BUTTERWORTH: A mother was horrified to see her three-year-old son tied up and lying on the floor of her babysitter’s home in Taman Seri Pinang near here.
The 38-year-old factory worker, who was conducting a spot check on the babysitter, immediately raised the alarm when she saw her child’s hands tied behind his back with a belt and his legs bound with a string.
“Only the child and the babysitter’s 11-year-old son were in the flat when the mother dropped in for the surprise check,” a source said. “She immediately called out to neighbours and phoned her babysitter to return home immediately.”
Police arrested the 39-year-old babysitter after the woman lodged a police report.
Apparently, the factory worker, who had been sending her son to the babysitter since June last year, noticed that the child was always looking tired and hungry.
On Tuesday, the mother, who lives in the same Taman Seri Pinang flats, dropped her son off at the babysitter’s home at about 5.30am before leaving for work.
At 10am, she returned to check only to find her son bound. However, the child was not injured.
The babysitter claimed that the child was extremely naughty and hence, had to be tied up.
North Seberang Prai Deputy OCPD Supt Mohd Sukri Awang confirmed the incident, adding that the case was being probed under Section 31 of the Child Act.
