KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 27 ― The federal government must instruct the developer for the Damansara-Shah Alam expressway (Dash) and the Malaysian Highway Authority (MHA) to omit Damansara Perdana from the project's final alignment, said a lobby group opposing the highway. Say No to Dash (SNTD) pointed out that Dash's own environmental impact assessment (EIA) report had noted flaws with the current alignment option that cuts through Damansara Perdana and recommended the option of Mutiara Damansara, a different neighbourhood. “We strongly urge the works minister to instruct Prolintas (Bhd) and [MHA] to remove Damansara Perdana from the alignment and consider other options that do not run through densely populated neighbourhoods,” SNTD said in a statement here. “We will be seeking a meeting with the works minister, Malaysian Highway Authority and Prolintas again to discuss this request.” The group said it will continue to resist the highway and explore all available avenues to block the project if authorities do not comply with its demands. Putrajaya has approved the construction of the Dash highway, but directed Prolintas and the MHA to examine objections raised by some residents on the alignment route and that possible changes might be made into Dash’s final design.
Works Minister Datuk Fadillah Yusof told Malay Mail Online in a text message last Friday that Prolintas has met its prerequisites and received the approval effective December 25, 2014. It was previously reported that Prolintas’ concession deal with the Works Ministry had lapsed on December 24, after being extended once before. Fadillah had said then that any decision on extending the concession agreement of the Dash expressway would be made only after a “detailed discussion” with government entities including the Ministry of Finance (MoF), the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) and the LLM. SNTD previously claimed that Prolintas tried to conceal the fact that work on the Dash project has already begun despite no official confirmation from the Works Ministry or the Selangor government. According to Prolintas, Dash will be a 20.1km, three-lane, dual carriageway expressway starting from Puncak Perdana in Shah Alam to the Penchala interchange. With 12 interchanges, the RM11.5 billion expressway plans to link drivers to Lebuhraya Damansara Puchong and Sprint highways, which residents claim are already congested during peak hours. Dash will serve motorists from Puncak Perdana, Alam Suria, Denai Alam, Kampung Melayu Subang, Jalan Sungai Buloh, the Rubber Research Institute Malaysia, Kota Damansara, Damansara Perdana and Mutiara Damansara, Prolintas said. - See more at: http://m.themalaymailonline.com/ ... thash.LKr7ZY9r.dpuf
