The 30-year-old Hong Kong woman who was
found guilty two weeks ago of assaulting a police officer using her breast was sentenced to three-and-a-half months in prison at a court hearing this morning.
Ng Lai-ying, who was arrested during an
anti-parallel-trading protest in March, alleged that she was molested by a cop. The accused officer, however, claimed Ng bumped into him with her breast on purpose.
Deputy Magistrate Chan accused the woman of "trumping up the allegation", an act which he deemed to be "malicious", and convicted her of assaulting the police officer with her breast on July 16.
Ng, along with three others, attended Tuen Mun Magistrates Court for sentencing this morning. Ng was sentenced to three months and 15 days behind bars. All defendants subsequently applied for and were granted bail on 5,000 HKD while pending for appeal.
Chan revealed that he had been threatened since the previous court hearing, but emphasized that he had no intention of raising or lowering the penalty out of anger or fear, reaffirming that threatening wouldn't affect the sentence.
Chan, who reportedly had dealt with three cases from the March 1 protest, described such demonstrations as "rampant". He believed the court should impose deterring punishment in order to warn people of the seriousness of assaulting police officers.
The case attracted nearly 100 visitors this morning, with a full house of over 50 people seated in the court room. Several cops and police vehicles were standing by outside the court.
