Wanted – five involved in riots

ALOR SETAR: Kedah police are looking for five more people involved in the rioting in Bedong that saw 11 motorcycles going up in flames and a dog’s throat slit.

Police have already detained 14 men in Sungai Petani and seized four swords, a Rambo knife and three snooker cues from the men aged between 20 and 30.

Kedah CID chief ACP Mohd Nashir Ya said they were looking for K. Sukumaran (nicknamed Boka Sasi), 28; G. Thiyagu (Anaconda), 26; Y. Thibagar (Bantha), 26; S. Genga Naidu (Gobi/Jollu), 23; and R. Prabakaran (Sini), 22.

“They were involved in clashes between three groups of the Gang 35 triad,” he said.

“The riots started following a misunderstanding among the drunk triad members during a fire-walking ceremony at a Hindu temple in Bedong at about 6pm on Sunday.

“After the incident, a group of about 15 men, armed with swords, attacked another group at about 10.30pm in Taman Bandar Baru, Bedong,” ACP Mohd Nashir said.

“A 25-year-old man was injured on his shoulder and left hand.

“But the assaulted group then sought revenge by going to a palm oil plantation about 5km away and burnt 11 motorcycles that belonged to their attackers.

“At about midnight, 12 men on motorcycles went to a house in Taman Emas, Bedong, where they vandalised three motorcycles and damaged the house fencing.

“They slit the throat of the family pet dog and tried to attack family members,” he added.

He said the family locked themselves in one of the rooms and claimed that the attackers left with a family member’s purse and handphone.
