Govinda, Juhi, Crowned The Badshahs Of Comedy Email this article

The grand finale of the Star Gold Comedy Honors 2007 was held at Mehboob Studios on April 29. A tribute to comic excellence in Indian cinema Star Gold felicitated some of the finest talent from Bollywood.
Govinda was adjudged the Leading Actor with Comic Excellence. The Performer with Comic Excellence Award went to Rajpal Yadav. Tusshar Kapoor was given the award for the Rising Actor with Comic Excellence. Juhi Chawla was honoured with the Special Recognition in Comic Excellence. The Director with Comic Excellence and Lifetime Achievement in Comic Excellence was given to director David Dhawan and Jagdeep respectively. The Hrishikesh Mukherjee award for a Socially Relevant Comedy Cinema was awarded to the Sanjay Dutt starrer 'Lage Raho Munnabhai'.
Shreyas Talpade hosted the show along with the witty and vivacious comedy queen Purbi Joshi, who kick started the event with an electrifying performance on the Comedy Honors Anthem. In addition, the guests were treated to a performance by the inimitable Govinda choreographed by Ganesh Acharya, hilarious acts by Rimi Sen along with duo Ranvir Shorey and Vinay Pathak, standup act by the indispensable Sajid Khan who had the audience in splits, and a scintillating performance by Neha Dhupia and Shabbir Ahluwalia

Perfect Birthday Gift for Shankar Mahadevan!

Shankar Mahadevan is a fabulous singer and 1/3 rd of a terrific trio is what we all know.
But did you know that he is also part of a fabulous 30 year old band called Shakti that boasts the likes of Zakir Hussain and famed guitarist John McLKaughlin?.....well it was thanks to this association that Shankar Mahadevan received for his birthday a most perfect gift this year!
His friend and lead guitarist John McLaughlin gifted him a song called 'The voice' and flew to Mumbai to be with him on the special day!
"I knew his birthday was approaching and thought of the song. I write for people I admire and love and Shankar is one of them. To me Shankar is the voice. I was talking to Zakir Hussain about my desire to get a vocalist for Shakti. He suggested Shankar who sent me a CD and three minutes after listening to it, I called him." smiles John.
The duo have been a part of the fusion group for a long time and performed more than 150 shows all over the world.
For Shankar it's one of the biggest honors. "He flew down especially for my birthday. There are certain people, the minute you meet them, you know they are great and John is one of them," he says.

Viveik's Double Bill confirmed

It is happening for sure now.
After a hiatus, Viveik Oberoi would be seeing not one but two of his films releasing soon. This is not all as the two would literally be coming on back to back weeks.
The good part though for Viveik is the fact that his films, SHOOT OUT AT LOKAHNDWALA and FOOL F FINAL, belong to diverse genres and hence won't really be eating into each other's business. While SHOOT OUT AT LOKAHNDWALA is a realistic action thriller, FOOL N FINAL is a pure fantasy/comedy/action show that is characteristic of a Firoz Nadiadwala film.
In each of the films, Viveik has an interesting character to portray. While in SHOOT OUT AT LOKAHNDWALA he plays a gangster by the name of Maya Dolas who is the master mind behind all the extortions in the city of Mumbai, in FOOL N FINAL he works along with Sunny Deol in a chase behind multi-crore worth diamonds.
SHOOT OUT AT LOKAHNDWALA arrives at theaters on May 25th while a week later i.e. June 01 it is time for FOOL N FINAL to finally arrive. |

Manoj Bajpai's SWAMI - Another remarkable performance after 1971?

