Watches in F1
March 16, 2010 by joesaward
The Bahrain GP marked a couple of announcements about watch companies becoming involved in F1 – or increasing their involvement in the sport. The Dutch watchmaker TW Steel, which specialises in oversized watches, is sponsoring Renault F1 this year and used the Bahrain event to announce that it has signed up Emerson Fittipaldi, is to become one of its Global Brand Ambassadors, alongside Virgin driver Lucas di Grassi. The company will produce a special TW Steel Emerson Fittipaldi watch – the design of which will feature direct input by Emerson himself.
Swiss watchmaker Hublot, part of the Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessey group, has also been announced as the Official Watchmaker of Formula 1, as part of a multi-year deal that will see the company
producing a range of high technology limited editions F1-branded watches. Hublot’s first F1 watch will retail at $23,000. The “F1 King” model incorporates the F1 logo in white gold.
The watches will be available in a boutique which will be located inside the F1 Paddock at each race. |
