaysia completed the First Round of the World League with a 100 percent win record as they whitewashed Sri Lanka 9-0 at the Kuantan Hockey Stadium on Sunday. Malaysia will be joined in the second round by Kazakhstan, who took the second berth thanks to six points from a possible nine.

It was yet another impressive performance from Malaysia, a team that had also scored double digit victories over Singapore (11-0) and Kazakhstan (11-1) earlier in the competition to confirm their place in the second round.

The game’s opening goal arrived in only the second minute of the match when Norbaini Hashim fired home before Malaysia established a 4-0 half time lead thanks to strikes from Fazilla Sylvester Silin, Juliani Mohammad Din and Siti Rahhmah Othman. Norbaini and Fazilla were both on target in the second half, with Siti Noor Amarina Ruhaini, Nor Hidayah Bokhari and Kannagi Arumugam also registering in the rout.

Kazakhstan confirmed their place in the second phase thanks to a 5-1 triumph over Singapore. Kazakhstan’s Gulnara Imangaliyeva opened the scoring in the 18th minute before Singapore grabbed an equalizer just before half time when a deflected penalty corner strike from O Ming Fen flew into the net. However, Kazakhstan emerged comfortable winners thanks to a second half double from Natalya Gataulina, with further strikes from Imangaliyeva and Vera Domashneva completing a 5-1 score-line.

IRANIAN WOMEN SHOW THE WAY

The Iranian women's hockey team at the AHF Indoor Championship's have created an impact though it is only day two of the competition. After holding the Malaysia ' A ' team to a 3-3 draw yesterday, Iran defeated the Malaysian 'B' team 3-0 today at the Indera Mulia Stadium in Ipoh.

But it is not only their performances that have got the spectators take notice and watch. Coming for a strict muslim country, the apparel worn by the Iranian team too is " eye-catching " as they are covered in accordance with the requirements of Islam, but it has not hampered their performances on the pitch.

For the record, only Indoor Hockey is played in Iran and there are 24 teams competing in their league. Though they have four artificial outdoor pitches, women's hockey is not played outdoor.

Their apparel could be a source of inspiration to muslim girls in Malaysia who want to take up sports. Even some state sports council's could look into copying the attrire for Sukma next year.

Aku tak tau penglibatan skuad hoki wanita Iran utk Indoor Hockey.. Biasanya lelaki..

Tapi semasa Liga Hoki Dunia kat Kuantan hari tu, ada seorang pemain skuad hoki wanita negara pakai tudung..

Walau apa pun, ini mmg patut kita contohi...

Tapi, utk truely field hockey, mmg skuad wanita negara setakat ni yg paling sopan.. Dan aku tak pernah nampak lagi skuad hoki wanita Iran main game hoki yg sebenar..

Berdasarkan pemerhatian aku di negara Arab nie,

kaum-kaum Asia Barat ni hebat dlm indoor sport..

Bola Baling, Futsal, Bola Keranjang, Bola Tampar...

Jadik aku tak terkejut kalau depa handal dlm utk indoor hockey. In-fact, skuad hoki negara pun pernah tewas di tangan Iran...

Cuma Badminton je depa ni kurang sebab hanya dimainkan oleh pasukan Asia Timur dan Asia Tenggara sahaja..

Apa-apa pun, field hockey jugak mempamerkan hoki sejati sekaligus mempengaruhi ranking skuad hoki negara skuad lelaki mahupun skuad wanita.

Ohh.. no wonder...

Tough Task Awaits Malaysia In Second Round

Thursday, 27 September 2012 09:36

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia will be among the 10 teams who will be fighting it out in the second round of the women’s World League hockey competition in New Delhi in February.

Malaysia, who are ranked 22nd in the world, will be up against Japan (No. 9), South Africa (10th), the United States (11th), India (12th), Spain (13th), Belgium (14th), Ireland (15th), Azerbaijan (16th) and Kazakhstan (33rd).

The teams ranked ninth to 16th received a bye in the first round.

Malaysia and Kazakhstan qualified for the competition in New Delhi after emerging as champions and runners-up in the first round in Kuantan earlier this month.

The International Hockey Federation (FIH) came up with the World League so as to do away with the Olympic and World Cup qualifiers after the London Olympics.

The inaugural World League was introduced this year as a tournament for teams to qualify for the 2014 World Cup in The Hague, Holland.

Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC) senior vice-president S. Shamala said that although the second round would feature stronger teams, “Malaysia stand a good chance of qualifying for the third round as eight out the 10 teams will move on”.

“So Malaysia have a chance to make it to the third round. The national team just need to beat two teams to finish among the top eight to feature in the next round,” she said.

“We stand a chance to beat teams like Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan in the second round. We thrashed Kazakhstan 11-1 in the first round in Kuantan and we defeated Azerbaijan 2-1 in the Indira Gandhi tournament in New Delhi in 2007.”

As part of their preparation for the New Delhi tournament, the national team will feature in the three-nation Lanco Australian series in Perth from Nov 22-25. The other team will be India.

