PETALING JAYA: The Public Accounts Committee has called for an immediate audit of the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) by the Auditor-General's Department to quell rumours and further negative perception.
PAC chairman Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed (pic), in a statement Thursday, said they had identified several issues that needed to be audited.
This included the source of RM2bil in funds used to clear off loans from local banks, the infusion of new funds from the Government worth RM3bil, among others.
He said other issues that needed to be audited included the investment agreement with Petrosaudi and discrepancies in statements as to whether the Cayman Island investments were returned to Malaysia or not.
"The PAC wants the Department to do an audit on 1MDB before we call them before the committee in the near future," said Nur Jazlan.
He added that the PAC felt it was time for the Department to conduct an audit on the issues surrounding 1MDB as the Government's image was being affected by rumours and negative perception surrounding the investment body.
Nur Jazlan pointed out that 1MDB is wholly owned by the Government and all funds used for its operations and investments belonged to the rakyat.
"The rakyat have to know the real story and the Government must be transparent regarding the 1MDB matter.
"If it is true that the investments and operations of the company are legal, let it be verified by a Government department, in this case the National Audit Department," said Nur Jazlan.http://www.thestar.com.my/News/N ... C-wants-1MDB-audit/
