Masing unhappy with religious questions in engineering scholarship interview

KUCHING: Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) president Tan Sri James Masing has expressed concern on how a non-Muslim student was asked Islamic-based questions during an interview for the Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) scholarship.
Nigel Unchat Jeremaiah, who scored 9As in last year's SPM examination, was participating in a group question-and-answer session in which the candidates were asked questions on Muslim prayers (rukun Solat) and the names of Muslim prophets, among others.
He was applying for a scholarship to study mechanical engineering at a Mara college.
Masing was upset over the line of questioning, saying it was wrong to ask questions on Islamic religious matters to non-Muslims.
"Nigel is pursuing a scholarship to become a mechanical engineer, not an ustaz. What is the relevance of these questions when applying for a higher learning scholarship?
"The Mara officers must understand that there are many natives in Sarawak and that Muslims are a minority here. What if the candidate can't answer the questions? Will he be disqualified?" he asked, adding that he did not want this incident to happen again in Sarawak.
Meanwhile, Nigel said he had not expected Islamic-based questions to be posed at the interview, which took place last Saturday.
He said he could not answer the questions so he kept quiet.
"They asked me why I didn't answer so I told them I'm not a Muslim. Then they asked me what I thought about hudud," he told The Star.

depa takde agenda halus, beza kristian2 lain, katanya... 
btw, inilah akibatnya bila mulayu sunni tak paham Koran (tak reti cakap Arob), tapi perasan Isele tu macam milik depa...
padan muka kena sembur dgn Kristian Baek, disini Moslem MINORITY, katanya...

kalau Tanya pasal rukun solat - pada student ni I tak tahu apa relevannya lah ...
but
well if they asked you about Hudud - then they were merely testing your knowledge on current issues , well it does not mean if you are non Muslim , you cannot express your views; kang kate tak der freedom of speech pulak
actually bila ditanya soalan soalan sebegini - relax...just be nice and berseloroh, chill out lah ...
student kita dan ini bukan merujuk pada kes ini bila panel penemuduga Tanya - dia boleh duduk dengan cara yg perlukan penambahbaikan dan boleh kata : kenape Tanya soalan ni ....I mean pada I ...the want to see how you are reacting to certain unexpected questions...ni soft skills...pada masa keja esok semua situasi kena deal ...lelebih lagi kalau abroad they asked you all sorts of things dari halal, sampai human rights ...so kena jadi well verse sikitlaaa....dan relax lah tak payah nak reacting sangat ...
I mean jawablah dia leh jawab ....well not pretty much but I know it has certain labels as potong tangan whatever not and I think we more information about it certain stigmas or bla bla can be tackled ....I guess , for non muslim people in Malaysia the main concern is x, y, z ....... Personally I do not know how would this affecting the currently practising civil law....
I mean boleh je student ni respond mcm ni ...kekadang terlalu rigid u know, bosan , unimpressive, general awareness about issues
dan satu lagi MARA ni pun ...checklah profile...soalan tentang rukun solat ...tu I think kalau candidate macam kes ni ,, I think pihak MARA kena rujuk balik.
yg soal prophets - a bit odd but still jgnla marah just cakaplaaa u tahu ada berapa prophet dan boleh share dia nye rreligiosu views on concept of prophets
u see? u can always turn the table around to some good interview - interactive based
ni skills ni yg depatengok boleh tak - tapi kena tahu jugak le ...

but
depa tu pelajar engineering, tanyalah pasal isu2 engineering, pasal rumah retak ka, pasal tanah runtoh ka, pasal jalan jerlus ka, pasal jambatan bengkock ka, pasal bumbung stadium roboh ka...
hudud tu isu yg takde kepastian, kontroversial, political pun ada...... tanyalah bende2 lain kalau nak sangat test general knowledge....

Bangang tahap samdol. Tak boleh ke bab kepercayaan, keagamaan ni diguna dimasa, ketika dan audience yang sesuai? Apa kena mengena pulak menujah soalan rukun, segala nama nabi pada budak yang bukan muslim?
Kalau budak muslim diinterview dengan soalan dari bible ke, bhagavad ghita ke? Tak nye mengamuk tok imam mufti serban besau, abang abang ketuanan, jabatan specialist pengintip couple beromen dan politikus gila undi? Mule lah engkorang berdemo berkeris mengusung kepala binatang bagai.
Tak sedau diri beno species lembu taksub fefeeling suci dan benar ni. Gigih tuntut orang hormat agama sendiri, tapi ada dia paham nak sensitive ke agama orang lain? Tak nyer. Guano la orang nak hormat dan kagum dengan Islam? Sesetengah penganutnye kurang hajo tak reti adab. Nabi pun hormat penganut agama lain. |

interveiw ni nak tengok komunikasi verbal , non verbal
your way of seeing things