1971 may have released at theaters and gone but it is busy making quite an impact on DVD circuits. So much so that after watching the film, one forgets that one of the lead protagonists, Manoj Bajpai, was ever recognized mainly as Bhiku Mhatre, the character which immortalized him forever.
As a Prisoner of War, he came up with a remarkably restrained act in 1971 with his performance getting noticed by audience both within and outside the industry. Natural to the core with just the right drama in place, there wasn't any jingoism in this film which only helped the characters stay away from being conventionally cardboard as has been the case of number of films belonging to this genre.
Now Manoj Bajpai has yet another film coming up for release that is titled SWAMI. A film that was made very recently and completed in a jiffy, it stars Bajpai along with Juhi Chawla, an unlikely combination indeed.
With both Manoj Bajpai and Juhi Chawla being overtly selective when it comes to signing films, one has high expectations of yet another remarkable performance by the two as the come together on screen.
Since the script is of paramount importance fr both the actors at this stage of the career with banner and rest of the star cast coming into picture later, one tends to believe that there would be something highly exciting about SWAMI that would have made the two sign it on in spite of most of the crew being new to the job.
Said to be social film set in a small town/village, it is being projected as a sensitive film which would be quite close to the life with simplicity being the key. Surprisingly, the director at the helm is none other than Ganesh Acharya, the man who has made many actors dance to his 'jhatka-matka' tunes over the years, most famously being Govinda. |

We can't forget how the gorgeous green-eyed beauty Aishwarya Rai pledged to donate her eyes a couple of years ago.
Now actress Bhairavi Goswami (the sultry 'Bheja Fry' girl) seems to be following Ash's footsteps. The damsel has pledged donation of her eyes for the same organization called 'Aditya Jyot Foundation for Twinkling Little Eyes' (a name suggested by the president of India Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam).
The trust is working for spreading awareness on eye donation and encourages people to pledge their eyes to give vision to the blind. |

It's going to be a unique experience for sure when 60 something Amitabh Bachchan gets into a cute-n-lovely romance with 30 something Tabu in upcoming CHEENI KUM.
After it's promo being premiered first during the screening of January released SALAAM E ISHQ, CHEENI KUM now sees it's promotion building up on the small screen too.
Ready since last year, the film was earlier slated to arrive in March but was postponed when NISHABD decided to come in first. Looking at spacing out the two releases, both of which had Amitabh Bachchan as a lead man in love, producer Sunil Manchanda opted for a date in May when CHEENI KUM would eventually arrive.
As per the latest film schedule, CHEEMI KUM would be coming on May 25th, the same day when Sanjay Gupta produced, Apoorva Lakhia directed SHOOT OUT AT LOKHANDWALA arrives. The interesting part is that even SOAL stars Big B though the film has 12 other key protagonists making one term SHOOT OUT AT LOKHANDWALA as SOAL-13! |

SAB TV Announces Two New Shows

SAB TV announced the launch of two new shows 'Lovestory' and '4' to be directed by filmmaker Anurag Basu who makes a comeback to television with these shows. The channel also announced the comeback of shows like 'Left Right Left', 'MMW', 'Yes Boss' and 'FIR' which have been superhit on television. Celebrities like Punneet Issar, Rupa Ganguly and director Anurag basu were present at the annoncement party.

Close on the heels of 'Big Brother' and Richard Gere, Shilpa Shetty has emerged the most 'searched' person in the universe.
According to a popular search engine database, Shilpa leads in the search of her name the world over, preceding names like Angelina Jolie, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Beyonce Knowles, Brad Pitt, Britney Spears, Carmen Electra, Drew Barrymore, Eva Longoria, Halle Berry, Harry Potter, Hilary Duff, Jennifer Aniston, Jennifer Lopez, Lindsay Lohan, Pamela Anderson, Paris Hilton and Tobey Maguire.

Ashima Bhalla replaces Shahrukh Khan

Young starlet Ashima Bhalla has created history of sorts.
She has just replaced Shahrukh Khan on the small screen with her debut television show all set to be telecast in the same slot as KAUN BANEGA CROREPATI.
The show is called MERI AWWAZ KO MIL GAYI ROSHNI where Ashima Bhalla plays the central protagonist. This daily soap is a musical saga produced by Fox Television Studio and is Fox Television抯 first production in India.
Though Ashima has appeared as a lead actress in films like PYAAR ZINDAGI HAI and ZINDA DIL along with a cameo in NA TUM JANO NA HUM, she is known most for her item song 'Nazar Nazar' alongside Sanjay Dutt in Mahesh Manjrekar's HATHYAR, sequel to VAASTAV.

