KUALA LUMPUR: The Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) will abide by any decision to relocate its Butterworth base to make way for a billion-ringgit redevelopment, said RMAF chief Jen Datuk Seri Roslan Saad.

“As far as the Air Force is concerned, we will abide by whatever ruling the government makes,” he told a press conference at Wisma Pertahanan.

“We have been told by the government to study the feasibility on our new land and that’s what we are doing now.

“We have studied a few things and submitted our views on the land to the (Defence) ministry,” he added.

It was reported that TSR Capital Bhd, Lembaga Tabung Angkatan Tentera and Pembinaan Bukit Timah Sdn Bhd would redevelop the 407.5ha airbase into an integrated mixed-use project with a potential gross development value of more than RM10bil.

Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishamuddin Tun Hussein said in October that no final decision had been made on the possible relocation of the iconic base.

Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng was quoted as saying that the developer and builder had made an announcement in Bursa Malaysia on Feb 5 that they had received the Government’s approval to redevelop the RMAF base.

It was reported that the RMAF base would be relocated to Ara Kuda, near Tasek Gelugor, while the land currently occupied by RMAF in Teluk Air Tawar, about 8km from Butterworth directly opposite Penang Island, would be transformed into “a city of arts and leisure”.

On a separate matter, Roslan said a team of RMAF staff, comprising 46 aircrew and technicians, was already in Seville, Spain, for training in four Airbus A400M airlifter aircraft scheduled to be delivered early by the first quarter of next year.

He added that the Pilatus PC-7 MK II training aircraft was expected to be delivered by early 2016.

kt area situ byk restoren western. aku pun tak paham celah mane yg pembangunan bernilai 10billion nye sbb kawasan tu mcm kwsn pinggir bandar je pun. kalau btul nk buat city of arts of leisure tu sapolah nk pegi sana? penduduk rumah teres kah?
