PUTRAJAYA: Tony Pua should ‘man up’ and take up 1Malaysia Development Bhd’s (1MDB) Arul Kanda challenge to square off in a televised debate. Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the DAP lawmaker should not keep making U-turns in his stand on the issue by imposing conditions on Arul on the 1MDB issue.
Pua, who is the Member of Parliament for Petaling Jaya Utara, had initially challenged Arul, but later said the event should be in a question-and-answer session format instead. Zahid, who is Home Minister, said Pua should be man enough to face the 1MDB, who had even agreed to hold a televised live debate.
Arul, he said, had even withdrawn his earlier condition in which he had asked Pua to resign from his position as a Public Accounts Committee member first. "He (Pua) should retract the conditions he has set for Arul and face off in the debate.
He should not politicise the method of the debate. "Pua should accept the challenge in good faith in efforts to address the (1MDB) issue amicably. No attempt should be made to continue twisting the facts," said Zahid. Zahid said he had no objection if the debate were to be aired live.

KUALA LUMPUR: The debate between 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) chief Arul Kanda and DAP’s Tony Pua should be held this year or as soon as possible, said Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Salleh Said Keruak.
This, he said, should be done due to public interest. Salleh said the ministry has contacted Arul on the issue, and would be in touch with Pua, who is Petaling Jaya Utara MP, soon.
“There seems to be an issue on the format of how the debate should be held. Pua wants it to be in a question-and-answer format but for a debate to take place, there should be a moderator," he told reporters at the parliament lobby today.
Salleh cited the debate between the former Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and former Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Shabery Cheek in July 2008 as an example. That debate, he said, was held in front of a live audience.
He said RTM had proposed that the Arul-Pua debate be held in a studio in front of a small audience. "This debate is different. We propose to have it in a studio and telecast live," he said. He said RTM has agreed to prepare a venue for the hour-long debate.

Friday date for Arul Kanda-Tony Pua debate? 3 NOVEMBER 2015 @ 11:30 AM
KUALA LUMPUR: The much-anticipated debate between 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) chief Arul Kanda and DAP lawmaker Tony Pua could take place this Friday.
Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak said RTM had suggested the date and would appoint a moderator for the event. The minister said he has suggested that the debate be held from 9pm to 10pm. Both Arul and Pua, he said, would be contacted for their agreement on the date.
"However, there will not be any live audience as we would like the event to be held in a conducive environment," he told reporters after an event at Universiti Putra Malaysia in Serdang today. The minister also noted that the debate would follow a set of guidelines on what issues can be touched upon in the debate.
