Masa karpal singh mati, sekor polis pun x dak tolong jaga traffic, setakat escort TYT saja.

So LGE sendiri kata PPS buat kerja2 polis .

Guan Eng declares PPS a legal body Athi Shankar
August 29, 2014
He says all the unfavourable reports on PPS are politically motivated. GEORGE TOWN: Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng today declared that the Penang Voluntary Patrol Unit (PPS) was a legal body and they would go all out to defend it.
He also condemned the statements by Deputy Home Minister Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Khalid Abu Bakar, declaring PPS as illegal and vigilantes.
Lim said the state exco, which met today, had decided unanimously to voice its dissatisfaction against the duo’s statements.
He revealed that the state exco had also unanimously agreed and maintained that PPS was a legal state government body, and stressed that the DAP-led state government would go all out to defend the PPS.
“The PPS has been in operation for the past four years without any problem until the recent politically motivated moves by certain quarters. It is malicious slander by the Deputy Minister and the IGP for calling the PPS vigilantes.
“To make such allegations of misconduct, it was surely politically motivated and the Penang state exco expressed strong condemnation of such tactics,” Lim told a press conference in his Komtar office here today.
He said that the state had never questioned the legitimacy of the village security and development committee (JKKK) as it was the right of the federal government to form it.
He said it was not right to call for the PPS to be disbanded due to one or two isolated cases, which the state government will investigate.
He claimed the call was akin to asking the police force to be disbanded due to one or two cases of misconduct.
“We’ve read about custodial deaths in lock ups and many other cases but we can’t have the police force disbanded just because of one or two cases,” he said.
Since it was established, he claimed the 10,000-member PPS had helped in many areas, especially in emergency cases, aided enforcement authorities, like the police, to combat and prevent crime.
Divided into 299 teams, PPS members comprise 59.6% Chinese, 32% Malays, 9.7% Indians and 0.4% others.
IGP Khalid has declared PPS illegal and said the organisation was being investigated under Section 41 of the Societies Act.
Wan Junaidi said that state governments were not allowed to set up their own standing army or police force as security matters come under federal jurisdiction.
On Wednesday Lim said the state government would not be cowed by Khalid’s statement that PPS was an illegal organisation.

Updated: Monday September 1, 2014 MYT 7:09:38 AM PPS members not paid for their community policing
GEORGE TOWN: Penang Voluntary Patrol (PPS) members give their services without getting any allowances, said a unit chief.
Bayan Baru PPS leader Latifah Hussain Sa, 60, said their job scope was community policing.
“We are not paid for what we do. We can only claim a small allowance for extra work done between 10pm to midnight and during fires and floods,” she said when contacted yesterday.
Latifah said PPS was funded by the state government and each constituency was given between RM300 and RM350 per month usually to cover food expenses for members working on night shift.
“The state provides us with a PPS vest and a few walkie-talkies for each team.
“However, we have to fork out our own money to buy torch lights for ourselves,” she said.
Latifah said they were not required to undergo any training as they did not carry any weapons in discharging their duties.
“We are just an ordinary voluntary service unit.
“But we do regular patrolling at crime hotspots to ensure public safety.”
At present, PPS members have grown to 9,002 members from 299 teams in the state.
Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng had said on Saturday that the PPS members comprised of 45% Chinese and Malay and the remaining 10% were Indian.

Ketua Menteri Pulau Pinang Lim Guan Eng sedang memikirkan bila pula polis akan mencarinya berhubung isu Unit Peronda sukarela (PPS), terutama selepas 156 anggotanya ditahan semalam.
"Mungkin saya perlu bertanya, 'Bilakah saya akan ditangkap?' Saya sedang menunggu beliau (Ketua Polis Negara (IGP), Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar)," kata Lim kepada pemberita di luar Ibu Pejabat Polis Daerah Timur Laut pagi ini, di mana anggota PPS sedang ditahan sementara menunggu perintah mereka direman dari Mahkamah Majistret hari ini.
Lim berkata kerajaan negeri tidak akan tunduk kepada "ancaman" IGP selepas beliau mengarahkan polis Pulau Pinang menangkap anggota PPS, termasuk ahli exco negeri Phee Boon Poh, selepas mereka menyertai perarakan hari Kemerdekaan di di Esplanade semalam.
"Kami berani bukan kerana kita kuat, kita lemah. Lihatlah, saya berada
"Kami berani kerana kita benar. Saya tahu beliau sangat berani kerana beliau mempunyai kuasa. Saya mengucapkan tahniah kepada beliau. Syabas!" kata Lim berseloroh.

Three PPS members tested positive for drugs By BALVIN KAUR - 1 September 2014 @ 12:33 PM
GEORGE TOWN: Three of the 156 Penang Voluntary Patrol Unit (PPS) members detained yesterday tested positive for drugs.
The men, aged between 26 and 64, would be investigated under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, in addition to investigation under Societies Act.
Police sources say that the detained are on police's wanted list and had prior criminal records.
Yesterday, police arrested PPS members after their Merdeka march-parade at the Esplanade.
Among the arrested was state executive councillor Phee Boon Poh, who is also the PPS chairman.
A panel of twenty lawyers, were seen going into the Northeast district police headquarters here to counsel those detained.
