Putrajaya to tighten noose on Internet, social media abusers

Communication and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek said his ministry will be amending the Communications and Multimedia Act, and Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission Act, especially provisions related to governance and enforcement.

"The amendments are expected to be tabled by October this year or early next year," he told Datuk Bung Moktar Radin (BN-Kinabatangan) in Parliament today.

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) had reported that Internet abuse by Malaysians increased between 15% and 20% last year.

As of July 2014, there were 1,457 cases involving the misuse and abuse of social media compared to 2,137 cases from January to December in 2013.

Bung Moktar had voiced his concerns over abuse of the Internet, especially by those who insult Malay rulers and make racially-charged statements.

To this, Ahmad Shabery said there were 11 cases where individuals were found to have insulted Malay rulers and were fined between RM10,000 and RM200,000.

One was the case of site supervisor Chow Mun Fai, who was last year sentenced to a year's jail after pleading guilty to making remarks that disparaged Islam and the Prophet Muhammad via his “Chow Jack” Facebook account.

There are also cases, which are currently under trial, while some are with the Attorney-General Chambers pending further action.

"I agree that the laws needed to be reviewed, this is why we are looking at the current legislations comprehensively because the current ones are from 1998," Ahmad Shabery said, adding that the ministry was engaging relevant stakeholders. – March 19, 2015.

kat malayisa raja2 yg boleh dipuji dan wajib didoakan kesejahteraan kecil saja bilangannya...contoh terbaik sultan kelantan....

Institusi raja tu sendiri kena ingat lah,  tanpa rakyat ni, mereka pun takde jadi raja...raja dan rakyat kena seiring..saling hormat menghormati...perangai sesetengah kerabat yg kurang ajar, haruslah ditegur...bab hina raja atau kerabat tu kalu tanpa bersebab mmg lah boleh dikategorikan tiada adab dan harus diajar takmkira melayu cina...