The function was organised by Make-A-Wish Foundation of India in association with The Walt Disney Company India Ltd. Childrens from the foundation performed on some bollywood numbers and a privileged girl child presented Sanjay Dutt with memorabilia award as Munnabhai hugged her
The highlight of the event was the very adorable Disney's Genie from the Aladdin story, who made a special appearance for the first time in India to cheer the wish kids.

4 months prior to release BHOOL BHULLAIYA creates a storm

A solitary publicity still of BHOOL BHULLAIYA has been released and within a matter of hours, the film has turned out to be the talking point of the B-town.
Directed by Priyadarshan, the film is being readied for release as late as end of August but the promotion of the film has seen a great kick start with a highly exciting publicity still being out.
The poster of the film features the lead protagonist Akshay Kumar as the only man on the frame. So what's so special in that? Well, he sports black shades and rugged-terrain-shoes; all of this while wearing an all-over saffron robe bearing the print of OM NAMAH SHIVAY. A small painting of a dancer-girl in the background adds on to the mystery while she is wearing a traditional Indian outfit.
Making the audience ask for more with a mysterious poster like this, this T-Series film is a remake of Rajnikanth starrer all time blockbuster CHANDRAMUKHI which released a few seasons back and created history all over.
A story which is a mix of myth, reincarnation, magic, suspense and thrills, all set in contemporary times; BHOOL BHULLAIYA stars Shiney Ahuja as the second leading man along with Vidya Balan, Amisha Patel, Paresh Rawal and Rajpal Yadav.

Mallika's price for AKS - 15 lakhs per minute!

Mallika Sherawat's coffer has got phenomenally fat ever since she gave her a nod to play a part in Himesh Reshammiya's debut film as a leading man - 'Aap Kaa Surroor'.
Apparently she has charged, hold your breath, as much as Rs. 1.5 crore for acting in the film.
Well, this is not all because as per sources, she has only 10 minutes presence in the film. All of this means that her asking price for the film is as steep as Rs. 15 lakhs for every minute she appears in the film. Whew!
Unbelievable as it may sound but our source confirms that this is indeed true. Also, though it may be unbelievable but it is certainly not surprising for majority of insiders. Readers may remember that for her few minutes appearance in an event hosted by a 5 star hotel on New Years eve, she had charged a whopping amount that had raised many a eyebrows!
Mallika's popularity has only soared up post the release and success of 'Pyaar Ke Side Effects' & 'Guru' while her subsequent signing of 'Dasavatharam', a project where she features as a CIA agent opposite Kamal Hassan, has only added as another feather on her cap.
Since she has become overtly selective off late and is only green lighting projects that excite her in a big way, 'Aap Kaa Surroor' seems to be THE big project with which she has associated herself, both for the benefit of financial gains as well as those that come due to the fact that she is now one of the most talked about female actress ever since her association with the film was revealed.

Pantene-Whisper Khud Par Karo Yakeen - India's First-ever News Anchor Hunt Reality Show crowned three lucky winners -- Mega Winner Ishleen Kaur from Chandigarh, Whisper Confidence Award Winner Zehra Rehmani from Mumbai, and Pantene Shine Award Winner Snehil Dixit from Bhopal.
The jury had a tough time judging the final two contestants Amanpreet Kaur Jhaj and Ishleen Kaur. For her fans, FOOL N FINAL is a much awaited film, especially after DOR and KYA LOVE STORY HAI where she played serious roles. This makes FOOL N FINAL special since Ayesha has let her hair down (literally) and sung, jumped and danced along to some funky rhythm on the foreign locales.
