[Tempatan] Takata airbag ibarat bom jangka di kereta

Honda Motor Co dan Takata telah disaman oleh bapa kepada Law Suk Leh, iaitu wanita kelahiran Malaysia yang ketika itu sedang hamil yang terkorban akibat kecederaan serius yang berpunca daripada beg udara selepas terbabit dalam kemalangan pada Julai tahun lalu.

Saman yang dikemukakan oleh Law Ngee Chiong di mahkamah persekutuan, Miami, Amerika Syarikat kerana inflator terbabit diperbuat di LaGrange, Georgia.
Suk Leh, 42 tahun, yang memandu model City buatan tahun 2003 terkorban selepas besi daripada beg udara terbabit tertusuk pada leher mendiang sejurus selepas terlibat dilanggar oleh kenderaan lain. Kejadian tersebut berlaku di Sibu, Sarawak.

Mendiang yang ketika itu hamil lapan bulan, meninggal dunia dalam perjalanan ke hospital. Manakala bayi dalam kandungannya yang dikeluarkan selepas kematian ibunya, pula turut meninggal dunia tiga hari kemudian.

Hakim Daerah AS Federico Moreno sedang menilai lebih dua dozen kes yang melibatkan kejadian yang hampir serupa. Di mana kes Suk Leh adalah salah satu daripada enam kematian yang berpunca daripada masalah beg udara keluaran Takata yang mengalami kerosakan.

Are your vehicle's air bags a safety product or a lethal danger?

                                                         
You would think a company that makes vehicle air bags — a critical safety feature — would go all-out to assure the world that its product is, you know, safe.
And if something went terribly wrong, causing this safety product to kill? You'd expect the company to do everything possible to protect lives and its own reputation.

Takata Corp. of Japan apparently doesn't see it that way: the company's air bags, found in millions of cars in America, sometimes explode when activated. But rather than take full responsibility for its egregious quality lapses, Takata hems, haws and resists demands from U.S. safety regulators.

This is a company that needs to be forced, or shamed, into doing the right thing.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration went after Takata in November, demanding that the company issue a national recall for driver-side air bags after evidence mounted of a horrific problem: In certain circumstances, Takata air bags in older cars can blow apart like a bomb when activated, shooting metal shrapnel into the passenger compartment, and sometimes the driver. Six deaths have been attributed to the phenomenon.

Takata refused to issue the national recall, sticking instead to a narrower regional recall because the company believes its air bags are only susceptible to malfunction in areas of the country with persistent high humidity. The regulators disagreed, pointing to one or two cases of exploding air bags in North Carolina and California, regions with milder climates. Five automakers lost patience with Takata and declared national recalls on their own.

The regulators made a second demand of Takata: they want all of the company's records related to its air bag manufacturing process, testing protocols and anything else to help solve the riddle of the exploding air bags because the exact cause is still unknown.

Additionally, the NHTSA wanted assurances that Takata employees would explain how to analyze all that data. The demand seemed necessary because a Takata executive who testified before Congress late last year came off as evasive.
Late last week, the NHTSA reported that Takata is playing games instead of cooperating fully with the investigation. Yes, Takata dumped 2.4 million pages of documents on the regulators, but after several meetings with Takata's lawyers the company still hasn't provided the explanations regulators need.
        Takata is being fined $14,000 a day, the maximum, until it complies. The company insists it is cooperating, pointing to the documents and regular meetings with government engineers, but Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx doesn't buy it: "We need Takata's cooperation, and so far they have not demonstrated it."
         Why are automakers recalling so many cars?
   
This has to end. When the government demanded the recall in November, five deaths were attributed to Takata's air bags. Now it's six: Last month, Carlos Solis of suburban Houston got into a low-speed collision in his 2002 Honda Accord; the air bag detonated, sending a metal disc hurtling into Solis' neck and killing him.
About 17 million vehicles in the U.S. with Takata air bags are now under recall; as of late December about 2 million have been replaced. Takata needs to stop acting like a company paralyzed by fear of lawsuits and the cost of replacement units and fully cooperate. The driving public needs to know what went wrong with Takata's product, and every possibly defective air bag needs to be replaced.
    If the regulators need a bigger stick to drive home the point, they should use it. Potential remedies include going to the Justice Department to force executives to cooperate. Car companies also need to make sure they aren't holding back. This week Honda's CEO announced plans to step down, paying the price for the company's lax response.
Five automakers are conducting national recalls of older model vehicles (mainly from 2000 to 2008) for defective driver-side Takata air bags: BMW, Chrysler, Ford, Honda and Mazda. Five more are conducting regional recalls: GM, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Subaru and Toyota.

