Bayern Munich win top clash 
BERLIN, Sept. 29 (Xinhua) -- Bayern Munich won the top clash at second-placed Bayer Leverkusen 1-0 on Saturday, while defending champion Stuttgart lost to newly-elevated Hansa Rostock 1-2.  Miroslav Klose set up Italian international Luca Toni for the decisive goal with 40 minutes gone, helping Bayern stay unbeaten in the new season. It was the sixth goal of the season for Toni, making the powerful forward take the second berth at the scorers' list, two goals after top scorer Klose. With 20 points in hands, Bayern are now four points clear of FCSchalke 04, who beat Hertha BSC Berlin 1-0 at home earlier on Friday, sealing the second place. This is the first defeat for Bayer after six unbeaten competitive matches. "It was a hard-fought victory," Bayern coach Ottmar Hitzfeld said after the match. "There were some critical moments. The ball was clearly over the line on the disallowed goal. After a call like that everyone is a bit nervous," he added. A big surprise for German soccer fans, superior Stuttgart suffered a shameful defeat in Rostock 1-2. The defeat is also a serious setback for Stuttgart before their match in the Champions League against Barcelona next Tuesday. Tobias Rathgeb, with his first goal of the season, put Hansa infront, while defender Orestes extended their lead. German international Mario Gomez could only reduced the deficitin the 73rd minute for Stuttgart. This is the third win for the host team, which also means that they move out of the relegation zone. Karlsruhe defeated powerful Borussia Dortmund 3-1, winning the fourth out of their last five games to climb to third place. The biggest sweeping win of the season was achieved by Werder Bremen, unexpectedly beat Arminia Bielefeld 8-1. Bosnian international Zvjezdan Misimovic rescued Nurnberg a point against his former club VfL Bochum. He scored the equalizer in the 81th minute. The two teams shared six goals in this dramatic match. Without a single win in the past six matches, Nuremberg remain in the drop zone while Bochum, who have now not won in five matches, remain in the lower regions of the table. In another match, Hamburger SV saw an unwilling tie of 2-2 with VfL Wolfsburg. On Sunday, there will be clashes, one is between Hannover 96 and MSV Duisburg, and the other, Energie Cottbus is to face Eintracht Frankfurt at home. |

Werder Bremen 1-3 Olympiakos: First away win
BREMEN, October 3 (Champions League) - Olympiacos finally registered their first away win in the Champions League at the 32nd attempt after coming from behind to see off Werder Bremen.
It looked as though it would be another miserable trip for the visitors when they fell behind to Hugo Almeida's 32nd-minute opener.
But Panagiotis Lemonis' side stormed back, equalising through Ieroklis Stoltidis before late goals from Christos Patsatzoglou and Darko Kovacevic secured a dramatic win.
Bremen beat Arminia Bielefeld 8-1 in the Bundesliga at the weekend and they started with the determination of a side full of confidence.
They ought to have opened the scoring just six minutes in. A long punt forward from the back was flicked on by Markus Rosenberg for his strike partner Almeida but, having got clear of the last defender, his shot was straight at the legs of Olympiacos keeper Antonis Nikopolidis.
The Greeks responded with a header from Lomana LuaLua but it lacked the power to beat debutant Christian Vander in the Bremen goal.
Bremen remained the dominant force and only a fine block from Raul Bravo prevented Almeida from slotting home after he cleverly turned inside the area.
The Ethniki Katigoria side were playing primarily on the break but it was a policy which almost reaped its rewards midway through the first half.
Cristian Ledesma's chip forwards was controlled beautifully by Luciano Galletti but his shot was poor in comparison, straight at the feet of Vander, although the Bremen keeper deserves credit for the way he spread himself.
The home side broke the deadlock shortly after the half-hour mark with a scrappy goal.
Dusko Tosic slipped as he attempted to cross from the left only for the ball to sit up nicely for Daniel Jensen. The Denmark international flicked it to the far post where Almeida controlled well before stabbing it into the net.
Olympiacos almost conceded a second three minutes before the break, Rosenberg's powerful header from Diego's left-wing free-kick bringing out a brilliant save from Nikopolidis.
Bremen started the second half in the ascendancy as well and Almeida should have done better than fire a weak shot straight at Nikopolidis seven minutes after the restart.
After that early effort, Bremen then went into their shells, seemingly content to sit on their one-goal advantage.
Olympiacos seized on their opportunity, Galletti coming close with a 30-yard drive which Vander saved superbly while only the offside flag denied Lua Lua after he followed up Stoltidis' 20-yard drive and tapped into the net.
Soltidis did grab an equaliser with 18 minutes to go, however.
His mazy run and shot was partially blocked by the Bremen defence but the ball fell nicely for substitute Darko Kovacevic, whose first touch was a powerful drive which was well blocked by Vander. The rebound dropped at the feet of Soltidis and he made no mistake.
Nikopolidis saved brilliantly to deny Per Mertesacker from close range and keep his side level before Olympiacos went up the other end and snatched a second.
Petri Pasanen blocked Lua Lua's goalbound header but the resultant corner was only partially cleared and Patsatzoglou lashed in a magnificent 25-yard drive which flew in via a slight deflection of Mertesacker and the underside of the bar.
Bremen heads dropped and the visitors added a third late on.

Si Luca Toni pulak, memang real poacher & real finisher. Main punyalah

Toni double as Bayern beat Nuremberg to increase lead - Summary
Hamburg - Italy striker Luca Toni scored twice as Bayern Munich defeated Bavarian rivals Nuremberg 3-0 Sunday to open a five-point lead at the top of the German Bundesliga. Toni scored in each half to take his tally for the season to eight while Brazil midfielder Ze Roberto also struck in the first half to give unbeaten Bayern their seventh victory in nine games.
Bayern lead the table on 23 points, with promoted SC Karlsruhe - 2- 0 winners at Schalke 04 on Saturday - second on 18, a point ahead of Werder Bremen and SV Hamburg.
The defeat keeps Nuremberg in trouble on just six points, two ahead of bottom club Energie Cottbus.
Toni opened the scoring in the 31st minute when he mopped up from close range after goalkeeper Jaromir Blazeck failed to deal with a Hamit Altintop free-kick.
Ze Roberto increased the lead five minutes before the interval after a pass from Bastian Schweinsteiger, and provided the cross for Toni to head his second nine minutes from time.
"That's what you call class, because he is like a gazelle always in the right place," said coach Ottmar Hitzfeld of his striker.
Hitzfeld was also pleased with the manner of victory against a side which like Bayern had enjoyed UEFA Cup success during the week.
"Nuremberg are the sort of team you have to beat. You cannot afford to slip up," he said.
"If you win games like this you can become champions. We were in charge of our opponents from the first minute."
In the day's other game Eintracht Frankfurt defeated Bayer Leverkusen 2-1 thanks to two headed goals from Greek defender Sotirios Kyrgiakos.
The win puts Frankfurt seventh on 15 points, a point ahead of eighth-placed Leverkusen. |
