Demolition of Brickfields' 100 Quarters to commence soon

KUALA LUMPUR (May 26): The 100 Quarters in Brickfields will soon be a memory, as Malaysian Resources Corporation Bhd (MRCB) is ready to commence demolition of the site. This was revealed at a media briefing today.

According to executive vice president, Datuk Dell Akbar Khan, the 3.5 acre land has not been handed over to MRCB, but due to feedback from residents around the site regarding the security of the area, permission has been granted by DBKL and land owner Bahagian Pengurusan Hartanah Jabatan Perdana Menteri to start demolition as soon as possible. The cost of the demolition will be borne by the developer.

Although Dell was tight-lipped on what exactly will be built on the land, as it is still not handed over by the authorities, plans for a mixed-development is on the drawing board. There might be three towers of about 40-storeys, mainly residential units with some commercial or retail components. Also, a covered walkway connecting the future development to KL Sentral is in the plans.

In addition to the 3.5 acres of land where the 100 Quarters are standing on, a 1.5-acre plot next to the quarters is also going to be handed over to MRCB. In total, the developer will have five acres to develop on, which is in the terms of the contract with the authorities. The 1.5 acre plot is owned by the Land Office.
