Dyana’s mum says daughter and Zairil aren’t lovers
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 20 — The mother of DAP’s Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud has denied that her daughter and Bukit Bendera MP Zairil Khir Johari are not lovers.
Malay language news portal Sinar Online reported Dyana Sofya’s mother Yammy Samat as saying in Ipoh yesterday that the woman featured in photographs kissing a man resembling DAP’s Zairil Khir was not her daughter.
“That is not Dyana. Dyana and Zairil are not lovers,” Yammy was quoted saying.
A number of photographs showing a man and a woman bearing striking resemblance to the two young DAP leaders went viral on Facebook yesterday after they were purportedly uploaded from an account of Zairil’s.
The couple were seen smiling and snapping selfies in intimate poses, with one showing the woman planting a kiss on the man’s cheek.
Dyana Sofya and Zairil Khir have both condemned the release of the pictures as “gutter politics”.
But Dyana Sofya also noted that it was not the first time such doctored photographs were used against her.
During the Teluk Intan polls earlier this year, posters bearing the image of Dyana Sofya, who was DAP’s candidate, alongside a bikini-clad actress - with whom she shares a striking facial resemblance - were disseminated at predominantly Malay residential areas in Changkat Jong.
The A4-sized posters did not bear any party emblem but opposition politicians blamed the ruling pact for condoning the smear campaign.
Responding on the latest incident yesterday, Dyana Sofya expressed frustration but said she refused to stoop to the level of her attackers by commenting further.
“Not the first time doctored photos used against me. This is gutter politics and I’m sure it won’t be the last time,” she added.
According to media reports, DAP central executive committee member Zairil Khir is considering taking legal action.
