Suicidal mum pulled to safety Don’t do it: A policeman persuading the woman not to jump from the budget hotel in Puchong. PETALING JAYA: A 35-year-old Chinese national who tried to jump off the top of a budget hotel with her one-year-old baby was pulled to safety, thanks to prompt attention by the authorities. The woman, who was seen clutching her child at the edge of a ledge atop the building, was stopped by several firemen who rushed to the scene in Puchong after receiving an alert at 9am here yesterday. It is learnt that the woman had quarrelled with her husband before the incident. The scene of the dramatic rescue took place just a few shops away from the Bukit Puchong police station. Puchong Fire and Rescue Department senior officer Sihat Bedol said it took the firemen about 30 minutes to grab the mother and child to safety. “When we arrived, the policemen were already there, trying to persuade her not to jump. Luckily, one of the sergeants speaks Chinese and we managed to communicate with her. “We pleaded with her not to jump. At first, she was very aggressive and threatened to leap off if we got any closer to her. “We were also worried about the safety of the baby as she was standing right at the edge of the ledge,” he said. The woman was later handed over to the police.
