Case of woman found at accident site reclassified as murder

... Police have classified the case of a 27-year-old woman who was found dead after an accident at Km163 of the East Coast Highway near here last Saturday as murder.
District police chief Deputy Superintendent Mat Rizal Mat Radzi said initial investigations revealed the car driver, a 29-year-old man, claimed that the woman had died due to the impact of the crash while the duo were travelling from Kuala Lumpur to Kuantan.
"However, the police forensic team with the assistance from the Jengka Hospital pathologist did not find any injuries or cuts on the woman. There were bruises on her hands and we believe the victim might have died of suffocation.
"The suspect claimed he had stopped at a rest area along the highway where the duo had sexual intercourse.
Passerby found the woman wrapped in a white blanket at the accident spot," he said, adding police did not find the woman's clothes or undergarments in the vehicle.
He said the suspect claimed he knew the victim for three years but the woman's family in Felda Chini 4, near Pekan, said they do not know the driver and informed the police that the victim was engaged to man from Perak.
The driver, who suffered minor injuries in the crash, has been remanded till July 28 to facilitate investigations.
In the 9.20 am accident, the driver from Kuala Terengganu was believed to have lost control of the car resulting it to crash into the divider.
