The more money chief executive officers are paid, the worse they appear to perform.
This is the conclusion of new extensive research into CEO incentives, confidence and future stock price performance by the University of Utah, Purdue University and the University of Cambridge.
The study also found this to be true whether the CEO is at the higher end of the salary spectrum or not, with their firm performing worse over the three years following a rise in pay.
While smaller studies have been done on CEO incentives, this research took into account data from 1,500 companies for pay and performance over a longer period of time, between 1994 to 2013.
The surprising find that companies with highly paid CEOs perform worse is particularly interesting when you consider it is generally believed that is it worth paying a premium for high level, high profile leaders.
While there will be exceptions here, the study found companies run by bosses paid at the top 10% of the scale had the worst performance, returning a huge 10% less to their shareholders than other leaders.
Additionally, the companies with CEOs paid within the top 5% did on average 15% worse.
Why is this? Basically, it comes down to being overconfident, which leads to “value destroying activities”.
“Higher paid managers exhibit behavior consistent with overconfidence. Further, these overconfident CEOs invest more, engage in more mergers, and experience greater negative returns to the announcements of these mergers relative to other CEOs,” the study reads.
“Most importantly, we find that firms with highly paid CEOs earn significantly lower returns when the CEO is also overconfident. We also find that firms managed by highly paid CEOs experience lower future operating performance.”

A new report compiling the salaries of some of the wealthiest CEOs in the world has revealed the true extent of the wage disparity between bosses and their average workers.
The Executive Paywatch report, conducted by AFL-CIO, found the heads of S&P500 listed companies made an average of US$11,700 million last year – roughly 331 times the average employees’ salary of US$35,239 and 774 times that of someone on minimum wage in America.
The highest paid CEO was Larry Ellison of Oracle, who earned US$78,440,657 last year, followed by Tesla Motors’ CEO Elon Musk, who also took home just over US$78 million.
In third place, earning US$10 million less than Musk, was Mario Gabelli, head of Gamco Investors.
The report also provided information on the number of hours an average employee would have to work in order to earn the same their boss does in one hour.

Saya pernah jd supervisor ajar budak2 customer svc ni..lebih kurang 300 org sepanjang perkhidmatan ... Malah dgn skill yg mereka ada..mereka mula meniaga spt bidang makanan, transport dan farmasi dsb..tak smpi 5 tahun mereka sudah berjaya.
Wah... hebat anak didik ko AN... abis tu, ko sndri plak kemana akhirnya?

Saya syukur alhamdulillah..berkat sabar saya..berjimat cermat..rumah beberapa biji ada..pencen pun ada..ASB pun ada..tanah pun ada...anak2 plak dah besar2 belaka...dah pencen ni buka ladang dan kolam ikan dan udang galah.
Ni tengah taip ni tepi kolam udang lani...tengah menebas keluarkan peluh..letih..berhenti..kita boss kita kuli..suka suki saya je..
Lagi pun ni kepakaran saya dah pencen yg saya boleh buat...tak mahu buat pun tak pa...duit yg ada tu..cukup lah laki Bini..tak yusahkan org.

yg gaji x cukup ni sila la rompak majikan dan company. x dapat rompak curi tulang pun x pe. pakai internet ofis, pakai kenderaan company bayar, lahap milo nes biskut company, jual baranglusuh, rembat selagi apa saja boleh free. |

Keluaran pertama pada bulan jun lepas..kecik besar saya jual lam sum rm50 sekilo..
Keluaran kedua dijangka bulan Nov atau dis ni...
Ko dtg sendiri..saya jual rm45 ngan ko..saya htr rm56 bergantung brp ratus kilo ko order...ITU lam sum kecik besar...kalau gred A rm62 sekilo...sepit biru punya.
Maideen org pertama forumner CARI pernah rasa.

if nak duit, kena usaha....time muda2,sy belajar sengkang mata tak tido untuk dptkan gaji sekarang (idokla byk mane)...if dulu mls belajo (exceptional to those yg miskin takdak duit nak sambung blaja dan masalah kritkal yg lain), setimpal la dgn gaji yg sekarang,
Org miskin pon dpt bantuan ptptn kan...sy pon dpt biasiswa...bukan nk sombong...hasil yg kita dpt tu, adalah drp usaha kita dulu2 time belajo..even dgree kata kerja kerani bagai...ramai,nama je degree...tak tau dgree yg result camne,yg berckp masa interview tergagp gagap...kalo dah pandai ckp, confident tinggi..mesti org amik kerja lah..
Dah tu nak salah org je dulu..salah diri sendiri...saye pon skarang kerja..ade jugak buat part time...duduk di KL,memag mkn taklah mewah...pandai2 lah nak hidup,if dah tau bukan asal senang...kalo terer berforum je,bisnes online tak nak buat..mcm mane nak tolong diri sendiri
