Sg Semenyih water treatment plant resumed operation

SHAH ALAM: The Sungai Semenyih water treatment plant has resumed operation at 9.30pm yesterday with a full capacity of 680 million litres a day (MLD).

The water treatment plant was shut down at 5.15pm yesterday due to high level of Manganese and Ammonia in Sungai Semenyih.

Infrastructure and Public Utilities, Agriculture Modernisation and Agro-Based Industry Committee chairman, Zaidy Abdul Talib when contacted said the levels of Manganese and Ammonia in Sungai Semenyih have gone down to permissible level which enabled the plant to resume operations last night.

"The pH for raw water is 6.97 while the Ammonia and Manganese levels recorded a reading of 0.81 parts per million (ppm) and 0.23 ppm respectively compared to 1.60 ppm for Ammonia and 1.51 ppm for Manganese recorded last night," he said.

However, he said the source of the contaminants have yet to be identified.

More than 400,000 households in around 400 areas at four districts in Selangor will face a three-day water disruption starting today following the shutdown of the Sungai Semenyih treatment plant yesterday.

There are 216 areas in Hulu Langat (146,954 households), 61 areas in Sepang (148,236 households), 72 areas in Kuala Langat (45,029 households) and another 39 areas affected in Petaling (135,000 households).

Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor (Syabas) corporate communication and public affairs general manager Priscilla Alfred said water supply would recover in stages over less than three days.

Water supply is expected to be fully restored on Friday midnight.

Mari dr loji najis. yg korang duk membuang tu, tu ler source of ammonia. bila musim panas mmg problem nih sbb byk sgt loji najis upstream of Sg. Semenyih tu. Kebykn loji najis lama x de facility utk remove ammonia. musim hujan/ air sungai byk xde masalah sgt psl apa yg discharged by loji najis boleh diluted dgn kuantiti air sungai yg byk. bila musim kering gini lah jadinya..opkos ada byk lg punca ammonia selain loji najis, contohnya landfill. tp yg paling senang point source pollution yg diketahui ialah loji iwk. heheh.

ni drpd wiki

  • Ammoniacal nitrogen (NH3-N), is a measure for the amount ofammonia, a toxic pollutant often found in landfill leachate and in waste products, such as sewage, liquid manure and other liquid organic waste products.