berapa banyak kenderaan yang terbabit guna airbags takata nih terutama honda dan toyota model lama masih dok berada di jalanraya M'sia kan

Uissh dah di buat kajian dan dah ada bukti konkrit pun yang airbags tu adakalanya boleh diaktifkan agar meletup macam bom memuntahkan berbagai serpihan besi keluar ke muka pemandu dan penumpang  .

Cuba hampa tengok year make kenderaan2 yang guna airbags tersenarai kat mainpage nih, sudah tentulah banyak terdapat kat tempat used car di M'sia ni kaaan sebab tahunnya tu kebelakang aje sokmo.

So pada yang nak beli used car tu silalah alert pada info kat atas tu hokeh kang pi beli bom jangka lah plak tak ke naya .

Kalau kat US pun masih berlambak kenderaan tak di recall lagi , inikan plak kat M'sia yang cukup ramai penguasa yang memanjang buat donno je bab-bab nih lagiii lah bersepah2 kat used car dealer dengan kat atas jalan, malah mungkin sebelah rumah jiran korang tu pun ada sebijik pe, so jangan dok tumpang tak tentu pasal sebelum pastikan betul2 hokeh

Kalau tarak dalam senarai kat atas tu maka bukan yang boleh meletup boom boom boom lah jawabnya... kot , kerana aku pu tak tahu kenderaan yang selain tu guna company mana punya airbag style macam mana kalau meletup keluar apa no idea whatsoever  

Tapi kiranya yang penting jangan lah pi beli yang termasuk dalam senarai siap2 tu kerana probability untuk terjadi ledakan apabila menerima impak adalah teramat besar sesangat

Sebenarnya bagi kenderaan yang telah dilengkapi sistem srs, komputer yang mengawal fungsi utama srs airbag akan analize kesiapan unit setiap kali enjin dihidupkan. dan andai kata komputer mengesan kegagalan fungsi airbag kamu, indicator akan menunjukkannya pada panel.  Begitu juga dengan lain2 ciri spt abs, ebd, ba, ets etc2 ciri yang ada.

Jadi kita kena alert dan rajin mencari dan menyelesaikan jika sesuatu kelainan dikesan pada panel penunjuk kenderaan. Bagi memastikan ia dalam keadaan terbaik dan membantu meminimakan kecederaan.

Adakah kenderaan yang di recall tu semua tak dilengkapi sistem srs nih yang menyebabkan airbag malfunction pada kenderaan tu tak dapat di kesan lebih awal oleh pemilik kenderaan tu sendiri terlebih dulu ?  

Terutama honda oddysey 2011 yang boleh dikatakan baru jugak lah kan modelnya tu . Yang honda city membabitkan kejadian kematian di sarawak tu nampak macam srs dia kantoi untuk bagi signal kalau kereta tu ada srs la kan ?

Tapi masaalahnya bukannya airbag tak keluar langsung ketika accident tapi cara ia keluar tu yang jadi merbahaya sebab ia pecah setelah keluar lalu melayangkan serpihan besi merata hala. So malfunction berlaku setelah ia di deploy jadi camne srs nak bagi signal kalau lagu tu even though ada srs sekalipun pada kenderaan tu .

Sepatutnya maker kena recall semua unit dalam batch berkenaan apa bila sudah terdapat kes yang menjurus kepada kegagalan berkenaan.  Tapi ada sesetengahnya ignorekan saja.

ha'ah, pemilik2 yang tak di recall lagi kenderaan depa elok depa berdoa la agar kalau accident kang airbag tu gagal berfungsi langsung agar tak dak lah nak berdepan dengan peluru besi terpelanting ke leher .

sebelum accident lagi dok kena berdoa agar airbag tak berfungsi langsung, lagi parah kan di buatnya .

seram je naik kereta takut kena bump sket je dah terpaksa berdepan dengan firing squad depan muka memang horror sungguh la haih.
