Netizen insults Jakim but apologises after backlashA screenshot of Ang Tan Loong's offensive comments after a 'Star Online' story on a superbike accident.
[size=100%]KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 19, 2015: Another netizen has come under fire following an insult directed at the Islamic Development Department (Jakim) and Muslims.
A screenshot of Facebook user Ang Tan Loong’s comment under The Star Online‘s news piece, calling on Jakim to open a file case and urging a ban on Muslims riding superbikes has gone viral. This followed an accident yesterday involving a superbiker in Bentong, Pahang,
“Jakim please open file in this case since you don’t have much to do.
“Muslims should be banned from riding such superbikes. Only bikes and vehicles pulled by cows are permitted on Muslims,” Ang’s comment read in the screenshot, which was posted in the Friends of BN — Barisan Nasional Facebook page.
The post has thus far garnered close to 1,000 likes and more than 100 shares.
“The Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) should take action against this person,” the image description, tagging the PDRM’s Facebook page, read.
Ang’s comment received massive public backlash from netizens.
Mohd Izra Faris urged the police to arrest Ang and send him back to China.
While some called for the return of the Internal Security Act (ISA), there was one comment warning of another May 13 racial riot.
“There are still those who are not afraid of the May 16 tragedy. Do not let history repeat itself,” Azahizran Akrar commented. The May 16 reference led several netizens to question him what had happened on that date.
Ang has since apologised on his Facebook page and said he had deleted the comment.
“To the Muslim community, I Ang Tan Loong hereby, without reservations admit and apologise to the inappropriate, sensitive comments.
“For the info of all, upon realising my mistake early this morning I had immediately removed and deleted such comments.
“Unfortunately, some here had taken screenshots and circulated without my knowledge.
“I stand corrected and it is now beyond my ability to prevent such circulations and it’s my fervent hope that this issue be put to rest.” his Facebook posting read.
However, he had deleted his apology at the time this article was written.
Last week, Lawyers for Liberty executive director Eric Paulsen was remanded for two days following a tweet he made against Jakim, alleging that it was spreading extremism every Friday via its sermons.
