BUTTERWORTH: Two women whose friendship had lasted for almost 20 years were found dead in the space of two days at the same house in Kampung Benggali.
The body of P. Kasturi, 34, was found hanged by the neck in her bedroom with a cloth attached to the ceiling fan.
The gruesome discovery on Saturday was made by her stepmother, who is staying in the same double-storey house.
On Thursday, Kasturi’s friend, whose identity remains undisclosed, was also found dead in a similar fashion at the same bedroom.
It is learnt that both women had been staying together for years before meeting their deaths.
Initial police probe revealed that Kasturi was distraught over her friend’s death and decided to ‘follow suit’ two days later.
Her friend, said to be in her 30s, was said to be facing financial problems prior to her death.
It is learnt that Kasturi had warned her family members not to disturb her after she returned home at about 11.30pm on Friday.
According to Kasturi’s stepmother, the family had been trying to keep her emotions in check after her friend’s death.
She had been feeling upset and hopeless over the incident.
It is believed that police also found several suicide notes purportedly left behind by Kasturi for her family members in the room.
Penang CID chief Senior Asst Comm Mazlan Kesah said both cases have been classified as sudden death.
