BAM silent on identity of player who failed doping test

PETALING JAYA: The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) is keeping mum on the identity of its player involved in the recent doping controversy.

BAM president Tengku Tan Sri Mahaleel Tengku Ariff said the association could not name the player due to the regulatory conditions imposed by the Badminton World Federation, pending investigations.

"No one is guilty until proven," he said in a brief press conference after an emergency meeting at a hotel here.

The meeting was attended by some 30 BAM council members who were briefed on the processes and medical aspects of doping.

Tengku Mahaleel added that BAM will form a doping working committee to work with the Youth and Sports Ministry on this matter.

It was reported that a national shuttler allegedly failed a random test at the World Badminton Championships in Copenhagen in late August and was notified of the failed test on Oct 1.

The player was requested to provide a second sample to be tested, the results are expected to be out by Nov 5.
