[MOVIE] RUROUNI KENSHIN LIVE-ACTION SEQUELS: NEW CAST MEMBERS
New details regarding the two sequel movies to Rurouni Kenshin (2012), such as the addition of cast members, have recently emerged. The 2012 movie is a live-action adaptation of Nobuhiro Watsuki’s Rurouni Kenshin manga. It opened in Singapore on 29 November 2012 and is now available on DVD. Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Taika-hen (Rurouni Kenshin: The Great Kyoto Fire Arc) and Rurouni Kenshin: Densetsu no Saigo-hen (Rurouni Kenshin: The End of a Legend Arc) will be adaptations of the original manga’s Kyoto arc. Both movies, which can be regarded as two parts of a longer movie, are due to open in Summer 2014. Keishi Otomo, who directed the first movie, will be returning to direct the sequels. Main cast members Takeru Sato (Kenshin Himura), Emi Takei (Kaoru Kamiya), Munetaka Aoki (Sanosuke Sagara), Yuu Aoi (Megumi Takani) and Yosuke Eguchi (Hajime Saito) will also be reprising their roles. Kaito Oyagi will be taking over the role of Yahiko Myojin, which was played by Taketo Tanaka in the first movie. New additions to the cast have also been announced. 
Tatsuya Fujiwara has been cast as Makoto Shishio. In the original manga, Shishio is the main villain of the Kyoto arc and Kenshin’s nemesis. He is a former assassin like Kenshin, and harbours ambitions of taking over Japan . Fans may recognise Fujiwara from his roles in manga adaptations such as Death Note’s Light Yagami and Kaiji’s Kaiji Ito. He is also known for playing Shuya Nananahara in Battle Royale.
Yusuke Iseya will be playing the role of Aoshi Shinomori. Aoshi is the leader of ninja group Oniwabanshu and holds a grudge against Kenshin. Iseya’s notable roles include the title character of the live-action adapation of Casshern, 13 Assassin‘s Koyata Kiga and Ashita no Joe‘s Tohru Rikiishi.
Ryunosuke Kamiki will be taking on the role of Soujirou Seta. Soujirou is a young swordsman whose skill rivals Kenshin’s and is loyal to Shishio. Kamiki has provided the voice for characters in anime movies such as Markl in Howl’s Moving Castleand main character Kenji Koiso in Summer Wars.
