Sophie Wessex enjoys a day at the races but her horse comes in third at Newmarket

The countess - who is a keen rider - was spotted amongst the array of racing experts for the first race of the day at Newmarket earlier this afternoon, and even had a horse running.

Unfortunately for the royal though, her horse, Zilber, failed to make the grade and finished third place.

However, Sophie managed to keep up her good spirits despite the disappointing result and was pictured having a chat with co-owner, the Countess of Derby, an Zilber's jockey Adam Kirby.

ROYAL couple Prince Edward and the Countess of Wessex were given a musical welcome on their latest visit to Bristol.

The Earl of Wessex and his wife Sophie have been regular visitors to the South West in recent months and their arrival in Bristol took place against a musical setting.

A school choir welcomed the couple as they arrived at one of the city's most prestigious and best-loved music venues.

Sophie, who wore a chic pale pink coat and matching trousers for the engagement, was left blushing as she repaired the table's barriers she knocked out of place during the fast-paced game. The 49-year-old clasped her hand over her mouth when she realised she'd hit the green barricade, laughing uproariously with the college's patron Paralympian Ben Rushgrove who had been explaining the game's rules.
