Bishop Paul Tan has criticised Muhammad Muhammad Taib for his shocking remarks on the alleged Christian propensity for violence PETALING JAYA: PAS’ latest recruit has irked Bishop Paul Tan with his statement that Christians have done more killing in their time than the Muslims.
According to the head of the Johor and Malacca diocese, the remarks made by former Selangor menteri besar Muhammad Muhammad Taib during a ceramah here was “the sort of statement one would expect from a wild-eyed radical living in Timbuktu rather than a member of a responsible political party.”
In the course of remarks voiced in apparent regret that Islam had been misconstrued to be a militant religion, Muhammad Taib had said the misperception was the work of Jews and Caucasians who harbored evil intent against a peaceful religion.
Muhammad Taib – popularly known at ‘Mat’ Tyson – then compared the track records of Christians and Muslims, claiming that the former had done more killing than the latter. ‘Fantastic and shocking in their ignorance’
Commenting further, Tan said Muhammad’s remarks were “fantastic and shocking in their ignorance”.
The bishop added that he could not understand how a man of the former MB’s stature could utter such patent nonsense.
“Obviously, history is not his strong suit and he might have been quoted out of turn, but if he did indeed say what he has been quoted as having said, then the remarks must be repudiated by responsible leaders of his party simply because they reflect so poorly on their intellect,” he said.
Tan pointed out that these days “people of goodwill refrain from comparing the records of the various religions because to do so risks judging a religion on the conduct of its less worthy members and this is something the well-intentioned studiously avoid.”
“From that salutary restraint the impulse to engagement and dialogue arises and that, in turn, promotes inter-religious harmony and goodwill,” said the 73-year-old Jesuit-trained prelate.
“The man who made these remarks would be a misfit in any entity purporting to work for change in Malaysia,” he added.

Mana ada benci kat bishop puak2 nih....kalau bishop pakai ayat Bible vs ustaz PAS guna ayat al-Qur'an, silap2 ayat2 Bible diorg pakai dari amik ayat2 al-Qur'an dari ustaz PAS....sbb dia dari PAS, tu je.
Mat Taib pun once announced nak join PAS, trus dari sayang jadi benci nak mampos kat dia....itu biasa.
