KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 26 — Borders bookstore branch manager Nik Raina Nik Abdul Aziz was discharged by the Shariah High Court here today of selling a book deemed unIslamic by local religious authorities.

The discharge however does not amount to an acquittal.

But the 38-year-old is now finally released from the cloud over her head for the last three years when the Federal Territory Islamic Affairs Department (JAWI) charged her for allegedly selling and distributing the book by Canadian author Irshad Manji “Allah, Love and Liberty” which it claimed to contradict Islamic laws.

“Although Malaysia practises two legal systems, the civil and the Shariah court systems, the spirit of both are the same.

“The court also took into consideration of the absence of a clear status of the approval to the prosecution’s appeal.

“The court is satisfied and the accused, Nik Raina is discharged without amounting to acquittal,” judge Mohd Aman B Mat  Zain said.

P/S Civil court dah lepas, Shariah pun dah lepas.. aku berharap sangat lepas ni Nik Raina ni saman JAWI..
