Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh forumer bod Menjahit, Mengait & Kesenian Pertukangan Tangan..

Thread ini dibuka untuk kita berkongsi pasal seni menjilid buku @ bookbinding... Pada dua minggu yang lepas, I berpeluang belajar jahit buku di LittleSyam and I totally hooked on this art..

Ini buku yang I belajar jahit kat workshop tu..satu Coptic Stitch , satu lagi Secret Belgian Stitch

Bookbinding ialah satu proses di mana kita mencantumkan helaian kertas dengan jarum dan benang menjadi sebuah buku .. yang best pasal bookbinding ini sepertimana seni kraftangan handmade yang lain ialah, kita boleh personalised buku kita ikut fabric,jenis dan saiz kertas yang kita suka... awesome possum...

Ada banyak jenis jahitan bookbinding  ni..so far yang I kenal beberapa jahitan sahaja..

• Coptic stitch
  

Coptic binding or Coptic sewing comprises methods of bookbinding employed by early Christians in Egypt, the Copts, and used from as early as the 2nd century AD to the 11th century. The term is also used to describe modern bindings sewn in the same style.

Coptic bindings, the first true codices, are characterized by one or more sections of parchment, papyrus, or paper sewn through their folds, and (if more than one section) attached to each other with chain stitch linkings across the spine, rather than to the thongs or cords running across the spine that characterise European bindings from the 8th century onwards

Coptic stitch ni best sebab dia versatile..boleh buat corak-corak...dan boleh lay flat bila dibuka so sesuai diguna untuk sketch book..





Ada dua jenis Coptic Stitch;

1. signature(kertas) dijahit sekali dengan kulit buku.

Contoh :



2. signature (kertas) dijahit asing dari kulit buku.. Maknanya kita boleh jahit signatures dulu pastu baru lekatkan dengan kulit buku (harcover)

Yes it is..sangat seronok jahit buku ni... walau tangan sakit sikit bila kena selalu tarik wax thread tu utk ketatkan but still bila dah jadi buku tu happy sangat...

Just for information, kat Kinokuniya next week still ada bookbinding workshop for Long Stitch and Kettle Stitch...yang berminat bolehlah join..




I would loveeeee to join the Kettle Stitch class but sadly takde duit dah nak join any class..   duit tabung dah habis spend beli kertas acid free,craft paper and tools for bookbinding..huhu... T.T

Next stitch will be

• Japanese Stab binding..
  

Perbezaan Stab binding dengan stitch yang lain ialah, untuk Coptic stitch contohnya, kertas dilipat dua dan baru dijahit, tapi untuk stab binding ,kertas tak dilipat dua..hanya helaian kertas ditindih bersama,dibuat lubang dan dijahit dengan kulit buku sekali...

Kelebihan stab binding ni, kerja penulisan boleh dilakukan dulu, dah selesai, baru binding...hanya perlu tinggalkan ruang di tepi kiri helaian kertas untuk dijahit...
so let say kita ada beberapa helaian surat cinta nak dihimpun, atau poskad-poskad yang diterima dari kawan boleh la guna stab binding sebagai salah satu cara untuk menghimpunkan koleksi tersebut...

Kita tak pernah cuba jahit stab binding, tapi berdasarkan tutorial nampak macam senang nak buat...







Benang pula tak terhad untuk guna linen thread, nak guna reben pun boleh...

Jahitan ketiga kita nak kenal-kenal ciri2nya ialah jahitan Kettle Stitch...

I don't really understand this stitch sebab tak pernah buat dan info kat internet pun jumpa tak banyak, cuma dari gambar boleh dilihat yg jahitan kettle stitch ni memerlukan beberapa helaian kertas dilipat dua menjadi signatures seperti coptic stitch cuma bezanya ia dijahit dengan menggunakan bookbinding tape/cotton tape/ribbon or leather strips sbg stabiliser mungkin dan tape ni akan dilekatkan kepada hard cover buku tersebut......

Jahitan ni boleh dibiarkan lurus sahaja atau dibuat knot  so that it will form a butterfly-pattern... bagi kita,bila buat knot tu baru nampak cantik stitch ni...

so pretty la the kettle stitch..dah decide taknak pasrah pasrah..tak dapat nak join kelas Ahad ni,so kita decide nak try belajar sendiri ikut tutorial kat internet..jumpa tutorial ni...macam boleh faham sikit2 stepnya..huhu..

hobi ni mesti memakan belanja yg besar tak? quality paper is not cheap. kena pakai byk lak tu nak buat buku

mula2 nak beli tools dia consider tinggi la juga..huhu...tapi cheaper than sewing la sbb takyah guna mesin jahit..hehe...



ya, acid free paper mahal..so kalau nak jimat beli paper biasa pun boleh...

Antara alat-alat yang diperlukan untuk bookbinding...






- Paper
- Kadbod/kertas tebal untuk cover
- Wax thread and needle.. untuk Secret Belgian binding akan guna U-shaped needle..
- Gergaji kecil
- Book collar angle cover
- Scraper
- Glue..better guna acid-free glue...tapi PVA glue pun boleh je guna..
- Cutter and cutting board

Currently kita nak buat satu buku.. Coptic Stitch..tapi tak attached dengan cover..akan glue cover tu bila dah siap nanti...

I forgot already how to start the stitch...hehe..>.< sebab bila cover buku tak attached sekali, cara nak mulakan jahitan tu lain berbanding dengan coptic stitch yg bersambung cover dan signatures...

tengah try nak refresh balik cara nak mula dengan refer some youtube video...