“We have retained the same set of players who featured in round one in Kuantan,” said Shamala, who added that the national team will also go on a playing tour to either India or South Korea probably in December or January.

The national women’s team are trained by former international goalkeeper Mohd Nasihin Nubli.

MALAYSIA TO HOST WORLD LEAGUE SEMIS

PRESS RELEASE ON FIH WORLD LEAGUE
BY HRH TENGKU ABDULLAH SULTAN AHMAD SHAH
PRESIDENT, MALAYSIAN HOCKEY CONFEDERATION

Malaysia has been awarded the hosting rights for the Semi Final stage of the World League that offers six spots for the 2014 World Cup to be held in Holland.

In revealing this, Malaysian Hockey Confederation President Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad said that the International Hockey Federation (FIH) confirmed Malaysia as the host for the tournament that will be held in Johor Baru from June 1-9.

"It is indeed an honor to play host to this prestigious event that will not only feature top ranked teams but also provide Malaysia an opportunity to qualify for the 2014 World Cup in Holland,”said Tengku Abdullah.

"I must record my appreciation to the Johor State Government for graciously having consented to hold the event in Johor Baru.

"There is no doubt that hockey has a tremendous fan base in Johor and I am sure that the Malaysian team will benefit from the support they will receive in their quest to make the World Cup on merit for the first time since 1998."

The last time Malaysia played in the World Cup was in 2002 when it was held in Kuala Lumpur. Malaysia played in the 1998 World Cup in Holland after a hiatus of 16 years as prior to that India 1982 was the last appearance for Malaysia.

There will be two Round 3 tournaments with eight teams each. These tournaments will feature two pools of four teams and will have placement games following the Round Robin. The second semi final is to be held in Holland.

In the semis, the top eight teams from the FIH rankings will join the qualifiers from the four second round tournaments that are to be held in India, Brazil, France and Russia.

Tengku Abdullah said the opportunity to host the Semi Finals arose when Germany who was the original hosts withdrew and FIH approached Malaysia.

"A lot of thought was put into the idea of playing host and after looking at the benefits that will avail to our national team, we put in a bid, but only after getting the official nod from Johor," said Tengku Abdullah.

"With this development Malaysia is exempt from playing in Round Two in Russia in May and this provides us with a perfect opportunity to try qualify for the World Cup."

National coach Paul Revington was naturally happy with the turn of events and had this to say:

"Malaysian hockey has a very proud history of successfully hosting FIH World Level events and it is no surprise that the FIH has turned to the MHC to host the World League 3 Semi Final stage.

"The timing of this World Level event also fits perfectly with the long-term MHC development drive to promote the 1Mas, Project 2013 and 2017 teams as these youngsters need to see more elite teams and players perform on Malaysian soil.

"This is obviously very exciting news and an added bonus for our Senior Team too who will relish the challenge and will aim to make full use of this opportunity.”

For National Team Manager George Koshy, hosting the Semi Final stage meant that Malaysia would have two bites of the cherry, as Malaysia will also host the Asia Cup that offers a single spot for the World Cup.

"Malaysia having won the bid provides us with an opportunity to make the cut for the World Cup not once but twice on home soil! The strong home support will the impetus to accomplish this fete, " said George.

Agaknya sebab tahun ni tak buat Sultan Johor Cup...
Tapi aku pun dok mikir gak, kenapa tak buat kat Stadium Bukit Jalil?

Kejap..

Aku rasa ni berkait dgn masalah accomodation, logistic dan visa as well as permit sebab tetiba je Jerman tarik diri jadik tuan rumah last minute..
Aku bukak kalenda FIH biasanya depa dah setahun rancang....
Lagi pun bukan Malaysia yg lobi..
(okay, kat sini aku dah mula nampak peranan Tengku Abdullah jadik Presiden MHF menjawat jawatan Lembaga Eksekutif dlm FIH)

Other than that, stadium Bkt. Jalil tak berapa penuh sangat kalau ada hoki berbanding stadium kat JB dan jugak kat Ipoh disebabkan kapasiti tempat duduk.. Stadium penuh tu memberikan presepsi pada FIH.. pada aku laa...

Supporter around the world?
Aku rasa kalau ada pun supporter sekitar Asia powerhouse je.. Korea, Japan, India, Pakistan, China.. Paling jauh, Aussie and Newzie... kalau ada tambahan, England.. Last edited by SulurBidar on 21-1-2013 02:52 PM

Aku rasa, world class facilities for hockey tournament stakat ni ialah JB dan Ipoh becoz every year ada hockey tournament yg bertaraf dunia..

Kuantan dgn KL dah lama tak anjurkan kejohanan bertaraf dunia..
Last kali Kuantan buat tahun 2009... Hoki Piala Asia..
KL? Last skali World Cup 2002..

Utk World League ni mmg MHC takkan nak pilih Ipoh sebab Ipoh akan anjurkan dua tournament utk tahun nie je iaitu

Piala Sultan Azlan Shah - Mac 2013
Piala Asia - Aug 2013
