    Hi Rough,

I also have the pink rose like the one in your second pictur ...

I have yet managed to ID this rose, but it is widely known as ros kampung pink since it exhibits similar growth habits - leggy, pliable, very fragrant, etc. All rose kampungs in my opinion are OGR since they carry habits known only to damask and centifolia; but this particular variety could also be a modern hybrid of these ancestry, no one can tell.

This rose kampung in my garden is a toddler, but yes, it grows very fast, double the rate of its hybrid counterparts within months. However, let me advice you based on my experience with my maroon ros kampung. My maroon ros kampung has been with me for about 2 1/2 years, and at this moment it is about 6 and half ft tall; though it's height is very dependent on the support it receives; the increment in height seems to slow down a bit lately; but it grows in diameter. But this sluggish growth may be contributed by my gardening treatment - small pot/my pruning technique, etc, but there's no excuse either to say that this plant probably have reached its maximum height. Only time can tell.

My suggestion is to remain using stick for the time being for reasons that it is easier for you to control and shape the bush. Pergola may be too early to commit to. Occasionally you need spraying your bush, having it too tall may pose difficulty unless you don't mind such hassle. There are sticks that extend more than 7 ft; which currently I am using. If there should be a need for higher stick later on, I was thinking a decorative pillar may be best alternative to pergola. Trellis is good too ( i am also using a trellis for one of my roses) as they can be easily installed and dismantled. Later, you can transfer the rose to pergola if you want to, once the rose has established or reached your preferred height.

Unless, if you wish to experiment planting it immediately with pergola and nurture it higher, I suggest you do so. You'll never know. But I would suggest that you planting it on the ground for maximum rooting. In pots, they most probably remain midgets.

Below is a picture of ros kampung planted wildly and in its natural state, that i've taken sometime ago. The bush is wide and yes of course with no support. The height, my guess is 7 ft.

Rough, thanks for your lengthy explaination. I think I will use the 7ft stick as suggested by you for the time being and will decide later whether to trim it down or to make a trellis.
